Thank you Mike, very informative as usual, surprised by the basket for the handbag!
As a retired bar manager, the issue with gentlemen entering the bar/restaurant without a top was one of my top hates,in as much I had a board by the doors requesting they put a top on before entering!

Sobre mesa! I love it. Also, why do so many men on holiday think it is acceptable to sit topless in a restaurant 🤔. Such bad manners. Keep up the good work. I am loving these little gems on local Lanzarote life. Can't wait to live there in the next few years.

16:05 good video. Wasn't aware of handbags etiquette. Appropriately dressed quite universal in most countries

Thanks for this. The only one I was surprised about was the basket for the handbag, a fantastic gesture.

Love your videos! Your weekly news videos are phenomenal and your information videos are very very good.
Can we have a Q+A video? And a background video of your story about your time in Lanzarote

I quite like the idea of a Q and A video, Darren. Not sure on the one about our time in Lanzarote - it would be very, very long, and the channel is all about the island, rather than about us. 😄

The information about women's handbags was the interesting one, although we've not experienced it. Otherwise hearing all your etiquette tips explains a lot about what we have experienced and it was all useful, thanks.

Thank you very much! It's a bit like in Germany. Only that the handbag gets a chair was new to me. Is the bread still charged extra? In Germany, it's included. "The bill please" is something we can say in Spanish after several vacations on Lanzarote.

Always be aware of handbags they are easily kicked away this used to happen alot abroad all so walking road side were they have had a bag snatched in busy areas don't here much of this here thou love the island been going since 1993 thank you for the video Mike

  •  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Great video Mike, could you do a video with simple terms we can use in Spain e.g. good morning/afternoon, please, thank you etc ? , it’ll be out first time in Lanzerote , we’ve learnt some phrases from holidays in Greece and want to try some in Spanish when we come over August.

I was surprised about the handbags. In the 15 years we are visiting Lanzarote I never knew....

  •  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

I am from Lanzarote. Please note you don’t have to explain why you are not leaving a tip. Tipping is not part of our culture and it is not expected so it is fine not to tip at all. It is of course appreciated, who doesn’t like extra cash. Up to the customer. It is fine to leave and say thank you, the food was lovely and have a good day. Being polite and respectful is greatly appreciated.
Not wearing clothing in a restaurant is just inappropriate anywhere in the world regardless of the heat.

Hi Mike. My partner & I are coming out again to Lanzarote in October to look at property & wondered if it was possible to meet up at some point as we have too many questions to ask on your platform. Please advise. Many thanks. Gary.

Samir who runs Jardin tropical in Charco del Palo always gets tipped very well and she doesn't object if you arrive topless (or bottomless) for that matter😁 we obviously always sit on towels which is standard naturist etiquette.

    @paulwitts9976 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

You’re correct in saying that most of it is common sense and etiquette but that seems to be a rare commodity. Just because they’re on holiday why would people think it acceptable to enter restaurants or shops half undressed, it’s just bad manners.

Handbags - we were in a shop on the strip recently and bought some coasters, when we paid we were given something that looked like a very ornate padlock. When we finally worked out what it was for it was a handbag hook!!! Keep on about the dress code - what is it about overweight, balding middle aged men that think it’s ok to get sweaty and then go and sit in a bar/cafe/restaurant. Don’t get me wrong I do sometimes take my shirt off when I’m walking along the beach side of the strip in PdC but I always put it back on if I cross over to the shops and ALWAYS wear a top in a cafe/bar or a restaurant.

The handbag one was new to me. The rest are just good behaviour - something that is sadly lacking in some and give the British abroad a bad name.

Good points, particularly the clothing, but I disagree about the tips. I witnessed a lady sit wearing an expensive dress only to find she had sun-cream and sweat stains on her outfit when she left her seat. She insisted the restaurant pay for dry cleaning. Also like other parts of the world, rent, food and other expenses have risen tremendously in Lanzarote, but wages haven't risen enough and locals are struggling. That's why I always tip for good service..... not the quality of the food. The responsibility of the food is the owners and any complaints should be shared with him first and not social media. Thanks for that informative video.
