That's a nice jig man. I worked for a service station for 4yrs rebuilding control surfaces. I don't see very many people who know how to do this. A dying breed.
Now that's a major repair... I hope you have an IA in your pocket..LOL.. Looks like you are a very skilled craftsman with sheet metal. I'm enjoying watching you working on this wing.
NAS 1242AD4-xx oversize diameter hole #27 and AD5-xx hole #16 solid o.s. Replacement for MS 20470AD Wonderful rivets to get that original look and get rid of rattling cherry rivets. I always have some long ones that I cut down to size. God bless.
It's also amazing how *little* a 172 or 182 costs compared to the parts. Try building a Skyhawk from parts purchased from Cessna ... it will be well into the millions.
Well, Now there is an Aviation mechanic shortage, so pay will rise if you still want to do it. I want to become a pilot but also want to get my A&P sometime. As a hobby.
Very little distance between the fuselage and the Butt rib, just a few inches. Just enough room to get the bolts in the brackets which hold the wings on.
In this plane what bears the lifting compression- the spars, upper skin, or upper longerons/skin? (I'm not an engineer, just a former frequent flyer who wondered a lot why the wings didn't break flying!) Thanks
The wing is a stressed skin design so all the parts share the loading. The stringers and the spar carry most of the compression while the resulting shear is taken up by the wing skin. If you take one part away, the wing cannot take up the load.
I have a wing i need to repair and would like to see if you offer any kind of support for hire for this? i would pay you to come to our facility and do some OJT with us.

It's amazing how much a 172 or 182 costs compared to the materials. Thanks for the video.

Cool vid! My future job looks fun. Im in high school studying to become an AMT. i built an aileron as part of the sheet metal class.

I think sheet metal work on planes is real fun as long as pro-seal or Flame-Master ain't involved... Thanks for posting.Regards from Alaska!
OK oil caning what is it an properer fit or surface cut???How do you repair it.A new skin has to be cut and drilled??
How can the ribs be damaged, but not the skin?
Could be an inside job.
what is the distance between the fuselage and first rib? and between 2 consecutive ribs?
Very little distance between the fuselage and the Butt rib, just a few inches. Just enough room to get the bolts in the brackets which hold the wings on.
Next rib is 16" from there on out to the wing-tip they vary between 14" and 18"
Kinda hard to answer that without more details... pics???
