After seeing Audioholics bench test data on the amplification section & preamp in this Onkyo model i had to come back here to rewatch this year old video.
Tell her to just go on Camera and get it over with lol. If she is camera shy and that's an issue why don't she just do practice sessions with you off screen
@@KristiWrightI think it's refreshing actually that you don't want to appear on camera and it shows great integrity, your happy to give your opinion off camera which gives a nice twist to the show, keep doing what your doing fair play
I bought the RZ50 because I've read every reviews on the internet and especially because I watched your very good review of the rz50 a zillion times and I can tell I am just so happpplpy with this unit it's exceptional in movies and music for me it's the best choice for the price... Will pair to klipsh 8000f ii with to 504 center and matching rear surrounds and Atmos speakers in the future.. too expensive all at the same but slowly going there !❤
Thank God someone else saw that! The photo of Kristi for about 5 milliseconds.. also wasn't there a NAIM logo inserted?? Or did I have a 70's flashback?!! Love the channel, thank you both!
Your initial review of the RZ50 was a BIG reason I got it. I needed an HDMI 2.1 capable AVR with pre-outs and room correction. At the time RZ50 was one of the few HDMI 2.1 compatible units available. Sadly my unit has plagued me with issues on top of issues. I’ve taken it to the service center at least 3 times and I have no clue when I’m going to get it back or if the issues have been worked out. It’s been a extremely frustrating… and as much as I love that AVR I’m Not 100% sure I’ll buy another Onkyo. However it is good to know that if I do stay with them and give them one more chance at least the RZ70 still has that sound profile that I like. I was very impressed with the RZ50 (when it works). Glad to know they didn’t neuter it!
Your excellent perspective with a buyer perspective is exactly what most viewers look for and value from reviewers of A/V gear. Thank you both. I agree completely with your recommendations on A/V receivers, as long as the buyer is a HT enthusiast first and two channel listen is a secondary, if at all requirement. For those who value HT and two channel equally (or listen more often to two channel music) their prefered order list will likely change. I've listen to the Marantz 40, and own the Anthem 1140 (Yamaha Aventage in the past as well). I consider the 1140 the best receiver for two channel music listening, the Yamaha RX-A8A second and Marantz 40 third. I can't comment on Sony ES line, Onkyo, Pioneer and Denon as those were pretty poor two channel performers when I became an HT enthusiast in the mid 90's (after already being an avid stereo audiophile since 1979). Consequently they're off my list for consideration. Special thanks to Kristi, who pushes Andrew to deliver on comparisons.
I love the dynamic between you and Kristi in the videos. Sharing our passions with those close to us is a wonderful thing. I really enjoy getting her take to compare with yours, especially when you disagree. Not that I like to hear you argue, but you both explain your point of view so well it makes it easy to understand where both opinions are coming from. That really helps in trying to decide which opinion might be closer to my own when considering a new purchase.
Ok Kristi, I grew up with Onkyo. Nothing wrong with this well developed brand. But, then I replaced my last one in March with my STR AZ5000ES (based on Andrew's review of the 7000ES) and, Holy S**t was it eye opening. I have developed my 'home theater' in my living room based on a compromise with my lovely wife on where the speakers should reside. Definitely not optimal for my 5.1.2 system. My Focals are right and left 80% up attached to the wall. My emotiva surrounds are similarly that high to the left and right of my seated position. My dual centers are above and below the TV so they are fine but my Atmos right and left Klipsch are on a shelf 8 ft high, upside down and standing on their ends so they are aimed mid ceiling in this non traditional placement. Strangly this provides the perfect angle and actually works well. The result with the Sony 5000ES is nothing short of astounding. What I get with 360 SSM is an entire front wall of sound stage unlike anything Onkyo produced. It physically changed and updated my entire system. Surrounds fill the sides and the Atmos heights are dynamic. Switching SSM on then off and back on is like my system wakes up. And putting it in Pure Direct for music is simply mind blowing. Thank you Andrew and Kristi for reviewing the Sony 7000ES. My Sony 5000ES has upgraded my entire system like I did not believe possible.
Rz 50 owner for 2 years . Running JBL studio series 9.2.2 configuration with klipsch subs in a 25z25 recroom. So far so good . and love dirac. Still the most bang for the buck late 2023 going in to 2024.
Do you find that not having independent sub outputs is a big deal? I bought RZ 50 and am struggling with deciding on exchanging for the 70. But from what I've read you can calibrate dual subs without indenpendent outputs without issue?
