THIS Is Why Luisa Lost Her Powers First! (Hint: It Wasn't Because Of The Candle)

  • Welcome to our clan of Disney chaos! While the rest of the Madrigal family began to show signs of their powers beginning to fade or lose control like when Camilo began shapeshifting randomly and against his will, for Luisa, it was a bit different. She actually mentioned to her younger sister Mirabel that she was beginning to feel “weak” towards the BEGINNING of Encanto rather than during the back half of the movie like the rest of her family. And if you noticed, the glow that emanates from each of the family member’s bedroom doors began to flicker on Luisa’s as soon as she admitted that her gift was fading...but why??

    i feel like luisa's gift represents itself. what i mean is that since her gift is super strength, when she's happy and feeling good, her gift becomes stronger whereas when she is upset or is cracking under the pressure, her gift becomes weak. In the film, Luisa was working so much, even at the party while everyone was partying, she was still working. I mean she couldn't even take a 5 minute break just to mingle and party with everyone. So maybe the real reason her door started flickering and her gift started becoming weak was because she literally was cracking under pressure and couldn't handle it any longer. When she opened up to Mirabel about how she trully feels about the constant pressure, Mirabel gave her the rest she needed.. but when luisa's emotions started showing on the outside, her gift became even more weaker. (her emotions too affect the results of her gift.)

      I agree with you. Can you imagine 5 year old Luisa getting so excited to receive her gift only to also receive such a heavy burden? She literally is carrying the Madrigal family on her shoulders and has been expected to just always work everyday and carry all the heavy stuff since she was 5. But she sucked it up and did it like Isabella did. It was only till their little sister stepped up and got them to open up that it all changed for the two girls.

    I thought it was really telling of how much everyone took Luisa for granted that when Antonio gets the gift of talking to animals, not one person said that he could talk the donkeys into going where they needed to be instead of having Luisa carry them everywhere. Even Abuela says to Antonio that she supposed they could find a use for his gift, not once considering Luisa is carrying those donkeys everywhere.

      Wow that is a really good point you've made It made me cry the way she was taken for granted and exploited and they did an amazing job showing her emotions through her face when she was overwhelmed and during the song I found it delightful when she was dreaming of things she would like to do.
      The imbalance of powers also drew a bit of bullying in some cases where some were glorified while others with weaker powers had little snide remarks thrown at them or about them which would impact their self worth it was obvious while she had the strength and always presented well with the way she carried herself, she also had low self esteem as well. Or am I wrong?

    The answer to this question is literally in Luisa's song "Surface Pressure". In it, there's a line, "Under the surface, I hide my nerves and it worsens I worry something is gonna hurt us..." The cause of these nerves and worry are explained by the immediate succeeding line "Under the surface, the ship doesn't swerve as it heard how big the iceberg is...". This meant that because her entire family (the ship) relies on her, they aren't scared of anything (how big the iceberg is). This puts pressure on Luisa to protect the family if something is going to hurt them.
    Also after her song, she told Mirabel, "Last night, when you saw the cracks, I felt... weak." This isn't a literal simultaneous event. It is more likely that when Luisa saw Mirabel running to Antonio's room to call attention to the cracks she saw, Luisa's worry caused her self-doubt and she felt weak. And after confiding with her younger sister and seeing how determined Mirabel is to solve the Madrigal magic issue, Luisa realized that there really is a "huge iceberg" coming their way and the "ship" (Madrigal family led by Abuela Alma) isn't going to swerve so she will have to face it as she is the strong one. Self-doubt sets in again and her power weakened after that.
    This is basically what happened with Tia Pepa on her wedding day. Bruno was joking about her sweating when he said "It looks like rain", but she misunderstood it and thought it was a prophecy. This resulted to her mood changing which affected the weather and Bruno's "non-prophecy" came true.

    • @Red-jl1qr

      I'm pretty sure the ship is referring to her and how she's not supposed to "swerve" away from danger/a challenge

    • @jholmes553
      @jholmes553 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@Red-jl1qr I disagree.
      This portion of the song was matched with a visual of a ship heading straight to an iceberg. Both Luisa and Mirabel are on that ship with presumably other passengers.
      Viewers know that it is not wise for a ship to not swerve for an iceberg. We know about Titanic. Yet the ship shown in that part of the song is bravely facing the iceberg head-on because as was shown, Luisa is tasked to remove the iceberg and clear the path for the Madrigal ship - captained by Abuela.

