A showcase of all the finishing moves ( Zetsumei Ougi, meaning Near-Death Secret - also know as the Overkill Move) in this classic SNK beat em up, playing on MAME32 Arcade emulator (PC).
Samurai Shodown V Special, also known as Samurai Spirits Zero Special (サムライスピリッツ零 SPECIAL Samurai Supirittsu Zero Special) was released in Japan April 22, 2004 for the Neo Geo console and in Japanese Arcades.
This game may not be nearly as violent as MK, but you gotta admit few games have the nads to allow you to brutally slice children in half.

They may have been intended to be young adults as a pose to children, the art style of many games and anime from the land of the rising sun can sometimes be deceptive or misinterpreted so its tough to tell. Although based on some of the 80-90's anime and manga I have seen no one was spared an unpleasant end - so it wouldn't surprise me either way. Good observation!
The Oldskool Video Gamer Well, as far as I know, Shizumaru should at least be 16, since that's the age where males had their first duel when the country was on war (that's even mentioned with Haohmaru). But clearly, the likes of Rimururu are even younger, so by today standarts, they are children.
Though it's hard to know about Shizumaru, since he is amnesiac.

These are absolutely the most brutal Fatalities I've ever seen in any 2D fighting games.
Coupled with the music, this is seriously the most darkest SS game of all time.

I played one of these Samurai Showdown games as a kid on an arcade machine. I mostly remember that Samurai with the crazy anime hair, that guy with the mask and Arabian like sword, and that female knight is quite the looker. A modern day Samurai Showdown would be great, I definitely would support it!:)

I owned the SNES version of the first game. That one is more tame; in the arcade machine, when you beat them they’re taken away on a stretched covered from head to foot in a death shroud.

The music makes this shit even less pleasent and all the more upsetting. Now I get why this got a special port along with Garou and Last Blade 2 compared to all the ACA NEOGEO titles on PS4 and Switch.

Nakoruru has arguably the most personally dramatic finisher, straddling her downed enemy and saying something ending with "shi-ne" ("now die"), executes her coup-de-grace, and whispers "sayonara" (the more serious form of "goodbye", translating to "if this must be so" - English speakers would use "farewell").
That big demon character has the most grotesque looking and sounding finisher. I doubt I could translate the hiragana, but his gobbling, slurping voice and his hideous smile and other facial expressions say it all. Ugh, that's nightmare fuel for sure!
And the one with the Mortal Kombat-like x-rays of each blow are kind of jumpscarey when you aren't expecting them. Once you've seen them, you wish each character had something similar as it looks way cool.
I also find Shizumaru's finisher dramatic, but mostly because of his backstory: he is convinced he is possesed by a demon and as such he remains in exile and away from people. When he kills the oponent, you can see the "demon" taking over. So when he returns to his senses he finds he has murdered someone. You can hear how upset he sounds when seeing the oponent.

The fatalities in this game are surprisingly tasteful. No random, over-the-top BS fatalities; just no nonsense kills in the appropriate style for each character. Love it!
Agreed, I feel that these serve more as a display of skill and personality of the character than just a display of viscera. Not that there isn't a place for that - but there is also a place for fineness.
I'm currently remastering this with modern shaders and bezels so it will look a lot better - thanks for watching and a great observation.

Watching this suddenly reminds me of a game that I used to love back in the day. You might know it. It's called Bushido Blade. 😁 (Although, Bushido Blade two was my favorite) I liked the realistic weapon combat and the fact that a fight could last 5-10 minutes or a few seconds with a skilled fatal blow to your opponent. You could even lose functionality in both arms and legs during a fight AND STILL have to fight with one arm. 😂😂😂 It was NUTS! But, again Loved it!
Many apologies I meant to reply sooner! Both the Bushido Blade games are a hell of a lot of fun and quite unique offerings at that period in time in terms of mechanics. I remember playing the original with my brother almost every day, we would battle until our blood boiled and then cool off with the 100 Ninjas mode. To this day when I see him we still occasionally have a bout, this 'Barbarian' and 'Moonstone' on the Amiga where our go to games. I am going to do a video on the series soon with modern GLSL shaders and Bezels for that authentic look. Thanks for the memories and the new improved version of this old banger is up now! ;)

These were pretty great out of context especially with the bad localization, a child vivisecting a grown man then begging their dad for help and a guy ripped in half lengthwise by a flying dog. Good stuff.
I agree, and it just goes to show that it's not just the overexposed Mortal Kombat series that can be creative with the art of the coup de grace, SSVS does it very well and with true Japanese flair.
I am currently updating this video to bring it to modern standards = HLSL, Bezels, HD and 60fps are all on the merry horizon.

How do u do these fatalities? Is there a pause menu?
I will give you the basics - during the final round when you are winning and the opponents health is in the blue zone hit A+B+C buttons simultaneously to enter Rage mode ( if you are already in Rage mode then no need). Once in Rage mode use down, down back, back (quarter circle back) and C+D to active the finishing blow - if it connects it will preform the fatality - easy. Best of all it is the same move for every character - now go forth and Zetsumei Ougi in style.
Most emulators have a pause function, cheers for watching mate.

Can you make a video or direct me to one on how to play samurai shodown? I have several on the switch and I used to have them on Wii. I don't understand the mechanics at all. And the digital manual tells you to hit 3 buttons at once to activate I think POW or something and for the life of me I cannot get that to go off. I lay my fingers across all at once or move a finger over each button no matter what I can't activate. I also don't know the difference in moveset at beginning after selecting characters I don't know how to perform moves they just go off randomly when I'm pressing buttons.
I cannot find any tutorials for how to play any # of SS. Can someone please direct me where to look

Enja's is just the best. The voice actor gives it a special touch with that tremendous savage scream at the end. So cool!! xD
It's a great finishing move, and the voice over is spot on. I like the way that upon immolating the opponent he turns to look at the player while wreathed in flame with an evil smile, before ascending to the sky with that scream - very cool indeed.
I wish we had a reboot of this franchise, it definitely deserves it. Maybe done by Arc System Works. It'd be amazing. Let's hope!! \(^0^)/

I only know the Kusaregedo one, when he's about to eat the enemy. He says "Idadagimazu" which is a demented way of saying "Itadakimasu", which in context, means "Now let's eat!"

But with the universal bios the fatalities are always available with a fixed aes (I think).