@breger2323 I have no issues with it not having independent sub outputs. Dirac does take out a lot of bass on the room correction which I understand to some degree. Everything rattles with too much bass unless you have a dedicated built room. I've been in home theater for awhile now. All and all I stand by my statement of best bang for the buck.
Currently running the RZ 50 in 9.2.2. and gotta admit im very happy with it. In my humble opinion the RZ 50 is the best value for the $ . You can add external amps for more power as well as 2 more height channels totaling 11 channels. Bootom line for me is the more i use it the more i like it.
The only snag I found expanding my RZ50 was the external amp for expansion has to run the Left and Right surrounds not the mains. So I’ve now got a dedicated amp running Center and side surrounds when I wanted it to run LCR.
After many hours and research, I ended up going with the RZ50, partially due to your review(before the RZ70 was released), the RZ50 won out over the Marantz for my system...needing 2 extra channels for my 7.1.4 system, I went with an Onkyo M-5010 2 channel for the surround backs(SVS Ultra Surrounds in DUET "mode"), overall, I'm very happy with my decision(s) concerning the entire system, and BIG action movies sound like you're in a theater, not my living room... Once again, great review and thanks for your efforts...
Thanks to this review, the recently released Audioholics bench test and the $500 off sale that is on this weekend I finally pulled the trigger on the RZ70. Looking forward to replacing my TX-NR3007 with it for some updated processing and hopefully a small improvement in sound. 60 lb monster out of my cabinet and trying to get this one in.
I just took delivery of my Sony 85X95L and Sony STR-AZ7000ES 3 weeks ago. I was playing with my tv getting it the way I like that I finally got to calibrating and setting up my Sony receiver. I am coming from a Pioneer Elite SC-99 (the last receiver I consider a true "Pioneer Elite" receiver). I loved my SC-99 but omg I was blown away by the capabilities of the Sony. I mean I felt like I was listening to all new material. Many movies, music, etc. The sheer oomph was mind blowing. As for the surrounds that Kristi was talking about. Sony really upped the information and the space of sound better than what I have ever experienced in the past. Like it is a massive upgrade in how the rear performs. It truly sounds like I'm in a bubble of sound where everything is all around. The most important part of this is that my setup isn't ideal as my rear surrounds are right behind my ears by only a few inches but wide apart because of the layout of the room so they almost look like they are side surrounds but Sony correction has given them a rear image that is very impressive.
Love the new editing style with the added clips from movies, and comic book font. Really adds to my enjoyment. Here's to 10,000 likes so Kristy has to do a video 😊.
I know receiver reviews have to be SO much work, and this one was better than ever. Loving the flashier edit style. Can’t wait for that white noise machine review! 😂
After years lurking, I did finally drink the kool aid and am better for it ( you know what I mean ) … Andrew & Kristi have won me over by their knowledge, fairness dedication, transparency, humility and consistency… I settled on the RZ70 based on their review. I’ve returned to this channel and review to weigh my feelings about my device ( heavy heavy device ) and for some deeper insight now that I’m on the other end the shopping experience and have fiddled with it for awhile. I trust these guys. I will continue to tune in Just for the show … and perhaps far far future purposes. Still trying to find that making of a record album though ; missed the link. Continue being great guys. Thank you.
Onkyo was my first multi-channel A/V receiver purchased in 1993 and I loved it. I have since gone through Marantz 6010, 7010, and 8015. Music is also a key factor and the Marantz sound is best for my room. The Sony is greater at placement but.... I don't live for just 4K movies.
Got an rz50 a few months back when they were on sale. 5.1(2).4 all klipsch. It's great. Dirac can be picky with the subs. Have to turn them way down or Dirac will give an error. But once set, you can turn them back up to fit your taste. Haven't played with the manual adjustments in Dirac yet, but I'm sure I will before long. I love how you can turn up the vocals for movies with no noticeable effect on the rest. It spoils you, especially when you change the mode to one that doesn't support it, like thx. My only gripe is that there is little to no imax content. Yeah disney+ has some....but its only the aspect ratio. Thinner bars on top and bottom......
@@mikeschmidt2339 I'm about 40% music and 60% TV/Movies. I'm very happy with the RZ50. I like both the Sony and Onkyo sound so you probably can't go wrong with either but the RZ50 definitely sure has a lot of bang for the buck. In another room I have the Yamaha TSR-700 (RX-V6A) which I've been OK with (after the firmware updates) but the RZ50 is in a league of it's own.
Great video. Your links are a big help for comparing receivers. I was seriously considering the Marantz Cinema 50, but this video has me leaning more towards the Onkyo RZ50. That's a lot of receiver at a great price and I think it will do everything I want to do. I hope you don't mind me saying I really hope to see Kristi on camera soon. I really liked seeing her in your early videos. I completely understand why Kristi was avoiding the camera during "Pandemicland", but now it's awkward with her being just a voice. I really like and appreciate Kristi's input and she really should appear in the videos. Yeah, that's just my take.