    It’s a nice theory! However, I have one of my own regarding how Luisa started losing her gift:
    Almost everyone agrees that Mirabel is going to be Alma's successor. So if we follow that theory, this means that she’d be also pulling the strings of how the miracle is supposed to work. So once Mirabel tells Luisa that she’s carrying too much and that she should relax every once in a while, the miracle listened to her, but it also came into a crossroads because it didn’t know if it should follow Alma's directions or Mirabel’s, and thus, Luisa’s gift started to malfunction.
    It would also explain how Isabela’s gift started to evolve after Mirabel told her that it’s ok to not be perfect and to try new things

    We get a hint to the pressure on Luisa when she's very first introduced: along with Mirabel's description of her, there's voices of the villagers chanting, "Luisa! Luisa! Luisa! Luisa!" Which is what she hears as soon as she exits Casita.

  • @Nurichiri

    I wonder if the first cracks Mirabel saw were the physical manifestation of Luisa's internal struggle. Bruno had been patching his own cracks in the walls for years, but since he wasn't using his power he was unaware of any issues with it, and when he finally does it comes with little expectation on his part.

    • @v.m.9754
      @v.m.9754 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's a really good point. But it means that nobody was actually losing their gifts but just a reflection of their own faith in their gifts. The first cracks appeared when Bruno had reached a turning point when he predicted another bad "prophecy" so great that it would greatly affect the family esp Mirabel. The cracks were him having regrets and doubting his gifts that he doesn't even want to use it anymore. I'd like to believe that if he had tried to use his gifts in that span of years he wouldn't be able to bec he doesn't believe in himself. Then Mirabel came and guided him into seeing things more differently.
      Luisa's cracks were just a spiral of negative thoughts like we all experience when we are questioning our worth and every little thing that doesn't meet our expectations worsens that outlook and in Luisa's case, manifests those thoughts. So every thought of I'm not strong enough or I would no longer be able to lift this up becomes real. Just like Pepa's where every reflection of emotions or mood manifests in her powers: the weather.
      Meaning that everyone collectively lose their powers the moment the candle died but before then their powers flicker reflecting their losing faith.

    • @Nurichiri
      @Nurichiri ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@v.m.9754 And the cracks that Mirabel saw that no one else did were her own cracks as to her place in the family and if she even belonged at all. Adding onto that, when the cracks went nuts during dinner it was as a result of mounting tension (Dolores holding in both Mirabel's secret and her feelings for Mariano, Isabela really not wanting to go through with it) getting worse as the fear spread. Finally when it all basically exploded powers started going nuts due to fear.

    I think another reason for her to loose her gift first is if you view family as home then Luisa was the walls of the family. Abula and by the end of it Mirabel were the foundation of the family. Abula was the original foundation but like with physical homes after sometime you need to redo/reinforce the foundation and Mirabel inherited that as her gift to be the new/future foundation of the family. Luisa was the strength. She viewed it as her job to protect her family just as the walls of a house do. And what is one of the first signs that the foundation needs help? Cracks in the wall. So as the foundation in the family got worse the strain on Luisa got stronger and we saw bigger ans bigger cracks form in her and the lose of her powers.

      Abuela needed a little more humbling for her actions, for a long time she put a lot of strain on her family members and it showed from her children, than her grandchildren.

