Great honest review…. Made the mistake on first mower but this sounds spot on - may have to take the plunge - excellent video and advice for us growing business - cheers
Great video. I’ve got a 2015 HRX537, this will be its ninth season, it still looks like new and runs absolutely flawlessly, wish I could say the same about my Stihl FS55R trimmer but that’s another story. I only change the oil at the start of spring every year, clean the deck after use and blow the air filter out every so often/replace when needed. A few years ago we moved and the new lawn is small (about the size of the first lawn in your video). So I have been thinking about getting a smaller mower but I think that’ll be a bit silly as I’ll be lucky to get €600 for this so I would be essentially paying to down grade my mower.
Brilliant review Rob! You're good for sharpening your blades every 4 weeks and cleaning the bags out, that's something I always leave until it's too late 😂 but I'm still a hayter fan lol
replace the machine. gearboxes last time i checked were upwards of £300. if your box starts to go or if only 1 wheel turns there a few common problems and easy fixes you can make. i keep the old ones as donors, the engines are bulletproof and can be swapped if req (handy if your workers hit a drain or cut washing line pole😑)
Just dawned on me... when we but them new the exhaust bolts are taken out and dippes in copper grease then put back in What happens is the vibration and heat causes the bolts to seize and eventually break. Doing this gives you a chance
Great mowers very reliable and cut well even when the grass is wet. We have just got a big Honda commercial roller mower, yes its heavy Ive got scaffold boards to put it in the van. well pleased with it though
I can see that you been looking after that mower, it looks like new 👍👍 I own the Stihl 7 series lawnmower and it's the best mower I've ever had. Yes is a bit heavy and couldn't ever lift it but goes in the side door of my van comfortably. I do like the mulching sliding door on your Honda mower. What a fantastic feature. 👏 I found it hard to decide if it was really a good mower as I noticed that you went over the same patch of grass 3 times!! And to add you trimmed after you mowed. I strim first, mower once and then blow. Don't want to be wasting time. I've just subscribed and looking forward to new videos. 😀 Cheers
You've kept that in good condition fair play, gave up on them due to the collection issue as it's often wet in our area. I could make it work but the lads would struggle with it. In the wet try and unclip the top small sections on the bag and it'll help with the airflow. Nice to be back on the lawns👌
Great vid Rob. I bought HRX 537 last year, I was using a an Izy but after getting a school contract I needed a bigger mower. I am very impressed with the HRX 537, big enough but not too big to hamper mobility and so much faster than my old Izy. So many great features like the blade brake which saves on stopping and starting and the simple mulching system. I bought a Scarifier blade online to put on my old Izy and it was brilliant. Like a mower blade but with 2 replaceable spring prongs on the ends. Worked better than the petrol Scarifier I hired last year.
A great honest review Rob. My dad is in his 7th year with his Honda and its cut a lot of grass and he's not the best on keeping up the maintenance on it.
Hi Rob - good review. I’m looking at one of these. Got a Hayter 56 at the moment and roll that up a board to get into back of van. How do you get the Honda in and out of van?

I am considering buying a Honda HRX 537 for my grass cutting business but I have a question about the weight, the Honda website states 44kg but I have a pickup truck, so need to be able to lift the mower to just under chest height, would you say that would be easy enough given the weight of this mower? Thanks!
Hi Rob Tipping it down this morning in North Notts so I’m taking to the keyboard rather than the new HRX I picked up a couple of weeks ago. The dealer says this is normal but I’ve never had a mower which feels like this unless something is not tightened up right. You’ve obviously had yours a while, what’s your experience with the handles on yours if you don’t mind? Regards Rich
Hi Rob. About to buy this mower on Tuesday. Totally agree with you. Ive been using a Hayter and It diesnt pick up great anymore and tired of doing the stripes lol. Need a bish bash bosh mower to get in and out as quick as I can. You said it doesnt cut as good in the wet. Any advice on that. Would it be better to mulch. Does it handle better. The Hrx537 has a good reputation. I was offered 1 by a customer moving house. I was the only 1 that had ever used it tbh. Hi Rob, do you have the HRX 537 VY or HY? I am really struggling to find out which is the better model, or even what the difference is other than a little weight and height difference.
I have the hy. The variable speed with the orange handle. I found it simple to control the speed of the mower using the single lever. I hope that helps.
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices Thanks Rob, yeh that makes sense. Sometimes newer technology isn’t necessarily better. I like the idea of setting the speed with a lever. HY it is, thanks Rob!
Hi mate, fellow gardener on the isle of wight here, I'm looking at this mower but the plastic deck worries me, do you still have it and how has it held up going in and out of the van all the time?
After watching this, iam thinking about buying one. The half mulch half bag option coupled with the bag being 85l, must mean you save time emptying the bag as much? Only thing putting me off is the height adjusters being on the wheels, much prefer a single handle lever. What other mowers do you have now rob? Apart from this and the stihl 655
Good vid Rob. I agree, cuts among the best but nowhere near the best for wet grass collection. Question, Why do you cut the grass then strim, then cut the grass again? Double the work is it not? Strim, blow and mow gets the exact same results in a more efficient way. Just asking, that's what I do, maybe there's a reason for it.
Great review Rob thankyou for this! Intresting about the mulching i actually had no idea why it was needed but makes sense now. I've been looking at the VY version, did you look at that one, how come you went for yours and not the VY? I'm yet to look at one in person but looking to buy this week. So any extra advice would be super, thanks Rob. Perhaps you know the difference between yours and the VY? Sam
Thanks for watching and your comment. The vy has a handle that controls speed. The more you press the faster it gets. You can easily push too hard and off it goes. My version has like a gear system 1 to 6. 1 being slow 6 being fast. So simple to use. All the best.

