hey you're doing a great job as a patient sitter. i want to work as a patient sitter. I've had 23 psych hospitalizations. and the patient sitter all played an instrumental role in assisting in my mental health recovery as i awaited my transfer to the actual psych hospital. I've had amazing conversations with patient sitters. All except one have been incredibly patient and kind to me. The last dude i talked to i think his name was darnell- he was awesome. We talked NBA and sports for 8 hours. we talked from 11 pm-7 am until i was transferred. it was an amazing convo. The other girl i spoke to for like 3 hours just in spanish. she was very kind and helpful. I want to work as a patient sitter. I've had so many inpatients i can basically teach all the stuff they discuss in the psych hospital. i really want to work in this field. i've applied for 10 psych jobs since my latest hospitalizations, which was just 10 days ago.

@KenjjiArii I have never even heard of hospital sitter before until I came across a video and it was briefly mentioned.
Some people said that they knew somehody who was a hospital sitter while she was going to school to be an R.N.
She would sometimes study while at work.
I dont know how your able to do your job as a hospital sitter if you have to constantly check the patient and write down information every 15 minjtes. I think all that writing would get annoying if its as much as what it seems if you have to write stuff down every 15 minutes.
I heard it can be both boring and stressful depending on what kind of patient your watching over.
I heard its great if you are a good conversationalist snd can offer words of wisdom and encouragement to the patient if they are depressed.
That might be hard for me since Im an introvert snd although I dont mind talking to folks. One lady said she talked tonher hospital sitter for hours. And that would be super annoying for me.
And I wonder how dangerous it is to be a hosital sitter to patinets who are trying to hurt themselves and others.
I do have experience in being a good and patient caregiver to some of my loved ones. Especially my grandmother that had a brain anerism.
I had actually mobed in with her after she had a stroke so I could watch over and observe her and then one day she her speech started getting thick and I worried she was having another stroke sonI called the ambulance right away and it turned out to be a brain anerism.
After her surgery she could not walk or talk anymore. She would have to endure many months of physical and speech therapy.
She and I moved in with my uncle and I took good care of her and bathed, turned and dressed her and cooked for her and I even bouggt a sign language book and taught her finger spelling and some hand signs so she could communicate with me what she wabted with her hand until she cluld speak again.
And she did speak and walk again. But it took many month's lf phsyical therapy.
And so I know I am capable of helping others.
But it worry if I can handle the a job kike a hospital sitter if its extremely stessful with a suicidal patient. And ehst are the chances of me getting attacked by them?
Im 36 heard old and Im no lobger a spring chicken.
I also have alot of physical back aches due to herniated discs, scoliosis, arthritis and inflammation. So I know I cannot handle a physically demanding job at all.
And I prefer to not have to bath and turn over and lift patients.
So in a way the hosital sutter job sounds better atleast on me physically.
Now I live in Alabama so I assume the pay is not as high as it is in other areas.
I dont know if it has flexible hours and can you choose early day shift or night shift and work part time?
I would prefer early in the morning like 5a.m. or 7a.m. and just work a 8 hour shift.
I am curious if there are shorter or longer shifts. I had heard of 12 hour shifts and that is out of the question. No way am I doing that.
Plus I am trying to figure our if college is even a good option for someone like myself and what would be best for me?
I struggle with math. So I dont want to habe to deal with math if I can help itamd if I do have to donany math, I just want basic math.
I do not like constantly being challenged mentally or physically. I just want things to be so easy, even a person like myself with a slight learning disability can still do.
Its not that I cannot learn. But math was where I struggled if it was above basic math.
And when Im new at learning something. I may have to shadow someone and have seversl days to get use to the areas and all the new information loaded on ny brain. I dont like stess from learning something new that is complicated snd not easy to understand.
However, I am very very good at maintaining a calm exposure and presence when other people are stressed. So I do have my strengrhes and weakness.
Now, some said that they were first a hospital sitter then moved up to a tech. What did they mean?
Im afarid there is so many more postions in the hospital I just did not know anything about.
I have heard or a steril tech.
      Was she talking of that?
Now I heard this job could at times be stressful.
I know there are a few careers in the medical field that only require a GED only.
But I dont know them all. And I most definitely dont want to do anything that means me handling things and doing things to the patient that could lead to something bad happening.
Especially if it requires you to do alot of constant math.
Im having a hard time weighing my options for both decent or high salary jobs that only require a ged or math 1 or 2 year of college or some certified program.
Being on my feet non stop always on the move not being able to sit and take a break or eat if I get really hungry or drink something. I just want a job that suits my needs and doesnt add to my physical problems and pains and provides anreally good income.
And I heard being a hospotal sitter was a good job if you planned to atill go to college and study.
How could I take my study books to.eork with me though and yet write every 15 minutes if the patient got upset or watched tv etc?
If there any other suggestions anybody might have on what career to move up from a hospital sitter?
And is there is a decent or a high salary job in the medical field that does not require you to do nath or anything nkre than basic math? And you dont have to bathe the patients or clean bed pans, or require alot of physical contact with them?
And a job that is not overly stressful that alot of people in the career get burnout out and depressed and quit?
And I worry about jobs in the medical field where you ahve to continue your education like wvery 2 years and reapply for your licence I guess. Thats basically signing on to be in school forever.
And I do not want that at all.
Ive heard some about a tech phamacist. And they probably have to continue their education some.
      I dont know the process.
I jjst dont want to waist my time going to college for somwthing I will hate.
Nor do I want to waist my time in college and go into alot of dept if I can find a great slaary job that is not stressful if at all possible, bot physically demanding. And that you can get prpmtotions and maybe later go to college to get a better position in the area you are at. I would to love to hear more about this.
But you said you were no longer a hospital sitter yet thats what it looked like you were doing?
So what exactly is your job title now.
And how is it different or better than a hospital sitter and is it considered to be a step up?

