- In Yellowstone, his will show the typical kind of bear encounter that I have. A grizzly unaware of my presence and what I do in order to safely get a video of the bear. This is along the Yellowstone National Park boundary on June 17, 2024.
Beautiful videography! Thanks Stan for sharing so much with us.
I just returned from Yellowstone. I was watching 2 herds of elk in Hayden Valley when I saw one herd, closest to the road, start running. First thought was wolves chasing them. Then the second herd, further up the hill started running too. I was excited to see what I thought would be a wolf chase. But to my surprise, it was just 4 "turons" chasing them. I left the city to get away from idiots but they are everywhere. Love your videos, stay safe.
the tourist are a blessing, they put a ton of money into the Parks system and wouldn't even think of stepping into the Back Country. I have hiked 1000 miles in YP and never saw a tourist. What a beautiful wilderness it is.
I hope you reported them to the nearest Ranger. They want to know about it. Disturbing wildlife in Yellowstone is illegal. Animals have a hard enough time surviving without idiots adding unnecessary stress to their lives.
I love your videos. Glad all went well . Beautiful grizzlies n elk . Thank you for sharing
I have visited Yellowstone a lot over the past few decades, but always in the frontcountry. About a week after this video was posted, I have a backcountry permit on Shoshone Lake, just West of the new Heart Lake Bear Management Area. I have been concerned about bears, but I recently found your channel. I feel so much better about the whole bear experience now and how I will react. Thanks so much for your videos.
Thank you for your comments. Here is a video you may like about Heart Lake.th-cam.com/video/zGWZ_OzMjgI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=2obgg5Eju0fPLWYi
Looks like bear has a broken leg...
You have the most amazing videos of nature! What a beautiful place! Hope to visit one day!😄
I always enjoy your videos Stan. Beautiful, raw nature at its best. Thank You! Stay safe!
I learned this morning my Niece died in her sleep. Your videos bring such peace to my aching heart.
Nature is soothing ❤
Sending healing thoughts to you Colleen.
As a viewer I appreciate you taking the risks you do Stan. Thanks
Always amazing Stan
Great hike thanks Stan.
Really cool footage 👍🏻👍🏻
Love your channel
Thank you for this(altho now i feel sad for the injured grizzly will be a tough road ahead for him/her)...cant wait for the next video...be safe❤
Was there by Gibbons and Beryl Springs 3 weeks ago and saw couple Grizzlies up on the hills . Nice coverage of this Stan, be safe. 👍
Yes, an older bear maybe and favors one rear leg and front right. Like a car hit. Shoulder looks a bit wrong on the right. But this bear seems to be doing well and is strong regardless.
Yep, injured bear is even more dangerous. Skeedaddle outta' there.
You are courageous Stan. Poor bear, I hope he doesn't have any broken bones. I love to hike but am very paranoid about coming face-to-face with a bear. I grew up visiting Yellowstone, Glacier, and Waterton Lakes National Parks every year. My Canadian relatives have a lot of great stories of their encounters, but if I see a bear I want to be able to jump into my car, cabin, or anywhere safe from the bear. :) Thank you for your videos. I love them!
Me too, and even in a public camping ground on the foothills & outskirts of mountains . You maybe only a few miles up a canyon, and still
Encounter a bear.
Knowing the range helps, but no guarantee.
I’ve had my share of escape from the bear episodes.
In my life and I’ll never go back into the mountains without spray and someone who carries.
It’s too dangerous anymore.
Even experienced outdoors people,
Must always be diligent!
Great video ❤
You got us a little close that time, Stan. I'm glad I had an ultra-experienced guide to get us back home. Thank you!
The best bear defense? Situational awareness.
Absolutely!!
Thanks Stan!
The bear is hurt But he's beautiful
Thanks for another great video Stan. I’ll be joining you out there in a few days…
He/she looks injured 😢
Nice video!
Bear has a bit of a limp.
Bring some beef jerky along. When he gets close throw it his direction and run😊
Oreo cookies work better.
@@StanMills 😂
I would guess at 4:23 of your video that the grizzly bear was well aware of your presence. I believe he did not care at that point. As you know sometimes the bear will not acknowledge our presence by staring or reacting in the way we think they should. I could be wrong. Just led a group on the eastern boundary of Yellowstone over Hoodoo Peak. The grizzly bear sign was everywhere. We had one come into camp and then leave right away. We were a very large group, total of 18.
@@ronrash5895 I went to your channel to see if you published a video of the Yellowstone trip. Let me know if you do. Would like to watch it. Thanks
That bear has an injured left rear leg. It hops in the back end while running and limps when walking.
