In George Orwell’s book 1984, there are multiple signs to remind residents that “Big Brother is Watching You”. One of the concerns when implementing certain Smart Factory solutions is that workers on the shop floor can feel this same type of oppressive feeling of always being watched. This is particularly true for solutions such as video analytics where the process is literally being filmed 24/7. This can be a big hurdle to getting adoption of these systems out on the shop floor and can significantly reduce the impact of the solutions.
