- Preussens Gloria con el Ejercito de Chile en Gran Parada Militar 1998. "Preußens Gloria", Armeemarschsammlung II, 240, es una marcha militar muy conocida del siglo 19. Su compositor fue Johann Gottfried Piefke (1817-1884). "Preußens Gloria" ("La Gloria de Prusia" o "Gloria Prusiana") fue escrita en 1871 despues de la victoria del Reino Prusiano durante la guerra Franco-Prusiana, la cual llevo a la unificacion de Alemania. La marcha se toco por primera vez durante el retorno y parada triunfal de las tropas en Frankfurt (Oder), la base del destacamento del cual era Piefke. Como Piefke solo la tocaba para ocaciones especiales, la marcha fue poco conocida por un largo tiempo. En 1909 el manuscrito de la musica casi olvidada aparecio y fue revisada por el inspector de musica militar el Profesor Grawert. Al poco tiempo fue incluida en la colleccion de marchas Prusianas. Hoy en dia es una de las marchas mas conocidas del ejercito Aleman. Muchas veces es tocada por el Bundeswehr en ceremonias oficiales y visitas de estado. Tambien es una marcha muy difundida en otros ejercitos del mundo. En Alemania se toca por otras bandas no militares debido a su popularidad. He aqui la version de esta marcha bajo la tutela del Ejercito de Chile durante la anual Gran Parada militar de 1998. _______________________________________ "Preußens Gloria", Armeemarschsammlung II, 240, is a well-known military march of the 19th century. Its composer was Johann Gottfried Piefke (1817-1884). "Preußens Gloria" ("The Glory of Prussia" or "Prussia's Glory") was written in 1871 after the Kingdom of Prussia's victory in the Franco-Prussian War, which led to the unification of Germany. For the victory parade of the returned troops the march was performed for the first time in public in Frankfurt (Oder), the base of Piefke's garrison. As Piefke only performed it on important occasions, the march was unknown to a broader public for a long time. In 1909 the manuscript of the almost forgotten tune turned up and was reworked by army-musical inspector Prof. Grawert. Shortly afterwards it was included in the collection of Prussian army marches. Today it is one of the most known German army marches. It is often played by the Bundeswehr on official ceremonies and state visits. It also is a standard tune in many international military bands. In Germany it is often played by non-professional bands due to its popularity.

Having lived in Latin America, everyone knew that Chile has its act together. The Chilean Army is the best in Latin America and has kicked ass many times. If Chile were a larger country I am positive it would be a great power.
A lot of German officers used to train the Chile military. So, they picked up a lot of German culture/style. Like goose stepping, their uniforms, helmets, music, etc.

¡Emocionante! Eso es un autentico desfile militar, que marcialidad, que perfección en la ejecución del paso de la oca y cada unidad desfilando con su jefe a la cabeza, (como debe ser).
Digno heredero de la mas pura tradición prusiana y ¿que decir de la música?, la mas bella marcha militar jamas creada, conmemorativa de la aplastante victoria del glorioso ejercito prusiano sobre Francia en 1870.

Germany will again revive the proud Prussian military traditions she once espoused. Professionalism, pride, honor and tradition are not dead in Germany. These things are merely dormant but will again rise to the surface. I am proud to see them being carried on by the Chilean military! The German soldier was and is one of the best fighting forces in the world and the Chilean soldiers, airmen, sailors and other fighting forces join those ranks of professionalism, pride and marital skills.

La decisión de adoptar tal disciplina militar fue del presidente Domingo Santa María contratando a Emilio Körner, dada su experiencia como docente en la Escuela de artillería e ingenieros de Charlottenburg, haciéndolo responsable del entrenamiento del ejército.

Con el fin de modernizar el ejército, el gobierno de Domingo Santa María contrató a varios oficiales prusianos que debían mejorar la educación, reglamentos y trabajo de la institución. Durante este proceso de modernización se profesionalizó la formación de la oficialidad con modernización de los contenidos de enseñanza de la Escuela Militar, la creación de la Academia de Guerra (la primera de América y la cuarta academia más antigua de su género en el mundo, siendo precedida por la escuela del Reino Unido (1799), Prusia (1826) y Francia (1876)). Asimismo se creó el Instituto Geográfico Militar, se instauró durante este período el Servicio militar obligatorio.
En ese período llegaron a Chile Emilio Körner y se adoptaron algunas de las tradiciones y uniformes como el Stahlhelm y Pickelhaube.

In order to modernize the army, the government of Domingo Santa Maria hired several Prussian officers who were to improve the institution's education, regulations and work. During this process of modernization, the formation of the officiality was modernized with modernization of the teaching contents of the Military School, the creation of the War Academy (the first of America and the fourth oldest academy of its kind in the world, being preceded by the school of the United Kingdom (1799), Prussia (1826) and France (1876). Also the Military Geographic Institute was created, during this period the obligatory military Service was established.
In that period Emilio Körner arrived in Chile and adopted some of the traditions and uniforms like the Stahlhelm and Pickelhaube.

@god4488 Germany/Prussia and Chile had good relations in the past and until 1945 german army officers trained the Army of Chile... so they have many many german traditions... the helmets as well as the german march-music you hear (Prussians Gloria)... seems in Chile the german army traditions lived longer than in germany itself... hehe

as far as I know its more difficult for younger people who are new to the Marching step not due to the movement but because of the pain and burning feel on your feet,but according to Wikipedia,this is the original Stechschrit (original name in German of Goose-stepping)which is around 45 degrees, the other countries like Russia and most Communist/Socialist countries use a more violent version of it that was used at the 3rd Reich(around 90 degrees)