    This hit the nail right on the head. I feel like Luisa does, ALL the time, being the exclusive 24-7 caregiver for my senior mom, who had a stroke 22 years ago and is now homebound and can barely move from her sleep chair to her potty chair, and only with my assistance. I have a sister who lives only minutes away but she does not help with mom, at all. I have no assistance, no respite, and am in a battle to get some home health in here. I think the best explanation is the line "Luisa admits to feeling weak around the time that Mirabel sees the cracks in the FOUNDATION."
    Luisa's song literally talks about her being the foundation "Give it to your sister, your sister's stronger, see if she can hang on a little longer. Watch as she buckles and bends but never breaks. .." much like a foundation. So when the foundation started to WEAKEN [i.e crack] so too did Luisa, the foundation that carries everything on her shoulders. Luisa goes first because she is the foundation, even though she's not where everything started. This can even be added to when she's holding up/juggling Casita in her song as proof she's what's keeping everything standing, in a way. She carriers not only literal weight, but emotional and other weights from her family on her shoulders. So while the foundation is weakening, so is she. But she's still got some of her strength - her doubts make it so when it's not as easy she instantly gives up which makes it look like her powers are entirely gone, but they're just weakened. We only see Isabella lose her powers almost entirely as the house is ACTUALLY falling apart because she was able to grow everything around the house while singing with Mirabel, and is able to use a vine to try and save her sister - but it randomly vanishes as the sign of her powers gone. Camilo loses being the random mash up when he falls so that's when his is also gone. So we see that no one fully loses their powers until the Casita is crumbling. Granted we don't see Pepa or Julieta or Bruno using theirs at this time so we don't know when they lose them, but know that Julieta and Pepa are still full strength for most of the movie despite the cracks.
    Also want to add, Julieta having medicine nearby [we see this in the bottle she grabs from a case of bottles] to bring to her daughter suggests that Julieta does more than feed people to heal them and it seems like she might've had a back up plan or that people don't always get a chance to rely on her magical food for healing and thus have medicine [maybe due to the increasing town size with people having kids and such?] for when she's not available, which tells you that the town probably relies on her FAR LESS than the kids. And it seems everyone in town knows Bruno and has had at least one future read by him [due to how many have stories and sing about it and seem genuinely scared of him in the song "We don't talk about bruno" and "The Family Madrigal".] -- so it seems he was relied on a lot too. So other than maybe forever good weather, I wonder how much Pepa is relied on. Did they intentionally upset her when they needed rain on their crops? Because it seems it's not until Mirabel helps Isa see her potential that she's exclusively flowers and doesn't seem to be used for crops or other important plants - and before her birth they'd have to rely on someone else. But we see evidence of people relying on the other two triplets - so one would imagine they relied on Pepa too - but still seems all the triplets were relied on less than the kids in one way or another, but even still, it seems like Luisa is the #1 person they go to for help. Isa does flowers and everyone adores her, so probably weren't driving her crazy with requests. Luisa is running around during most scenes and songs, but we repeatedly see Isabella just walking around, and other than her very "Show off" displays she doesn't seem to be doing any sort of chores around town. Dolores also seems to just be her grandma's ears because we don't see her doing chores - but we do see Camilo making people smile, changing shape so a new mother could have a break while he takes care of the baby, changes shape to greet people, to help decorate and etc so it seems he also does more in the town. It'd be interesting to see how some of the other Madrigals are important to the town to see how/why their powers might've disappeared in the order they did or if they had backups like medicine as Julieta seems to despite her healing food.

    Miracles are predicated on FAITH. FEAR is the antithesis of FAITH. The miracle was dying because as Abuela became more fearful of losing the miracle...triggered when Mirabel didn't get a gift. Camilo's gift started becoming quirky when he learned that Mirabel found Bruno's missing vision.

    one was using it all the time and
    two had a physical way of telling knew hers were fading.
    what i mean is if before it was fading Isabella could create 50 000 flowers at once but when it was fading could only create 45 000 flowers how could she tell? if Juiliettas food could last 3 months without the healing abilities fading but the food goes off after only two weeks, say for example, would she notice if after it started to fade it only lasted 2 months? or if her ability doesnt help preserve the food maybe it could heal people completely before they had finished chewing the bite once but after it started to fade it took the length of time for them to chew twice, unless it was a really bad situation, would she have noticed?
    Luisa, however would notice if its getting harder and harder to pick up and carry all of the things expected of her especially as they are mundane chores so most likely did the same things daily and her ability requires her touch for it to work. whereas the rest of the family can use their abilities without contact making it harder for them to realise somethings wrong.