Hello Andrew. Fortunately i have never had stress with my home theatre set up. Because i only watch movies and listen to music, i don't need a receiver. My 200 watt per channel power amplifier, tube line level preamplifier and tube phono stage is all i need for music and movies. When watching movies i insert a small device that gives me a true three dimensional soundstage. This results in musical instruments and other sound sources spread out in a large arc ranging from 45 degrees to 90 degrees. Sound images exist to the left and right, extending well beyond the limits of the loudspeakers and, occasionally, all the way to the extreme left and right.I can perceive a sonic stage depth 10 to 20 feet with sound images clearly "floating" behind and in front of the speakers. I can turn my head and "look" at the sound images and they will not move. Some sound images seem to clearly emerge from outside the walls of the listening room. Dialogue is extremely clear because i am only using 2 speakers. I know you won't respond to this answer, but ,you never know, miracles do happen.
@@aubreylee2787 Oh how we get ripped off in Australia. $2,000 USD on purely currency conversion would be approx $2,600 AUD BUT In Australia the RZ50 costs $2,700 AUD and the RZ70 costs $5,000 AUD Almost double the RZ50 price
Hi I have replace my 2007 7.1 Onkyo av receiver. I watched a host of reviews including your onkyo Rz 50 and rz70. Both sound good but as to the law of diminishing returns the 50 is $2699 and the 70 is $4999 I Australia. So your advice is the 70 twice the value to be worth. I like both my music and movies. Cheers
I admit. I should have listened to your review of the RZ50. which I think is a far better buy than the choice I made buying the Yamaha RX-A6A. the Yamaha loses a lot of power when configured at 5.2.4 or 7.2.4. I ended up adding an external amp which ended up costing more than the Onkyo RZ70. I should have waited for the RZ70.
@@BabyDeer_Red4 Don't get me wrong. The Yamaha RX-A6A is essentially identical to to A8A. Both are high end receivers, Knowing all the features of this receiver can take you at least a year. I would not recommend it for the average user. This receiver is meant for advanced audiophile users. secondly. the Yamaha user manual is not helpful. Yamaha did not bother creating a YT video on either basic/Advanced setup. to me? it seems like overkill. As long as you use 5.2..2 you'll have enough power. but if you want to run the full 9.2 or 11.2 setup you'll definitely need an external amp for the fronts. you can also convert it into a processor. which means you'll need six separate 2-channel amps for every 2-channel output. aside from the sub, to get its full potential. you can have a complete home cinema with some serious power. only if you're willing to invest a lot in high end speakers. even setting up the "Amp assign" is not explained well in the user's manual. if Yamaha had a step by step for each configuration. That would be helpful. I would advise you to have a look at the online user's PDF file before making a purchase. It's an excellent product. but Very complex.
Great review! I have had my eyes on a new receiver since you did the RZ50 but decided to wait for the RZ70, which arrived 3 days ago. It's a really exceptional piece of kit. Blows my old Marantz 7011 out of the water in every aspect (and it should). The dynamics in the sound are insane.
The fact this beast can drive B&W 800 diamond no problem, should make you believe you don’t need anymore power. Love the editing on this review. So many cool little details. Kristi was one of them - blink and you missed it, but I didn’t haha. I used to be highly analytical listener, jeans B&W speakers. But after getting my MLs I definitely have changed and wouldn’t mind a bit more “fun” in the sound or character. This seems to be a good option if Sony sound just isn’t for you. Or Yamaha. Great review. Loved it! Enjoy your day!
Cool. I actually just got the RZ50 today as Amazon has been running an incredible price on it. I have been running CD’s on the Panasonic UB9000 via analog/pure audio mode. I have been very impressed so far. I bet this one with be amazing as well.
I bought the Sony 3000ES connected to the Klipsch Reference Cinema 5.1.4 w/Dolby Atmos all on speaker stands. This system sounds amazing esp after all the measurment inputs and even more after the 360 spatial firmware update.
Ahem... you forgot about Denon x3800/x4800... especially since with Dirac upgrade, 4800 will be very similar in price. And you didn't warn anybody how big physically the 70 is. It's so big it will not fit into my cabinet I think. But great review guys, I enjoyed it very much!
