Cheese Calves 9-25-24

First encounter with a dog for this set of calves. Using a green dog to get your livestock broke to work. This would be one of the first steps, teaching the calves to respect the dog and to move away when the dog approaches. If you dog is unsure or unwilling to face the heads, you can use your long line to put him in the right place, then use your presence to walk up and help the dog move the calves. This will build confidence and make your dog successful. Work to their strengths, but when they do have to face something they are unsure of, be there to back your dog up. That will build confidence in the task.
The same concepts apply for a dog who is farther along and has good flank commands and stop commands. Use what your dog knows to put him where he needs to be and to get your calves moving, then you can start taking them somewhere with purpose and settling them.
