  • Summer can be rough on the garden, and our plants are no exception! In this video we'll show you what we're doing in the mid-summer garden to keep it happy, healthy, and producing--from a homemade fertilizer, to seeding some fall flowers, to helping some struggling soil and trellising some overgrown plants!
    It's not too late to direct seed some things into your garden if your plants have stopped producing, either--so take heart! This video has it all, so come on along!

    So much good information. Thank you. Please don't forget the list of the pumpkins. Not yet in the description.
    And just an aside, I have what I think is Russian kale that is now in it's second year of growing back without me doing anything. I was pretty amazed when it came back last year but this year was an especially nice surprise. I knew kale was pretty cold hardy but I had no idea it could be a "perennial" 😊.

      Love it. My rainbow chard was perennial for 4 years, then a tough winter finally took it. But it was a tough year

    Another great thing about leaving the poppy roots (or other) in the clay soil is the structure of the roots helps to lift and loosen the soil 🎉

    I really appreciate the time you spent on different areas of your garden and giving great tips! I was encouraged to see your lisianthus, I grew mine from seed and thought I did something wrong since I haven’t seen any flowers yet but they’re at the same stage as the ones you mulched with pine needles.❤😊

    Well I learned what I can do with the millions of pine needles!!!! My Dad always said they acidify the soil but I’m gonna give these a try cause th weeds are insane here in Nj. It takes a long time to pick them out then they come right back🤯
    2 seconds before you said brownies I thought it😂
    Lovely video, thank you for sharing!!👏👏👏👏

    It was almost a relief to hear you say that ranunculus don’t grow very well in Colorado - I tried them twice and only got a few. I am wondering though - have you ever tried them as a fall crop since they prefer cooler temperatures? I live in the mountains of Colorado so appreciate your channel for learning about our climate and soil health from you…and lots more! Appreciate your channel so much!

    Great info about adding compost on top of the needles!
    We have so many grasshoppers this year plus the heat ..s many things died here in Falcon so a reset was in order. I planted more things that the grasshoppers weren't eating!

    I have a question if I may. I have quite light, sandy, 'thirsty' soil. I suppose leaving roots and incorporate organic matter in such soil is beneficial, too?

    • @MyFocusVaries
      @MyFocusVaries หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Always! More organic material is always better, and it's better for soil life.

    Also, double check patent dates, many patented plants are still showing the patent but the patent is expired.

    I live in Lakewood, CO. I have had an influx of bunnies. They were living under my front porch, then I saw they were going for my back porch. I have now bricked both stoops so they can no longer get under there, but you know what they say about rabbits! They have annihilated my front and back lawn. I have tried everything. They got under my netting and into my garden plants. Gone are the Cukes and pepper and eggplants. What do you do to keep the rabbits away? I am so disillusioned, I spend my days chasing then away and brushing Japanese Beetles into the soapy water. Have you done a video on this subject? Help!

    I believe that you can save patented plants for your own use, you just can’t sell or give them away to others.

    • @MyFocusVaries
      @MyFocusVaries หลายเดือนก่อน

      She sells flowers. And while personal use is tolerated, likely because it can't be detected, it's still illegal.

    • @MyFocusVaries
      @MyFocusVaries หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's patented (like being under copyright) and, therefore, illegal to self propagate.