Hi Rob I started following you a few weeks back, great channel. I only own a domestic electric mower but always wanted a petrol one and never got round to it, you touched on maintenance and I am curious. Does the new e10 fuel grade make any difference to engine/carbs extra maintenance etc? Do you add any additives to your fuel?
Personally loving the ego mower at the moment. I’ve got their range of other stuff so made sense for me. Light weight and folds up like a suitcase for carrying into awkward gardens
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices I agree Rob. Well, for mowers anyway. There okay for a domestic user who cuts there one garden once a week / fortnight. But strimmers, hedge cutters, pole saws etc. No problem at all with battery for the commercial user. Its early days yet. But so far. I'm loving my new EGO battery strimmer. Lightweight and powerful.
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices As always. It's different strokes for different folks. My EGO strimmer cost £259 and extra battery cost £90. So equivalent to what my Honda 4 stroke strimmer cost me. I'd say they have about the same power and then there is a saving on petrol. Which currently is the highest price its ever been. Battery power machines are much lighter. Which is handy for me right now. But there is no one perfect tool for everyone. Each has its own for and against. Personal choice at the end of the day. 👍
I hope it serves you well Gary. Once my petrol stihl equipment gives up the go, I will look at battery equipment. Fingers crossed that with be a few years down the track.
The Honda bag need cleaned for the air flow to lift the grass. In the wet they seam to clog easily. But they are a great mower just keep going.get well soon man all the best
Hi, for flat terrain is good most of movers but try to select a strong and reliable one for hilly terrain. Most of them have low power engine, small wheels without traction and are very heavy :-(
That mower will last longer than you'll be wanting to push it up and down gardens. Honda are built to last. From there plastic decks to there brilliant engines! Plus there twin blade system is great. But personally I'm the world's biggest Weibang fan. I've got the 22" shaft drive. There is NOTHING it won't cut and bag well. In any weather. But she's a heavy old girl. Very heavy! But it's self drive so that's not a consideration for me. Oh. I've also dipped my toe in the dark side. Battery equipment. And bought myself an Ego battery strimmer. Much lighter than my Honda petrol strimmer. But with all the power . Ideal when your nursing a broken wrist!
Mine was worked hard and cost £250ish to get it straight at the start of each season. Good versatile light weight mower though and lasted me 3 seasons before it went to it's second owner👍
When I went self employed 10 years ago, I bought a Mountfield sp 505r powered by Honda. It was a fantastic machine! However after 9 years of use, I decided to buy a new mower. So, I bought the new version thinking it must be at least as good as the old one. Big mistake! Height adjuster is fitted incorrectly in the factory, first 5 settings are unusable, first 2 are underground! Mountfield and Stiga washed their hands of it and basically said tuff shit! As did the dealer I bought it from. Would never touch their equipment again! Absolutely disgraceful company, cost me £900 too! 😡
That’s horrendous, their stupid mistake. Now I won’t buy from them. How many other people have you told that story to. Thanks for watching and your comment. 👍🏻
@@maxwellsgrasscuttingservices I trash them on social media for a while! If it was some cheap crap from B&Q I could kind of understand it! Have a great season chap and stay safe!
Mower blades should be sharp, but they do not need to be as sharp as a razor blade. When you touch the blade, you should not cut your hand. That way, they will cut the grass seamlessly and have a clean cut. Very sharp blades will get dull quickly and need to be sharpened much more often, shortening the blade life

Thanks Marcus. Appreciate your comment.
I do love my Honda, but the only downside I find is the non-foldable handle. I have limited storage and it's tricky.
Thanks for watching and your comment Jackie. This Honda does have a folding handle. 👍🏻
Mine has folding handle , undo the two handle knobs , pop handles out the variable height holes n fold over top of mower
Hi, for flat terrain is good most of movers but try to select a strong and reliable one for hilly terrain. Most of them have low power engine, small wheels without traction and are very heavy :-(
Thanks for the tips!
Thanks for watching and your comment Gary. All the best with your recovery.
Good job mate it's a nice mower, but I do like the mountfields 👍
Thanks for watching and your comment Jake. I like the mountfields too. All the best.
Hope you all feel better soon. I have a Stihl 248RM and it bags up nicely, just starting out soon, will keep you posted Rob
Stihl RM 248 petrol push four

Good luck with your business. All the best.

@22:30 “Dry as a bone” 😂. Dude, bones aren’t necessarily dry, just sayin 😉
Thanks for your review 👍🏻
Good to know! 👍🏻
Hi Rob. Thanks for this review, it looks a great work tool👍. What is a fair price for a machine like this to be serviced? Keep up the great work bud.
It’s costs £90 for a quality service. All the best.
Mine was worked hard and cost £250ish to get it straight at the start of each season. Good versatile light weight mower though and lasted me 3 seasons before it went to it's second owner👍
i will stick with etesia, excellent on wet grass.o and my webb mowers, mulch brilliantly

Really not rely
You too. All the best.
Mower blades should be sharp, but they do not need to be as sharp as a razor blade. When you touch the blade, you should not cut your hand. That way, they will cut the grass seamlessly and have a clean cut. Very sharp blades will get dull quickly and need to be sharpened much more often, shortening the blade life
Thanks for the feedback, always appreciated. 👍🏻
WHY THE VERY LOUD CRAPPY MUSIC ?
You could always turn it down.
I will try and select another song.👍🏻
