Whenever anyone asks the old "If you were stranded on an island and could only have 10 movies with you which would they be?" This one is always on my Top Ten list. Just watching this video makes me want to cry.
I was back packing in Australia in 97, went to a theater in South Yarra/Melbourne with my good friend Søren and saw this movie. We was 20 years old and still so clear remember afterwards How we was crying at torrack road afterwards. absolutely my favorite movie, Kirsten Scott Thomas, Juiliette Binoche and Rolf Fiennes - You were absolutely amazing.
I saw this film for the first time in 1998, when I was 20. It made such a big impact on me then and it still does. I don't know how many times I've seen it through the years, but it's not few.
... man-sobbing-movie, there is something about the scene when he carries his dead woman out of the cave after returning that cuts into the male heart, this is one of the few movies that make MEN weep.
As all said : i luv thi movie as well . This movies was introduced to me by my AMIE.I dont like typical teenager luv stories as well but this one is very touching . He put his soul in this movie while actin :)
my favourite music from my favourite movie "THE ENGLISH PATIENT " winner of 9 academy awards, truely a remarkable love story in north african deserts ,miss not to see, starring RALPH FIENNES & KRISTEN SCOTT THOMAS,
Questo film è un capolavoro assoluto. Pochi films riescono ad emozionare e coinvolgere emotivamente. Due grandissimi attori, Ralph Fiennes e Jiuliette Binoche.
@GogolBordelloLover you wont believe, but this is exactly the way i think everytime i watch this movie, and the way i look at Ralph Fiennes....remarkable acting!!!
I just finished the book which I thought was beautiful. The technical problems of my computer prevented me from enjoying the film clips, sound faded in and out. I usually like books better than movies made from them. I really loved the book.
+Virginia. Handy the movie omits the scene in the house where main hero is naked and looking for top secretdocuments . it also omits the introduction to why local population tried to save the life of hero, and also the (medically sound way) how to cure 3d degree flash and skin burns. But both book and movie are deception , it is proven that Almasy was engaged in gathering info for Wehrmacht . Which was quite normal at the time. After all, he was a nobleman and his tradition of his family was to protect his country , right.
@ musixxx66 Well, there is the recent movie, "The Atonement" it is just as beautiful as "The English Patient" I don't know if you've seen. If not, I highly recommend you should.
@jjzanoni And religion, out of superiority, caused a spell on love, for it's only when there's a true harmony between hart, soul and spirit within oneself, one can really love. Start reading Rumi.
I love this movie. I just do not like that is not a true story. Almasy never get merried in his real life and others said that he was in love with his friend (Hans Entholt) who died in the war. I wish this movie would be ture!!! Powefull LOVE!!!!
Love is like an hour glass, as the heart fills, the mind empties. But we love anyway, for what else is there?
Everything about this film is absolutely perfect. I can live happy knowing that I have seen this film in my lifetime......

Everytime he walks out with Katherine dead in his arms i weep. By the way...im a 24 year old, that kind of *beep* doesn't happen too often.

this is lovely, thank you!
Owesome
This sequence plays out my worst fear. It actually makes it hard for me to get close with a woman.
