Excellent conversation, Tosai route every time for me, it’s all about the fun of raising them and each time i should get a little better at picking them. Stay safe and well 👍🏻

Your point is good because often I have bet on a really nice koi only to find a crooked fin. For me good skin and color with the potential to grow large . I went to a koi breeder and won $800 dollars at the Craps table when the dealer hear that I went home with 24 fish I made a lot of money off them over the years. I buy a $45 dollar fish and sell it for $400. I have a knack for getting fish over 24 inches. I have one fish I bought at a pet store that is 28 inches and a lousy sanke pattern she’s porcelain white and her red is red spots and black is a Beko pattern. but I love her massive size. My pond is 12 x 24 and shallow.

I’m new to the hobby ( < 2 years ) and the Koi Talk magazine and this channel have been amazing in helping my understanding.

Another great podcast, so true when I visit dealers around the country there is such a wide variety like some fantastic dealers but with my budget some offer too cheap or too expensive with no middle ground of quality tosai. So for me with a budget of around £100 I know there’s a compromise and breeders like Adam Byer / Cuttlebrook suits me that great Japanese parents and my budget goes a long way to getting quality koi without paying the shipping fees etc, I was always must be Japanese but visiting these great places has really opened my eyes to the fact the grade of koi I’m getting would be out of budget if came from Japan. Great what Ricky Is doing with koi wholesale and growing on in uk which helps reducing shipping costs to dealers and customers. Keep up great videos they are really helpful.

Excellent chat once again guys, very informative particularly given my pond rebuild only finished 6 weeks ago and am looking to rebuild my collection on a limited budget (the price of materials for pond builds is horrific at the moment and getting worse)
I've really no option but to go down the Tosai route with the expectation that some of the fish I buy will need to be moved on after a year because they don't match the overall vision of what I'm looking for in my pond.

Size matters at a koi show when you go to a show in America.