    I personally think that that the miracle affected everyone at the same time. It's just Luisa was more affected because her gift is more physical. At the party there was there no need to shape shift. Everybody in the village was basically there at the celebration with music so a person with a hearing ability might not notice it so much. And all the other people unless they were using they using abilities they probably wouldn't have noticed anything was wrong. If the magical candle wasn't in the room of the celebration then the person who's ability that was probably wouldn't have noticed anything was wrong either. Even Antonio was dancing which means he probably wasn't focusing on using his animal ability. But because Luisa's ability is strength, Luisa must obviously know what it feels like to be as strong as she is. She has that strength all the time so she's comfortable with it. Luisa can't turn off her strength at all because that's just how her gift works. So she's not the first person to loose her ability. Because I really think it affected everyone in the family. But because of how Luisa's gift works, she was the first to be affected and really notice that something was up. Everybody else was probably too distracted or too busy having a good time to really notice.

Like said in her song, she was expected to handle all the family's burdens without asking whether those burdens she's being expected to deal with might break her. I think Luisa lost her powers 1st probably because she's overworked and exhausted. Abuela and the village never allow her to rest. Proper rest is essential to maintaining physical stength. Given her role not only as the resident strong woman but also the Warrior/Protector of the family, her fears are getting the best of her and draining her strength. She's not strong enough to shoulder the burden alone but feels she has to/is expected to, and she doesn't know how to say no, so her body is saying no by shutting down and refusing this load it can't carry any longer.

    The magic seemed to be breaking because of the breaking of the family. I don't think anyone is less regarded than Luisa except Bruno and possibly Mirabel. Not that the family thinks badly of her, but that they don't seem to think about her much at all. Antonio looks up to Mirabel and her parents try to support her as the only Madrigal child without a gift. It's possible they do the same for Luisa off screen, but because she's so strong and seems so self sufficient, maybe they don't think they need to. Whereas the affects of Alma on Mirabel are more obvious.

    Luisa is right there! Doesn't matter how strong you are you still need a shoulder to lean on every now and again. The idea that she tied her own self worth to how much she can do for others is sad and needed to be explored in more than just a single song verse!

    I have a theory that might be true!
    So I think that the family got their gifts depending on what they wanted to be or liked to do etc.
    The only reason I thought about this is because Antonio liked animals and then he could speak to animals.If you listen to the fanmade song by O3ORO Turn it down Dolores said "Not anymore" which made me think that Dolores was always kept out of the familys secrets or the outsiders secrets so she wanted to hear what they all were saying.I also believe Luisa was a bit weak before she got her gift and she couldnt really help her family with any lifting so she wanted to be stronger so she could help the village more.Thank you for reading so far and I hope ypu have a good rest of year :)

    Luisa's gift is the most used and abused. Some of the gifts almost amount to being curses. Bruno is reviled because he can be the bearer of bad omens, but he is merely the messenger, not the message. People blame him, but he has nothing to do with it -- he just reported it. Delores's super hearing must also be a torture. A constant cacophony of noise -- how does she get any sleep? Or does she just tune it out?

    I think the reason luisa was the first madrigal to lose her gift is because she was carrying way too much like so many heavy things heavy after heavy after heavy then maybe this was starting to tire out luisa's gift and it was getting weaker fading away cause of the pressure

    Luisa, Isabella, Mirabel, Bruno, and Pepa I think are the ones who were most effected but the entire family is just a wreck emotionally. But especially on Julieta and Agustin's side. They all need serious therapy.
    Luisa is given too much pressure with the whole village depending on her for everything.
    Isabella is sick of being "perfect" and wants to be normal and be herself for once in her life
    Mirabel is basically an outsider to her own family
    Bruno *_IS_* an outsider to his own family
    Pepa has to supress her emotions and it's slowly driving her clinically insane and having major mood swings.(I wouldn't be suprised if she has a personality disorder by this point)

    I have a theory that the reason Luisa felt weak is because she was using her gift when the house started to crack. She was probably holding something and felt a little weakness from it, because she is constantly using her gift.

      Different countries have different laws surrounding labor. 💁🏽‍♀️ Not everywhere has the same laws. Also, because it's her own family, not someone else, that she's putting in the labor for (even though some of it is for the village, it's through her family), even in the US you'd be unlikely to see it change. It's not termed the same as child labor when it's family.
      I think it's an asinine distinction, honestly.

