Sika Hunting | Southern Kaimanawas | Waipakihi River | June 2015

A 4 day hunt in and around the Waipakihi Valley.
Headed in over the Umukarikari, spent a night at the hut, then a couple more nights up on the Te Hiwiokaituri Ridge.
Ended up doing more walking than hunting but managed to get onto some reds and sika.

Done a lot of hunting in the lower Waipuk valley, such a lovely place to be, really should try to get back in there at some point.

Thanks for sharing that Nik. I've spent about 20 years wandering around in there - mainly up the Te Hiwiokaituri area. There's an old blaze trail of mine down the ridge that the hind and yearling were standing on. We call it Long Ridge as it just goes on and on when you're walking it. Last time I went up there, there was bit of blow down over the track that I must get back and clear one day. Awesome work.
