Damita Joe made the GODFATHER of soul slow his roll while she got BIZZYYYY The respect and pure admiration on both parts is why I love and reminisce on my people.
I think James forgot that he was supposed to be performing. Good God I love it. Much respect to the God Father and Ms Damita. I could watch this over and over and I have.
@@thetruesoulofanaquarius9302 There are many differences between now and back then. Back then Some women wore wigs where as now damn near all of you wear that shit. Today you got young girls wearing that shit. Back then little girls were all natural because their parents taught them better. A If you weren’t alive living in that era you shouldn’t speak on it because it was far different than the fake phony shot you see out here today.
A lot of the dancers explained that the famous guest would usually be looking for certain dancers because they had been watching the show just like everyone else and admired how the danced and wanted specific dancers included in their shows. The dancers admitted the didn’t get paid money but had so many opportunities just being seen on the show it was worth it. So I’m sure James knew who she was already and was happy to groove with Damita Jo!
Yes!!! James Brown does not give up stage to ANYBODY so you know he was impressed by her skills! The Godfather moved over and let our sister do her thing...loved it! #JB #DamitaJo #SuperBad
Same with me... It's interesting seeing all these old performers in their prime... The moves are crazy CRINGE for today... But ya gotta start somewhere. Of course a lot of these moves trace back to 20s and 30s clubs in the deep south.
Man! I remember these days!!! We watched this on Saturday mornings in the NYC area! The band members are scared to death to watch her because if they missed a beat, they’d be docked cash from the Man JB!!! Ha!!!
Damita Jo Freeman is definitely that girl she went on to work with major celebrities in the industry.... In '78 Damita was on Broadway 2 years later she was on the big screen in Private Benjamin then in the television series.....
Damitra Jo Freeman wasn't a chick! She was a " Dancing Queen!" She made the King of Soul stop and she showed him what she was working with. I waited every Saturday for Ms. Freeman.
Those people were striving to recreate and reinvent themselves through their music and dance... it became the rebirth of the African culture in the Americas
can you imagine how that had to have looked to them back when she actually did that!!!??? 😮😧😮, this is similar to when mj did the moonwalk at motown 25!!! ✊😄
I watch this so many times and never get tired of watching the best soul music of the 70s. The dancers and the artists were excellent performers. The best era of my life.❤❤❤
Right. I like watching dancers, but sometimes I can’t help but think the moves are silly, but everything about her and her dancing was always great to me. She really expressed the music with her moves if that makes sense
James realized at the beginning when Damita came up onto the stage that she could dance, and therefore, he didn't have to break a sweat for that gig. He just had to sing and enjoy the woman's moves. Pretty much every other performance by James required a shower, a fresh change of clothes, and a trip to the dry cleaners. James wasn't dumb...
Just like Michael, not one wasted move AND.perfection to boot! Amazing as she amazed the King and didn't even have to "Get On The Goodfoot!!". And later in her career, after "pumping up" she does that impossible "split" even with that incredible muscularity. Can I get a witness! Amen!
If there is a dancer's hall of fame, she DEFINITELY needs to be in it!
Damita Joe made the GODFATHER of soul slow his roll while she got BIZZYYYY The respect and pure admiration on both parts is why I love and reminisce on my people.
so fine the remi on the fine people....so so so fine then....so so so rare since a while......
Was going to post something but you already said it....I miss those days...Be safe and blessed.... Love is Love

Soul Train required most acts to do playback... but no one was about tell James Brown to lip synch, haha.
Was just thinking that LMFAO 🔥🔥🔥
No one was about to tell Mr. Brown what to do. Not even Don.
Actually a lot of artists sang live in the early days. It wasn't until later that they almost all did lip sync.
Tik Told could NEVER!!!!!!!
Domita Jo Freeman is on On Point this morning talking about this clip.
Mr Brown' smile is priceless!