I'm going to start this by saying I have never used separate having said that I do not believe I have ever come across a Commenter on TH-cam, who has not claimed my going separates was not better, rather, they simply added an additional power amp to the receiver or completely, went full, blown separates with processor and power amps Having said that once again for probably 90% or better of people out there a properly set up receiver in most rooms should be plenty, but I am just going on the comments tons of people who have added a separate amplifier to their current receiver, and go yes, it's better than making the jump from that to a processor and separate amps and clean. Their mind was blown on how much better it was just my observation.
Dolby Atmos on Netflix up to 768 kbps. Dolby atmos on UHD Blu-ray. Dolby Atmos averages around 6,000 kbps when a 48kHz sampling rate is used. But Atmos can be encoded losslessly at up to 24-bit/192kHz, which results in bit rates that can soar as high as 18,000 kbps
❤ I’m going to confess that I’ve come to rely on you both as gate keepers… I’ve waited months to get this review. It doesn’t sound as if you are in love with it as much as you were with the RZ50 But the Rz70 doesn’t seem to suck. That’s good. I will look at the 7000es but I feel safe hitting the button on this now. Seems Onkyo is already on a 3 month back up for this thing. Thank you for your reviews and I’m super duper excited to follow your music studio ventures. That’s going to be fun. Take care.
I’ve been enjoying the RZ50 + Emotiva XPA 11 channel using Klipsch RP (I) for a 5.1.4 setup, I don’t think I’ll need to upgrade anytime soon. Nice review, as usual.
Great review! I own an RZ50 and very happy with it's performance. I downsized from a 7.2.4 with a NAD M17v2 pre and a 200lb stack of amplifiers. There is a difference for sure, but the RZ50 is quite close, and a "non HT" person I don't think would hear the difference. Not to mention cost, in Canada the NAD is $10k, plus the $4K plus for amplification. Although I do miss the big set up, The Onkyo really kicks Butt! HT receivers have really come into there own, especially now DIRAC is built in. (1 reason for the NAD) With the RZ50/70, just add speakers, sub and have a near reference set up for a very reasonable price. Cheers!
I love all of your reviews, and really appreciate the quality and art you put into them; you both make an incredible team. My Denon 6700 died after 3.5 years. I picked up an open box Yamaha A8A from my local Best Buy and I've been using it for the last month. Playing movies from my Panasonic 4k player sound AMAZING. Music is alright from the Apple TV. And it's honestly pretty terrible when it comes to watching anything from a streaming service--the audio is just so empty, flat and almost zero surround (it does show Dolby Atmos and I've tested Surround AI, Straight, etc.). I've been debating between the Onkyo RZ70 and the Sony 7000ES. With the recent price cut and their integration with my 7.2.4 Klipsch system , I ordered the Onkyo RZ70 last night. This will be my first time using Dirac, so I'm pretty excited about that. I previously owned an Anthem MRX 1140, so I'm excited to see how all of the room corrections stack up.
Thank you so much for your support. I think the Onkyo is a fabulous receiver. Enjoy getting to know Dirac. At least with the Onkyo, you don't have to pay extra for it!
On a similar vein, in the video you reference the RZ50 as a comparison, but the price drop on the RZ70 puts it in line with the 5000SE, which is quite intriguing. I’m not sure why the RZ70 was so expensive when it seems to be more aligned with the 5000SE. In fact, the Sony has quite a few features that the RZ70 doesn’t have. I’m curious your thoughts between the two, Andrew? I can’t find anything online that directly compares the two. Your reviews of the Sony SE line as well as the RZ70 are glowing, for the most part. The power is slightly down on the Sony, but it seems to be feature Rich. Minus the sub output. Which would you choose? 🙏
As someone who’s been using an Onkyo receiver for over 20 years (TX-NR3007) it sounds like this new RZ70 might be what I’m looking for to get into the modern surround sound era.
you really provide the consumer a wealth of info, good stuff. I trust your reviews even if the specs you talk about won't really effect my abused ears from living through the 80's
Hello! I'm fairly new to this hobby so 90% of what you talk about is still well above my pay grade, but I enjoy watching nonetheless. I appreciate the info and I can't wait to put it to good use one day!

Besides.. its youtube.. we are here to be entertained.. *insert Gladiator scene*.. 100 other 'reviewers' or even the Klippel and Test bench crowd can give us specs and proof.. I'm here for it.
I was waiting for the Sony comparison and that's now what I care about the most about now with AVR's, I've compared Pioneer 505 to my Yamaha A4A and the immersiveness was so much better with Pioneer at the time. Which I assume was the case with the RZ50 since theyre designed by the same engineering group.... ultimately for my next move in AVR im going sony. The surround sound immersiveness is tbe #1 metric in my opinion.
