  • I am so macho I must upgrade my suspension! Part Two of a day at odges Village Dam is a back-to-back comparison of a 2020 250 XC-W Tpi and a XTrainer with Lucky fork insert and AMP valving in the fork and stock shock. Also many jokes -- some we make on purpose!

    The stock forks on the Xtrainer are flat out dangerous in rocks. On mine I’d hit a rock, it would dive and then shoot me off in a random direction. I went with the Beta 48mm conversion and that helped a lot.

    • @eddielawsonjr.8705
      @eddielawsonjr.8705  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was about to pull the trigger on the 48mm setup! I read some posts on the BetaRiders forum and figured I could do the Lucky insert and AMP custom damping in one step without having to replace triple clamps. I took a chance . . .

      @@sampep If you have the 48MM, you should talk to the guy at AMP. He will have something worthwhile to say (revalve 48MM or . . . do something else). I found it helpful to hear his opinions and reasoning. Made me more confident that I was making an educated choice and dealing with someone who had relevant experience and good judgment.

    Great video thanks for sharing. Saying the 250 TPI has one of the best suspensions is funny, I had a 250 TPI too and like on all my (about 8) former KTM's (450's, 350's, 300's, 250's) the suspension is simply average. But it was great once I had invested thousand bucks. And I have a XTrainer (2022) too, its suspension is better than from the earlier models and its engine is slightly stronger and smoother too. Like you I will go for a suspension upgrade for the parts with a bit higher speed, real high speed will probably need a complete front fork but I am a slower rider anyway. Thanks again, was fun to watch!

      @eddielawsonjr.8705  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did I say it was one of the best? It is, now that I think of it, although it was redone by Factory Connection! I have stock stuff on the 300 XC-W and it’s good. Not great, but definitely very good for stock stuff.

    It does have a power valve if you’re looking to increase performance of your engine power valve is on the left side of your engine pull the spacer out replace exhaust pipe from a 300 RR or buy an FMF for a 300 RR

    • @eddielawsonjr.8705
      @eddielawsonjr.8705  ปีที่แล้ว

      Lazy description on my part. In fact, the XTrainer uses the 300 RR motor and includes a power valve. Significantly, though, the volume of the power valve system on the XTrainer is much, much larger than on the 300 RR. A spacer is inserted to achieve this. The result is that the XTrainer has no real power spike or hit like the RR. Also worth knowing: you can take out the spacer and have a power valve setup identical to that on the 300 RR. Which I did and thought was a good modification. It was very inexpensive, too. Just a new gasket and four bolts, if I recall correctly.

    Fast flowing trails like you ride there the xtrainer is definitely not the best choice but if you put the xtrainer on a black diamond mountain trail climb than it is! Buy a tpi and when you come across that gnarly mountain trail take the beta. Enjoyed your vid it is well said with good insight! On my xtrainer I resprung the front and rear for my weight with gear as stock springs are way too soft. I then had the beta up grade dampener put in the fork. Suspension works much better on the fast bumps yet still has the nice plush suspension for tech stuff

    • @eddielawsonjr.8705
      @eddielawsonjr.8705  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agreed - although the new suspension makes a big difference, the XTrainer is not as good for big speed. I could tell that easily when going back to back with the 250 TPi.

    • @eddielawsonjr.8705
      @eddielawsonjr.8705  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Correct - I was wrong. The chamber for the power valve has a large spacer that increases volume and reduces pressure - effectively eliminating the power valve effect. But you ran remove the spacer, and it’s got the power valve of the 300 RR. add a 300RR pipe, and you have serious power.

    How does the rear shocker hold up now the front handles well. I have come off pretty hard on my x trainer , when i was hitting 3rd gear in a big ditch. I would love to do the same on my front suspension. Also i think you can get a power valve upgrade from beta now. Cheers .

    • @eddielawsonjr.8705
      @eddielawsonjr.8705  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The revalve on the shock is a good match for the front -- we are waiting for a break in the weather to test the combo for real. Like you, I have seen the dark side of the XTrainer, and I need some time before I go "full send" even with the new suspension! I have investigated the power valve option, including taking off the spacer to make the power valve chamber the same size as the 300RR (who knew?!). I have also heard that adding a Gnarly pipe makes a huge difference all by itself. Hmmm. Tempting.

    • @kanethomas773
      @kanethomas773 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will be going the Gnarly pipe at some stage and the spacer aswell as shaving the head. But not untill the suspension is sorted.
