Awesome. I would LOVE...we would LOVE LOVE to move away from so. calif to someplace were we could grow food, have four seasons but not a lot or little snow but still have that rural space with good internet (we are gamers with no kids woot!). I am 15-17 yrs from retirement so we are kind of stuck here for a bit. If you know anything of central california it is beautiful, it is $$$$$$ etc.
We talked about going to southern Oregon. Good luck in your move! My father was from Penn but never returned back. Nothing like having enough space to farm, grown everything you need, hunt on your property and managing that property for such activities. Ugh, if we could, we'd do it.

Btw mr. .....your wifey ... she’s my hero! An absolutely inspiring and beautiful woman! I love how intuitive and skilled she is at all the animal and garden stuff, at our little homestead I’ll also be taking on that same role. ❤️thanks to you both for the incredible and informative content!!

Congratulations! It will be. A lot . Of work. But, the joys will be much more! Good luck!
I had to chuckle, we are looking at buying a 160 acre tract in NW MT of timber land to build a homestead on. Friends keep asking what we will DO with 160 acres? I tell them, worst case will be that the timber land just continues to grow. We plan to live there, raise gardens and animals, use the timber to build our house and out buildings and any other infrastructure we need, also to build furniture for our use and to possibly sell. I laugh, WHAT will we do with the land? :)
Blessings to you on your next path in this endeavor to provide for your family!

I'm a new subscriber. I was raised near the area that you folks are moving too. Western PA is very beautiful country and a great place to raise kids and farm. I spent my early years about an hour east of Pittsburgh in a little town called Jeanette. We then moved to SW PA about an hour south of Pittsburg. A little College town called Waynesburg. It's spitting distance from WV.
I get homesick from time to time as I still have relatives up there. But I don't miss the winters. We live in TX and due to health conditions, we don't get back to PA very often. But I'm sure that you will love the area and the folks. Sounds like you're moving near Somerset PA.
Best of Luck on your move. Will be awaiting your vids on how things are going.
    God Bless

With all those breweries, craft breweries, wineries in the new region, this is a good option for gaining post-mash for livestock and fowl feed. And if any of them have their own restaurants you also tie back in your goods with their restaurant menu for additional options.

The family farm sounds idyllic: potential for rotational pasturing, 'shrooming, hunting, maybe fishing. What a great place to grow up. I'm so glad you are taking all your animals with you.
How is the internet service on the farm in Pennsylvania? Specifically, what's the upload speed like in such a rural area?
P.S. All that work will be so worthwhile.

Love to see how your subscriber moves fruit trees if you see/hear of it. Let the adventure begin!

Hopefully your new land is already perimeter fenced & posted "No hunting/trespassing" - if there are loads of hunters around there, many don't pay attention to signs, I'd get orange vests for Luna and Ladybug because they are pretty much the same color as a deer...
Your new land has been "ignored" for many years, so the soil is probably once again clean enough to be organic.

I am so happy for you, but you better start packing the things that can get stored in your PA barn and move them to that storage now so you won't be having to spend all that time, gas and work doing it all at once the end of this journey. Start making lists of Furniture, toys (man or kids), stuff you already have in the attic, unused extra farm supplies... you get my drift i'm sure. Many trips over a period of time will be so much less stressful.

My earliest years were spent on a 38 acre farm about an hour outside of Annapolis, MD. Parents moved us (closest brother in age, me and mom/dad) to SW FL when I was 10. Have missed that lifestyle ever since. Met my husband there (he's from Worchester, MA, so yes..go PATS). We settled down in SW FL for 10 years and then ended up in NW GA. Wanted to get property there but parents talked Us into coming to there property in the Fl Panhandle about an hour above Panama city. Didn't work out for us, my parents are almost 80 and hard to live with or next to. So we bought 7.5 acres in the next town over and are Finally starting our Homesteading adventure. Had chickens for years, got about 40 now, 3 tky's, 2 ND goats, and 4 pigs. Sheep and dexters to come eventually. Good luck on your move. My grandpa mined out that way in his youth, beautiful area! You'll love it.

We are leaving our 5 acre homestead and downsizing to about an acre (I hope.) Why downsizing? Well l started this homestead with my parents 15 years ago. I did most of the outside work myself. Three years ago I injured my back and 3 months later was diagnosed with cancer and had to go through 10 months of treatment.During that time, my dad was diagnosed with congestive heart failure ( he's in his 80s now) so neither one of us is able to maintain livestock or work the land. I am hoping to have a place where we can still have a garden, chickens, and a couple of goats. I don't know ow where we will end up yet though.

Lotsa bigfoot sightings out there folks. Better keep your eyes open for prints and stolen livestock and livestock feed. Right where you are going is a popular location for sightings and encounters. As far as state sightings rankings....PA is like 4th in the nation.

Wherever you land, find your county Extension office and use them for information. It's free and all info comes from university research. Just call them. Hope to find you at the Mother Earth News Fair this coming year.

When we moved we purchased a converter to plug into the cigarette lighter and some long extension cords and we were able to keep the freezers at to proper temps. It was extremely heavy. But we got it taken care of with a couple of extra hands.

In Europe the people say you dont have to begin under 130 acre
In the eastern side people live on 250 acre and dont have enough money to live
Farming is realy hard in europe
And if you dont have graduated a farmers school you are not allowed to buy farming land

    • @Homesteadyshow

Marcin Pawski very interesting agriculture around the world varies so much

    • @mpking7565
      @mpking7565 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes but this system is going to fail. the eu is giving so much money to the big ones so the small farms die out. This development will hopefully stop and the smal ones begin t#o rise up again
Yur channel and your work is very inspiring and I hope to build up a homestead here in europe too in a few years

Yep, exciting but a little scary too. Looking back on my life, that was the most challenging thing I ever went thru was moving and it was literally only 5 miles from previous residence. I don’t do well with change.