You should, patients need people like you who are passionate about helping them, especially psych patients. You seem to be empathetic and you have an idea about what a patient does, be aware of their personalities, some patients do not want to speak and it’s fine, you just tell them that you will be there to help and they can let you know if they need anything. You should also look into becoming a therapist if you like to talk to people and you listen to them. I have been a pct/sitter for 3 years and I have met and listened to so many stories, some patients really love the company.

I was suppose to have an interview for this position tomorrow but I declined. I don’t think I can do 12th just sitting and the hospital I applied is a terrible one. I don’t have time for the nurses and their bs lol I wish I could get in at a different hospital but all the others want you to have a BSL.

I can completely understand being that I have older coworkers who refuse to Sit and if they get floated to go sit they are always trying to switch with someone younger just because they cant just sit for 12 hours but also because they are older and their bones & stuff be locking up they say lol so I get that its not for everyone plus it might make the time go by very slow for some 🤷🏽‍♀️ but anywhom, I wonder whats the point of you having a BSL? It sounds like most patients are in a facility for maybe just a few days or a week? Will the same sitter stay with the same patient everyday that they are there? I'll be working 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. 3 days a week. It will be nice to have 4 days off a week but 12 hour days is very long! Maybe it's doable though.

    • @KenjjiArii
      @KenjjiArii  ปีที่แล้ว +3

It depends on the unit, mostly in the ICU our patients stay a little while longer, or at least until we can send them to the actual floor. & as for sitters, they normally dont get the same patient back because usually we would get that patient a room and send them to a department. Its unlikely to have to sit a patient in one spot all day for 24 hours plus lol but over all it is very doable. I hope that you like it. ENJOY!

And that you can get promotions and maybe later go to college to get a better position in the area you are at. I would to love to hear more about this.
And you said yoi were no longer a hospital sitter. So what exactly are you doong now and what is your job title?
And is it a natural step up some folks do who use to be a hospital sitter?

Hiiiiiiiiiiiii 😊 Hospital sitters are sooo usual here where im from. I think they have themmin almost every hospital here in Texas. Where are you from? Some hate to sit because 12 hours is a long time and some love it because they’re able to get other things done (study etc) while being able to work.

And yea you’re right I can agree that sometimes it can also be dangerous because they dont really teach you nor train you how to be a “patient sitter” they just throw you in there and be like “ok this is the patient, this is their problem and you have to watch them” but every patient isn’t the same so some really could be harmful or combative or something like that and they dont teach us what to do in those situations especially when we are the ones in the room ALONE with the patient 🥴

I just read again and seen youre in Alabama. I think you would be fine if you would like to try it out and see if you like it. You could always do something else if you don’t remember that. Its not a lot of strain on your body like turning and flipping patients (being that you are older) but also sitting or standing in one room all shift might be equivalent in another way so im not sure 🫤

Hey boo, now I dont fullllyyyyy have the answer to your question but I have seen a few people that do that and they are basically hired from within or through a different staffing agency like ShiftKey, Blueforce or simply by searching Indeed for families who are looking. Not sure if this helped much but I hope it did 🫶🏽 @teeyonaechols3934

Hey, I just was wondering what's the pay range for a sitter position in your area?

    • @KenjjiArii
      @KenjjiArii  ปีที่แล้ว +6

Here in Texas I believe Patient Sitters specifically hospital based with no experience are paid starting at $15. Nothing less I believe.
Now it might be different outside of hospitals and ER's.