Your videos are great for learning about Yellowstone wildlife., I’ll be in GTNP/ YSNP last two weeks of July and early August- solo day hiker that plans on car camping quite a bit. As a solo and experienced hiker, what weapons/ deterrents do you carry? Is it safe to pack snacks ( trail mix, sandwich) in your daypack when hiking? I’d think the bears would smell it right away! Any tips, links or advice would be greatly appreciated. Brian
I don't give advice but I do show what I do. I carry 2 cans of bear spray. And I always carry snacks and a sandwich or some main item to eat. You will have a great time I am sure. Thank you for your comments.
@@StanMills Thanks, I’m sure each hike and encounter with wildlife takes a slightly different approach. I’ve heard carrying two bear sprays is wise. Glad its safe to carry our own snacks! I’m extremely excited! Booked some nights at Jenny Lake CG, Signal Mtn CG in GTNP and trying to get into Slough Creek CG first few days in August. So much to explore, even outside of the parks. Kudos to you , the content and information.
@@briantodd4887 There are only 3 campsites at Slough Creek that open 14 days in advance. You'd be lucky if you were able snag one. All others are reserved well in advance and been snagged almost immediately at the start of campground's opening. With Pebble Creek and Tower Junction campgrounds closed for the season, it makes Slough Creek almost impossible to snag. My recommendation is to reserve a campsite now if you want to camp in YNP. You can cancel if you got lucky with Slough Creek. Getting a campsite is not what it was just a few years ago. I used to be able to drive up to Slough Creek campground (or any campground in the park) early (very early!) and wait until a campsite would free-up that day as campers vacated a site. Then, I'd have 14 days to camp there if I so desired. It was on a "first come-first served" basis.
@@stokebailey Hello and thank you for that information- I’ll take a look and see what else is available and check back 14 days in advance to see if I can get a spot. Do you have any other recommendations that could be on the outskirts of the park? Maybe dispersed sites. I don’t need much space - just driving a Subaru Outback. Many thanks!
🐻🦌🤛👍🙏😎🦅🇺🇸
The bear is limping at the right front leg? Or a leg behind?
Hi Stan: you know how much I enjoy your videos but please be careful!! Very smart staying away from that one. Last thing you wanted to do was make a wounded bear feel threatened. I really hope his wound wasn’t caused by some idiot taking a “pot shot” at him. Probably not but you never know in this day and age.
Hi Stan. Just subscribed to your channel. Being from Montana I’ve had several encounters with grizzlies. Luckily they turned out the same way yours has. My only unnerving scary encounter I’ve ever had was with a mountain lion. Have you ever had an encounter with a mountain lion?
Wow that is interesting that you must have had some kind of close encounter with a mountain lion. I have never been close to a live one my entire life. I never even see them.
@@StanMills…..my grandfather always told me that if a mountain lion is going to attack you you’ll never see it. If you see one and it confronts you if you stand your ground it will usually back off as long as you don’t turn your back on it. Again, you have a great channel
@@thefrase7884 I think that is exactly what I would do.
Left rear leg or foot is hurt.
It’s all fun and games until someone’s entrails get eaten.
What are the large birds in the beginning?
Sandhill Cranes
At this point in the season, you seem to be encountering more bears than in the past.
Almost exactly the same according to my logs from past years. But I saw 6 bears at once with the mother and 5 cubs. So if I was to count that as one sighting then I would be less. I normally see 8 to 12 by now. But I have been busy doing other things and have not been hiking as much lately. During the month of June I will almost always see a bear on most hikes. thanks
A commenter posts, "I feel so much better about the whole bear experience now and how I will react." So... What would you have done if the grizzly decided to charge you? How would you "react"?
Stand there, facing the bear with my bear spray ready.
@@StanMills Thanks, Stan! I'd do the same. But, please, one more question: Would you also yell at the bear in a commanding tone? speak calmly? or say nothing?
@@stokebaileycalmly. Here is a video that shows what I would do. Thanks.
@@StanMills Much appreciated! However, I think you forgot to include your video link.
That's funny. I did forget the video link. Here it is and thank you: th-cam.com/video/O7XP1AxEFac/w-d-xo.htmlsi=253vkI4wNPm6nfaW
The bear is injured in the rear, foot or leg.
Is it preferable that the bear smell you?
If I need to go around the bear I prefer it just so the bear knows I am here and won't come walking up on me. Thanks
not a good bear to be around
You are too far away from bears
Stop lying stan 😅😅😅
