    The fleshy part of my left hand under thumb pains after practicing. Although I’m gripping it exactly as right hand. Any tips?

    • @DrumApe
      @DrumApe  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If it’s the fleshy part most likely a muscle, it should be ok, but pain is not a good indication. Perhaps learn a bit how to strengthen your wrist muscles, before practicing extensively

    • @buddyrichable1
      @buddyrichable1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The pain may be from applying constant tension on the stick to control it. Sort of like when you’re driving your car in a bad snowstorm and you feel pain in your hands and wrists from gripping the steering wheel so tight because of stress.
      Normally we don’t even realize we’re doing it.
      The sticks should be loose in your hands, there should be no tension at all. You might want to check out the Spivack method of stick control as demonstrated by Chad Wackerman. There are several others, but they all emphasize a loose grip. Well worth studying as your grip is fundamental.

    • @DrumApe
      @DrumApe  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HI Kashy, really depends on how often you play. My advice is to build it slowly over time, maybe 6 -12 months at least, work on a daily routine, make sure you always stretch and warm up before you play. If you feel wrist pain, give it some rest. Work on bouncing the stick and making both hands sound equal. I've been building this technique for years so be patient. Look for consistency and endurance. Let me know how it works out.

      @@DrumApe , merci, je comprends très bien. De mon côté, j'essaie de travailler plusieurs exercices avec environ 5 jours par semaine et une session de deux heures par semaine sur ma batterie. Je sais c'est peut être pas beaucoup mais c'est toujours cela de pris. Sur huit mois comme ça, j'ai bien améliorer ma technique , ma rapiditée et plus de fluidité. Merci encore pour ces informations.

  • @DoblyTufnell

    What rebound? OH, you are using a pad that has more bounce than a tight snare drum... Try that on a splash cymbal or loose floor tom.

    • @DrumApe
      @DrumApe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What's wrong with using a pad? Once you understand how rebound works, you can then translate it to all surfaces. Please, don't forget that this video is aimed at beginners and people struggling with playing the paradiddle faster, so not sure I am willing to accept your critique.

    • @DoblyTufnell
      @DoblyTufnell 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DrumApe Practicing on a pad that has more bounce than any drum you play on is not as efficient, not and hand strengthening, not endurance building as playing on a pad with little bounce. I would be more inclined to teach that to beginners.

    • @DrumApe
      @DrumApe  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@DoblyTufnell I don't agree. I've been practicing on a pad all my life and I'm doing fine. Again - this video aims to show people a way to play the paradiddle faster, by altering how they approach it. It's a good video. I like to randomize my rudiments. Like playing RR but just once in the measure. To bring it back for the right to end up on a downbeat, just go RR again. You can do that in the current measure or another.

    The best video I've seen so far on how to get fast paradiddles. I like how you progress through the rudiment stopping on the next note after next note to get the feel of not only fluidity but also when to stop in between the counts in advanced timing.

    Just dipped my toes into paradiddle waters. I had a simillar exercise planned, glad to see there was some merit to my thought process. I intend to stop the series at strike number six (just before the left diddle), and then start from the begining - but inverted. Thoughts?

    • @DrumApe
      @DrumApe  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HI RowUrBoatGently, happy to hear you found this useful. In my experience closing the measure, i.e. playing two full cycles, up to the "one" of the third measure gives the best results. Also, I made a playlist about the paradiddle, and it's four iterations, which you might also find useful. It has to do with the placement of the diddle. The reason I say this is because you mentioned "inverted" which is actually very important, as it happens very often in real life situations. Here's the playlist, let me know how it works out:

    That's a nice and detailed breakdown. Good approach. I just have a disagreement on @1:45 where you mention that you pull up the stick to prepare for the next stroke. I think that the important aspect of that stroke is to let it bounce back up as a free stroke. It isolates (and practices) wrist movement and also serves as an indicator that you're striking correctly and without tension, feeling the resonance of the stick. Thanks for the videos!

    • @DrumApe
      @DrumApe  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Fama Gusta, you make a very good point. In my mind though these tutorials are aimed at beginners who might not have a developed upstroke yet, so I decided to put an emphasis on the upstroke just in case :) Once they have that developed they can work on having the bounce itself be the source of the next hit. Thanks for watching and your observation.

    • @buddyrichable1
      @buddyrichable1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      chris little Unless you’re playing on a pillow there will be enough rebound.
      It’s probably your technique that is not allowing the stick to rebound properly. Your grip should be loose, with no tension. Practice letting the stick rebound straight up. Once you get it, it becomes easier and the stick is doing the work.

    • @chrislittle7258
      @chrislittle7258 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@buddyrichable1 wont work on none rebound surface exactly. I use push pull technic and can play on a pillow . its the best way to practice, when you go back to the drums its so easy to control.(buddy rich , billy Cobham, denis chambers, all played on a pillow) iam not saying controlling the bounce is wrong I use this as well . when you play floor tom with loose head it becomes more difficult to bounce. thanks
