Just spent an entire day changing internally routed cables&housing followed by adjusting front and rear derailleurs and THIS is what youtube serves me as a reward.
Release cable,set parameters of the derailleur using the high and low screws,screw barrel adjuster all the way in ,then back off two turns,rejoin cable then trim with barrel adjuster.
I just tried to do that today on a crappy cheap bike I had that seemed to enjoy 7th gear a little too much. Needless to say it isn't a whole lot better, and now 7th isn't even an option lmao
@@danagibbs3265 that sounds like it could also be a shifter cable tension issue. Shift to the smallest gear, and adjust the high limit screw. Then shift all the way up to the largest gear, and adjust the low limit screw. If it’s not shifting quickly and you really have to push the shifter far to get the next gear, the problem could be that the cable tension is too loose.
@@lucasblanchard47 I tried adjusting the cable, limit screws and even tension screw multiple times at both ends. Honestly it looked crooked so I was trying to see if that was the issue. Originally it worked fine then one day it just gave up and I'm not sure what caused it.
Mt gears sound like they just fell off a bike rack on a highway going 80+mph (That just happened but just the rim derailleurs and the tire need to be replaced)
This could be a lot of things. Most of the time it’s the tension of the cable loosening over time. But it could also be your derailleur hanger got bent or the derailleur cage got bent.
It's SRAM that's all I needed to know. Be happy it switches gears without breaking. Ok I'm a little harsh but for me its either Shimano or SRAM X01 or XX1.
I have a 1998 Mercedes bike with its original 26 year-old Shimano seven speed shifter. It sounds like this the highest gear I can get it into fourth but only if I don’t push it, it will not jump teeth in fourth gear but even still I can’t tell if I’m even in fourth gear because the dial the gear dial on the Shimano shifter itself is out of alignment with the actual gear selector you turn with your hand so could be in Gear for all I know 12 and three gear work good but fourth gear is a solid maybe if I don’t push it to hard and make it skip teeth in the gear I’ve been told it’s something internally wrong with my Shimano shifter, and it can’t be rebuilt by the Bike Shop but I’m not sure just in case I did go ahead and get a new Shimano seven speed gear shifter that’s exactly identical to the one that’s on the bike. I just don’t know if that’s the problem or not or if it’s just some simple adjustment that I could do or some oil or something because I don’t really want this one until I know it’s not out of adjustment as this bike has been moved from house to house a lot, but I took it for its most recent service to get a tuneup done on it and that still hasn’t fixed the problem so I’m wondering if maybe it’s the actual shifter itself what does anyone think let me know oh and fourth gear is the highest gear I can go. I don’t know if I mentioned that I can’t get the fifth gear six gear or seventh just one through four but four is a suggestion at the moment
And here im complaining about the minimal noise from my 250 dollar ozark trail g.1 after having it perfectly silent for 10 miles in almost every gear. I must be better at tuning than I think.
OMG how is it so cheap Writing from Russia, it's like $1000 in here for such a bike. Mine was $300 in 2019 and it comes with cheapest steel frame possible, bulk bearings, 3x6 SunRun drive train and gripshifters And yeah most parts deassembled themselves (while commuting) long ago so now it's mostly Shimano tourney and chinese parts, like, I changed EVERYTHING but frame and rims making it basically the same as $500 bikes in local shops
Mate, can you refurbish my bike as it has things to repair, I’ll pay for stuff that needs to replace plus £500 for you, if that’s okay with you. Id be willing to go anywhere to get this bike fixed.
It seems like we may be a bit far away but id tune your bike up for 500 labor and you covering the parts! Maybe you should call your local bike shop though bro, I think where I am the shops charge about 100 US$ to tune up your bike
Fixing your own technical fault is always the best because you’ll learn from mistake and it’s fun and also you don’t want to spend $100-$200 every time you go to a bike mechanic unless you’re a sponsored rider and already have a designated mechanic.

Nope.. I bought a Huffy.. Had Huffy bikes as a kid. Bought one recently as an adult.. Never heard that sound in my life. That only happens to expensive delicate bicycles. Huffy bikes are built like tanks. Huffy has bicycles down to a science they've been making them so long. Now all these new companies are trying to reinvent the wheel and charging you insane amounts for it.. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Then put into lowest gear (biggest cog) and use the b screw to adjust the chain to cog clearance,6mm ish.