When I saw the Naim logo appear for a split second at 7:45 I laughed out loud. But I assure you Andrew that the fans of my NAP 300 only start when the unit is pretty warm... and then the music is WAAAY too loud for the fan noise to be audible, even from 4 feet away. So I'll keep my Naim separates for stereo (2-channel) listening :)
❤❤❤ The production on this! I came for the gospel according to Andrew and Kristie and spent a lot of time laughing with the humor in the visuals. I felt those punches, bruh. 😂
Was that a consolation prize Kristi when you threw your pic up? Yes it was hard to grab but slowing down the video made it possible to screen grab it and you're still rockin' it woman! Now if we can just get Andrew to let you share your views more and not rib you so much (actually I love the banter) we can hear from the other side of the room. Great job guys, keep it up.
I enjoy your reviews and they were helpful choosing an AV receiver for my daughter and nephew. You review several home theater AV receivers that I would call upper middle market and some of us like to use a separate DAC for two channel music. It is important to know if there is an analog bypass circuit in the receiver so that our high-quality analog signal from our DAC is not digitized. It would be a small addition to your reviews, but I think it should be mentioned whether an analog bypass is present. There are very few AV receivers that have analog bypass, but some of your viewers will find that information important in their decision to buy or not.
One of the biggest I made when I went down the Surround Sound rabbit hole ALL CHANNELS DRIVEN.That will occur rarely and when its does it doesnt require equal power .
Andrew or kristi Can you dive into the sony mapping feature just a little bit more, maybe a bonus chapter in a future review. With this review you suggested that its so powerful because it makes your rear ceiling surrounds act like real ear level rear surrounds rather than being ceiling mounted. So it can map untraditional layouts to the suggested dolby layout. Could you just for experiment purposes place 4 of any speakers ear level, and deactive your ceiling surrounds. So you have the traditional setup, and test out this spatial mapping and see if the effect of it is just as pronounced? Maybe save this for the upcoming integra 8.4 review/ comparison? chapter?
Im not surprised this is a good receiver. I had a TX SR 805B back in the day. Beast. Heavy. Its still functioning as my buddys stereo receiver now. Its sometimes good to be MaxPower78s friend. He ended up with my old polk towers as well🤣🤣🤣
Great job, Andrew. I've watched a lot of your videos lately, and the quality jump from three years ago to now is huge. Really enjoying the content and presentation. 👍
Would consider buying this based on the phenomenal review from Kristi and yourself. It checks all of the boxes for me with one exception.....MQA. We are seeking an all in one box for 2 zone music listening (B&W old 704s inside and B&W 600 outdoor speakers -played simultaneously in good weather). And of course surround for movies. Tidal MQA has become our primary content for music. Maybe I buy this and keep the Bluesound for Tidal MQA support and input digitally unless Onkyo plans it via an update soon? Love the reviews!!!!
Great Review as always. As a RZ50 owner who paid $1399 back in the day (you can get it now pre prime day for $1229), paying over double for a bit more power 120W vs 140W, maybe better processing, 2 more power channels and extra independent sub...not sure it is worth it here if the sound it not all that different. Personally, think they are overcharging at $2799 (and backordered till Sept most places) even if they are the lowest priced of the new 11.2 AVRs with DIRAC included. A RZ50 and a 100W 2ch amp will only be $1400 at most and you get like 85% of a RZ70. Most bang for the buck is important still. The gap at 9.2 vs 11.2 (powered) seem awfully artificial to me here. If the RZ70 was sub $2000, it would be a game changer.
Great stuff Andrew, now to see if I can justify the expense... Over here in the UK, it's over £3000. One thing I thought I'd mention is that when you talk about using the receiver for music, you seem to only consider stereo. An increasing number of us are buying into multi-channel and immersive setups specifically for music and I'd like you to cover the musicality of these receivers when they're being used for immersive audio rather than movies.
Onkyo has the best value when buying used. I just got a TX-NR757 110wx2 7.2 chan for $75 and ordered the Onkyo remote for $12. While not as advanced as my previous RZ830 120w and 9.2 channels...it absolutely fits my 5.1 setup with 2 xtra channels to expand later. While the design is a bit dated and uninspired, it just sounds great with enough power for a large room. I has NO interest in spending more than $400 for a avr let alone the $1500+ these days...
