This was a banger! On the dance floor for years and years... It never was more then a fun happy song to dance to, it wasn’t meant to be listened to back home in the sofa! It was all about party and fun!

YES!! "Sång till friheten" I'm really looking forward to that reaction!😁
Another big song from 1989 is Rob'n'Raz ft Leila K's "Got to get" I recommend you to watch the MV for that one to get that weird nostalgia☺

Great classic. Not all classics are pretentious, have deep lyrics or criticality acclaimed/well received by the music critics 😅 Some are just brilliant music composing/arrangements with gibberish lyrics meant to be pure fun candy pop.
Looking forward to the next one that also is a classic - but on the other side of the classics spectra (a more serious but beautiful folk ballad). 🥰

Well, I try again relentlessly. Please listen to “Swing it, magistern” with Alice Babs. Yes, it’s a really old classic but timeless in many ways. It was a “fuck-you”-song back then, to all the grown-ups for trying to decide what is best for you. Was Alice our first rap-artist? However, I remember some time ago in a night club - a clever DJ played this tune in the middle of the night with the lights pumping. I assure you, everyone was up on the dance floor and I believe the majority of us knew the lyrics as well 😂

Coming from Falun and from the same time as when Troll peaked I love Jimmy Dean! Still, nothing less than a scandal that you got to react to Troll before "Oh Mama" by Lili & Sussie! (No hate lol) Lili & Sussie being much more than just a one hit wonder.

Didn't like it back then, maybe I was to pretentious or something. Now I can see that theese girls were way better role models for other girls, than a lot of other artists. They were not dressed and not dancing in a sexual way, just to attract men. They're just having fun. 🙂

@@martinsv9183 Sounds like a strange reason to me to suggest ”It’s a secret” instead. 🙃 This channel is about Swedish classics and an American who haven’t heard any of the songs - so you really have to set aside your own personal preferences or feelings toward a song and suggest songs that are classics even if you personally have grown tired of them. J hasn’t heard these before and he should hear all the classics himself (and get tired of them himself) - even songs that are so frequently played through the years that some swedes might be tired hearing them 😊
With that said, I LOVE ”It’s a secret” but to me it falls short of qualifing in to being a swedish classic for most swedes.

I'm pretty sure this was the "Summer hit" of -89. Sweden seems to have a summer hit most years, and it tends to be like this song: A catchy upbeat tune that immediately gets stuck in your head, a funny video, and lyrics that won't EVER get the Nobel literature price, usually about how nice the weather is in summer, how good drinks taste on a hot summer day, or about a cute by or girl that just walked by.
OK, I might be dead wrong. Maybe it peaked in the charts in November or so, but my educated guess is that it reached number one in June or July. Vamoz a la playa! (Oops, that was the summer hit of -83)

Seven girls singing only two harmonies. That's the winning concept here. The lower one being not much more than the chord roots, sometimes counterpoint, sometimes at a fifth interval from the lead. Totally awesome chorus topline.
Also the lyrics seem weirdly up to date. When this came out and I was a kid, I thought it was about the actor James Dean literally. Strange to be neighbours with a dead guy. But now I hear it like a straight up metaphor. Instead of saying he looks like Brad Pitt (or whoever is hot now), or he's cute like Brad Pitt, you just say he's Brad Pitt.
    Tell us what you mean!
    He's Jimmy Dean.
Per Gessle has nothing on that. 🙂
And I agree with others here, please react to Swing it Magistern by Alice Babs, and Gräsänkling Blues by Povel Ramel.

They wrote music to many Swedish artist (some of them where: Tommy Nilsson, Agneta Fältskog, Ankie Bagger, Barbados, Jerry Williams, Lili & Susie, Secret service)
Some of my favourite songs they wrote are:
    Tommy Nilsson - en dag
Tone Norum & Tommy Nilsson - Allt som jag känner

@@JonathanRollinssthlm305 James Byron Dean (February 8, 1931 - September 30, 1955) was an American actor. He is remembered as a cultural icon of teenage disillusionment and social estrangement, as expressed in the title of his most celebrated film, Rebel Without a Cause (1955), in which he starred as troubled teenager Jim Stark. The other two roles that defined his stardom were loner Cal Trask in East of Eden (1955) and surly ranch hand Jett Rink in Giant (1956).
After his death in a car crash on September 30, 1955, Dean became the first actor to receive a posthumous Academy Award nomination for Best Actor for his role in East of Eden. Upon receiving a second nomination for his role in Giant the following year, Dean became the only actor to have had two posthumous acting nominations. In 1999, the American Film Institute ranked him the 18th best male movie star of Golden Age Hollywood in AFI's 100 Years...100 Stars list.