    I like this theory, it's really pertinent
    I find too bad that I don't find a video about Pepa; I think there is way more things to say about her; particularly that her poer is not that she cotrol weather ith her emotion but that she control weather and is controled by her emotions and the situation of both make her a lack of control about emotion and about power. And I think that Bruno is the key. She's the one who don't want to talk about Bruno the most, probably because she has a lot of emotions about him, positive and negative and just keep them inside her. She don't want to talk because she don't want to be emotionally overflowed.
    This video make me notice something: Isabela still attack people at the nose, the organ of smell

  • @NAVEMAN3
    @NAVEMAN3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I think she was losing her gift first was because she was the only one that uses it the most. I mean I know it's possible that Dolores couldn't control it 100% but she also didn't use it the most in comparison to the rest of the cousins. Same with Camillo. He uses his gift the most and so he was glitching. Why Pepa didn't lose her first was because she was taught to suppress her emotion and powers and always kept it sunny meaning she can't use it when it's time to rain, hail, or snow if that's even possible. So the ones that use their gift the most will lose their gift the fastest. Any thoughts?

    Do not reply to this comment with swear words I mean it I hate swear words and don’t reply with a rude reply either if someone doesn’t like this comment then don’t reply at all. I thought of an idea and I know this is weird since reality-warping powers are not real but I’ll say it anyway because I wouldn’t be able to do it with time travel. If I had reality-warping powers, I would erase the Croods characters except for Ugga, the Disney dinosaur movie but I would use the deadly meteor shower scene it for my movie, and erase the movie Encanto from existence but I would use the three sisters from Encanto and make them cave girls and make a new movie called Disney Pixar cave people. I would combine the animations of the Disney dinosaur, the Croods, and Encanto. It would have the locations from Disney Dinosaur and the Croods in it and it would be 2 hours and 50 minutes long and make it a musical. It would even have action and adventure in it too. It would have the actresses who did the voices of the three sisters and other people who can sing amazingly. It would have the dinosaurs from Disney Dinosaur (only bigger) and more dinosaurs that we didn’t see in Disney dinosaur that can talk in this movie. Also In this movie, cave people can talk to the plant-eating dinosaurs and they jump high, swing on vines, and climb trees like the lemurs in Disney dinosaur. The meat-eater dinosaurs wouldn’t talk in this movie like they did in the Disney dinosaur movie. There would be more locations in this movie than there were in the Disney dinosaur and the croods movie. The character Aladar would still exist but he wouldn’t be the main character in the movie. The main characters are a family of cave people who live on an island with other cave families. The island looks similar to Lemur island from Disney dinosaur only bigger. There is a mother and a father who have four daughters, the cavewoman who strongly resembles Mirabel is the oldest, the cavewoman who strongly resembles Isabella is the middle daughter, the other two are the youngest and they are twins and both strongly resemble Luisa. The cavewoman who strongly resembles Mirabel is 22 years old, the cavewoman who strongly resembles Isabella is 19 and the twin cavewomen who strongly resemble Luisa are both 15. Also, the cavewoman who looks exactly like Mirabel has a husband who looks exactly like Mariano Guzmán from Encanto and has a daughter of her own named Suri who is 5 years old and looks like a female version of Disney's Tarzan when he was a child and she loves to swing on vines and slide on trees. She also likes to do a female Tarzan yell. The twin cavewomen who strongly resemble Luisa are very strong and taller than their sisters just like Luisa is in Encanto but not as tall and strong as her father and they have a close relationship with their niece Suri and always tries to be there for their niece. The cave sisters would have a grandmother who strongly resembles the grandmother from Encanto, a grandfather and three aunts, and three uncles. Ugga from the Croods would be the mother of those three cave girls. The movie would be about a family of cave people who are trying to find a new home after their island home is destroyed by massive deadly meteor showers. The cave family along with dinosaur companion Aladar are the only survivors. The rest of the cave families were killed by the deadly meteor showers. They will have to travel far and face many dangers that lie ahead of them. For example, Carnotaurs, T-rexes, pterodactyls water meat-eater dinosaurs, raptors, and spinosaurus. Even Earthquakes. There would be a scene where the twin cavewomen who look exactly like Luisa sings a prehistoric version of the song the lion sleeps tonight with their niece Suri while riding on Aladar just to be funny. It would be called the T-Rex sleeps tonight. I would use my reality-warping powers to have this movie released in 2025. This movie would be for adults too because it would have adult jokes in it and other adult things. It would have a different opening, it would show more of the island before it gets destroyed. The meteor shower scene would be longer and more deadly and massive.