Andrew/Kristi - I recently went to full Emotiva Separates with their new BasX processor, XPA-3 gen 2, and the BasX A7. The one thing that I really love about it is the MASS power on deck. Do you find with these all-in-one units that there are any occasions where you feel a LACK of power, or a desire for more power? PS - GREAT REVIEW!!! Love you guys! Cheers, James :)
I love Emotiva amps and yes, Herculean power on tap has its advantages for sure. But in our room, using speakers like the R11 Metas and B&Ws (+6 surround/atmos speakers) the RZ70 NEVER felt as if it was running out of steam. Even when I hooked up my XPA-11 to the Onkyo's preamp outs, I'm not sure there was a night and day difference in our room and on our speakers.
@@KristiWright That's good to hear. I have never had a high-end AVR, so I don't know but was just curious. And it's a pleasure to support you both and what you do! Cheers, and have a GREAT Sunday.... :)
So true! I sold my Pioneer Elite 503 for $650 and paid $350 for barely used Onkyo RZ830 and loving the new sound! Pioneer's sound was lame and boring and Onkyo is more dynamic and fun. I was not an Onkyo fan until now.
I miss my early 00s 7.1 onkyo for Frys. I purchased a q990b and after 6 months into it, a sound bar is never an option. Im taking out the sound bar with this receiver. I even bought a later'00 onkyo 7.1 receiver for my old video games. I also remember having a 7.1 yamaha receiver that was a new model at the time not pushing my onkyo speakers the same and felt flat. All my research has lead me back to 11 channels being perfect and onkyo having everything thing I need.
It’s a real shame the UK market gets screwed on prices for gear. The rz70 has just landed at an unfathomable £3100($4000us). Still no sign of the Sony ES avr’s either. Sigh.
Here in UK for systems up to 7 channel on a sensible budget it appears you could get a better audio performance going for a modest reciever with signal outputs & adding say an Emotiva A series power amp?
I don't understand the complaints about the Anthem menu. It is very easy to operate with your iphone/ipad. It's nice also is that you can program 4 different soundprofiles and assign them to dozens of your own declared (virtual) channels.. Yes you have to make a shift in thinking but it is powerful!
They finally added a much bigger power transformer. which is critical for either 9.2 or 11.2 channels and above. One of the known ways to tell a good unit from a pro audio unit is by its weight. the RZ70 weight is 48.5 lb / 22 kg. It's supposed to perform far better than its predecessor RZ50 by far. being priced at $2799. although I did not hear it yet. at this price point, I would bet my money on the Yamaha Rx-A6A priced at $2299 or the A8A same price as the RZ70.
I'd like to see a video on an overview of who owns whom and wheher we're buying the same - rebadged ? For example a Yamaha is a Yamaha. But Onkyo and Pioneer have changed ownership. How has that influenced the house sound of these products from the 1990's or early 2000's ?
Sony AZ5000 with a 5.2.4 bouncy house Atmos set up, and you're so right! Compared to my outgoing Yamaha Aventage, it places surround effects so well when using the 360 spatial 🤯
Hello do you get a hissing sound when you activate the 360? It is not noticeable in loud scenes but when the movie goes quiet I can hear it. I turn off 360 and the hissing goes away
After my Marantz 7705 video board went belly up I decided to make my life easier and go with a receiver. My first choice was Anthem 1140 8K. After struggling with all the glitched, mostly video related, I returned it. I then purchased a Marantz Cinema 40. I have a Dish Hopper, Apple TV, Sony 4K disc spinner, & a Bluesound Node 2i hooked to the Marantz. After much fiddling I settled on an Audyssey setting saved to preference 1 for streaming and movies on the Sony 4K disc spinner. For the Hopper, I had to set up a different manual calibrated settings saved to preference 2 and switch between them. Music on the Marantz was and is a total flop. Again after much more setting changes for a Direct stereo only analog signal, same holds true for a digital signal also, from the Bluesound or the Sony music is still only a 6 or 7 out of 10. And this is where the wrench gets tossed into the works. During the Berkshire Hathaway Days, I purchased a Sony 7000 for only 1775.00. Hurried on home and hooked it up. Movies and streaming on the Sony, with the Sony calibration were great, better than the Marantz by a little bit. However, even with different settings I never got as good of sound from the Hopper. Even with different settings saved to different preferences. Soooo, I decided to go with the Marantz and sell or return the Sony. Untill I played some music from Bluesound and CD's on the last night I had the Sony hooked up. Holy cow it was great! Even without any extra effort on my part. I used Direct on the Sony also. Alas what to do? I unhooked the Sony but decided to keep it and have been working with REW and miniDSP to see if I can get the Marantz to sound better. And the Sony remains boxed sitting in the on deck circle. My set up is a 7.3.2 Atmos in my living room, not a treated or seprate thetaer space. Speakers are all Goldenear (2+ fronts, CenterXXL, Sat3 for side and back surrounds, 2 in cieling and a SVS SB-3000 Ultra) So there you have my take on the group of recivers that were suppoe to make my life easier!
