BBC Radio 4 extra used to make these available in archive form, but now that system has been lost. So, I am glad that these are available. This one is a high-quality copy. Many of the stories in this series are excellent. Some particularly memorable ones are 'St Austin Friars', 'Vicious Fish (with John Hollis), 'By the River Fontainbleau', 'The Horn' and the very scary 'Hellhound on My Trail'.

Excellent presentation! Splendid writer and exceptional acting! It takes my mind to each scenario and I can see everything so clearly and feel every emotion! The best thing to do on a cloudy, blustery day is to relax in front of the fire, listening to these classic broadcasts!

If the hand had belonged to an old fish monger they could have entitled the story "The beast with fish fingers" 😂😂
Hugo Malice excuse me there's a plaice for jokes like that and u shud be battered for those fish jokes but at least there were no red herrings in the play!!! Sorry I cudnt resist the fish jokes!!

This was creepy.
If the overwrought, lipsmacking hyperventilator had burped his lines, he couldn't have made this more unlistenable.
Plays from this era were not designed for listening through headphones/phone earplugs as nobody then did.
I had to give up. I couldn't stand the constant panting and puffing.