Andrew, thank you for all of the incredible content. I just purchased the onkyo RZ 50 solely based on your review. Unfortunately, I failed to purchase through your link. If there is anything that I can do to make sure that you get credit please send me a note and I'll do it. Also purchased the Klipsch 8000f II with 10" sub based solely on your review. I''m willing to call, email whomever to make sure that both brands understand why the purchase happened. Sorry for mishap but willing to correct. Thanks again
High five on the Anthem archaic menu system, and letting Anthem know they really need to fix that garbage. Because damn, their receivers sound quality is superb. If they can make it significantly more user friendly, they could be in the discussion for a LOT more HT buyers. Great review of the RZ70 - which would just be 100% overkill in our room.
I'm not interested about Home Theater, but I still wanted to congratulate both of you for the wonderful review and the fantastic editing! Great job guys!
I have the TX-NR6100 and honestly, I think it's enough for my bedroom, but I wouldn't mind checking out the RZ for my living room, but then I looked at my bank account and decided, I'll play a wait and see aproach. :P

No comparisons with Yamaha??
Any word on a European release on the Sony ES series? Can’t believe it’s a US exclusive at this moment.
whats the power rating on receiver? 945 W or 1095 w?
@@thiagodelgado3128The EU model has 1190W on the tag, on rear side of AVR.
In Australia the RZ50 costs $2,700 AUD and the RZ70 costs $5,000 AUD Almost double the RZ50 price 😭😰
After seeing Audioholics bench test data on the amplification section & preamp in this Onkyo model i had to come back here to rewatch this year old video.
Thank you all for tuning in this morning. I had a lot of fun making this video. Appreciate you watching!

That Kristie flash scared the absolute daylights out of me 😂😂😂😂😂 amazing vid! Great job guys❤
It’s been a extremely frustrating… and as much as I love that AVR I’m
Not 100% sure I’ll buy another Onkyo.
However it is good to know that if I do stay with them and give them one more chance at least the RZ70 still has that sound profile that I like. I was very impressed with the RZ50 (when it works). Glad to know they didn’t neuter it!
The many hours of editing was worth it! Fantastic presentation with an AVR I was very curious about, given it’s predecessor was such a home run. 🤘
Andrew has worked very hard (well harder than usual) on the past few videos so I know he appreciates the acknowledgment!
Appreciate you watching and for sharing your personal thoughts!
😍
I still love my old Onkyo THX receiver. It only has 135 a channel and while playing all my Klipsch speakers sounds amazing!!!
Nice to see that the default display output is now the audio codec instead of the input source that is on the RZ50.
FUN video. Loved all the extra stuff you put into that Andrew. 👍
Just bought one for insane deal $1799 to drive my focal 1028 be , can’t wait to test it out
I have 11' ceilings and the Sony still made my up firing speakers work. They did an excellent job with the mapping.
After years lurking, I did finally drink the kool aid and am better for it ( you know what I mean ) …
Andrew & Kristi have won me over by their knowledge, fairness dedication, transparency, humility and consistency…
I settled on the RZ70 based on their review. I’ve returned to this channel and review to weigh my feelings about my device ( heavy heavy device ) and for some deeper insight now that I’m on the other end the shopping experience and have fiddled with it for awhile.
I trust these guys. I will continue to tune in
Just for the show … and perhaps far far future purposes. Still trying to find that making of a record album though ; missed the link.

Yes, it's gotta do music first, then comes the movies.
Did you try the Sony vs the 8015?
A video that give a big welcome to the impressive RZ70 and long live the RZ50 at the same time. As an RZ50 owner, I can live with that!
I'm looking to buy rz50 have u been happy with yours? 80% movies 20% music and some Nintendo switch ty
running 5.1 upgrading to 5.1.4 or 5.1.2 space issues rz50? good? over sony
@@brecwinchester8487 i think I will get the rz50 no need to spend more money ive seen an Amazon one for 1k
Production is next level on this one. It seems like you had a good time with the review.
We did!
This video took Andrew 3 days to edit so we're so glad you enjoyed it!

Cheers

Thanks for the review! Someone had some fun with the editing on this one. Now I have to go over and throw a like on that Eversolo video.
Glad you enjoyed it
Are you happy with your A6A now with an external amp? I’m a big Yamaha fan and debating the A6 vs RZ70. I think I’ll get an Emotiva Amp regardless
I really appreciate the feedback on the editing V! This receiver absolutely does the B&W's justice. It's SOOOO good!
Cool. I actually just got the RZ50 today as Amazon has been running an incredible price on it. I have been running CD’s on the Panasonic UB9000 via analog/pure audio mode. I have been very impressed so far. I bet this one with be amazing as well.
Unfortunately that sale has ended.
I bought the Sony 3000ES connected to the Klipsch Reference Cinema 5.1.4 w/Dolby Atmos all on speaker stands. This system sounds amazing esp after all the measurment inputs and even more after the 360 spatial firmware update.
Yes and THANK you for the video..Takes me back to Onkyo TX-SR608 I use to have..a 5 star product in it's day.
Ahem... you forgot about Denon x3800/x4800... especially since with Dirac upgrade, 4800 will be very similar in price. And you didn't warn anybody how big physically the 70 is. It's so big it will not fit into my cabinet I think. But great review guys, I enjoyed it very much!
Andrew! Loving the new edit!
RZ50 user. Thank you SO much. Around 10mins was exactly what I needed to know!!!!
Just got Onkyo RZ70 , moved from Anthem MRX 720, Dirac did wonders in my room, movies sounds better now, hope Dirac ART will be released eventually.
You guys rock thanks for this video and efforts.
Hey! Thank you so much! Hope you're having a great day!
❤ I’m going to confess that I’ve come to rely on you both as gate keepers… I’ve waited months to get this review. It doesn’t sound as if you are in love with it as much as you were with the RZ50
But the Rz70 doesn’t seem to suck.
Cheers!
Really appreciate you sharing your personal experience!
@@andrewrobinsonreviews Says a lot about Onkyo as a brand. Plus always a great review!!👍👍
When you mentioned it's 'CLASS AB' amplifier. You got my attention, senses and heart running on 190 bit per a sec ♥️👌
I wasn't expecting the Onkyo RZ70 to be this good, I was waiting for christie to be super analytical 😂 Good review and good on Onkyo.

Enjoying this video by the way! Just not in the market to upgrade my home theater room at this time.
So glad to hear you're enjoying it!
This review felt like it was five Red Bulls in! ⚡️💥😂
Andrew or kristi
Can you dive into the sony mapping feature just a little bit more, maybe a bonus chapter in a future review.
He ended up with my old polk towers as well🤣🤣🤣
I have Onkyo TX-RZ810 and is still rock no need to slightly upgrade
Great job, Andrew. I've watched a lot of your videos lately, and the quality jump from three years ago to now is huge. Really enjoying the content and presentation. 👍
No skipping......great review!
Thank you!
We are all waiting for the Integra 8.4 review!!
Yes
I have one and its amazing! Total powerhouse!
MQA is Fail
Tidal is dropping mqa for flac. Haven't you been paying attention? Mqa is out and tidal is using flac unless they don't have flac and only have mqa.
Finally! been waiting for months
Good comment! Agree! Not to many channels cover multichannel music listening. The sound stage and immersion destroy 2.0 all day long!👍
Onkyo has the best value when buying used.
Not really, no.
Thank you so much for your support!
@@andrewrobinsonreviews Awesome! Thank you for the reply. Thats great to hear.. :)
Love all those pop up graphics and emojis....
I am still loving my Onkyo TX-RZ50. Would love to see your review of the Dune HD Max Vision. Really interested in that one 🍺
Andrew & Kristi,
Another Wonderful review ! Glad my RZ50 is still holding its own. 🤪
Cheers, Eric
@@cizcalodiablopanzon no, I don't notice a hiss 🐍.
The distorted face and voice when you are mocking expected reactions make me laugh every time🙂
“Hallo Dave” in vaguely threatening friendly voice 😅
Speakers are all Goldenear (2+ fronts, CenterXXL, Sat3 for side and back surrounds, 2 in cieling and a SVS SB-3000 Ultra)
So there you have my take on the group of recivers that were suppoe to make my life easier!
Is Onkyo RZ70 capable of driving KEF R3 Meta? Thanks.
Thanks for the review! and... you two are adorable!!!
Thanks that is very kind!
Thank you, guys! You're truly the best! You handle this business like Preachers speaking from the bible...
Oh boy. I guess you meant that as a compliment? 😁
But you didnt use the right mic when you calibrated the pioneer vs the onkyo. Should revisit the 805 and do it right 😊
High five on the Anthem archaic menu system, and letting Anthem know they really need to fix that garbage.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome. Looks like a tank
I have the TX-NR6100 and honestly, I think it's enough for my bedroom, but I wouldn't mind checking out the RZ for my living room, but then I looked at my bank account and decided, I'll play a wait and see aproach. :P
