Way too long of a comment based on 10 seconds of this vod, but about 1-2 years ago in AZ we had a player for the DBacks named Seth Beer. Every time the man batted the entire crowd would get on their feet and chant “BEER BEER BEER!!” at the top of their lungs.
First game of the season, and the game was a snorer until the 9th inning. Dbacks get a few guys on and here comes the Beer man. Crowd is insatiable. This man proceeded to hit a walk off 3 run home run on NATIONAL BEER DAY (yes real) and the entire audience lost their shit.

I loved the time MTG didn't have the "we must powercreep every set" issue so they decided to give it to themselves on purpose by printing Modern Horizon sets
eh... power creep was always in the game, there are plenty of videos comparing old decks to new ones even before modern horizons, and with only a few exceptions the newer decks tend to just outclass old stuff. the power creep of mtg is just more manageable theoretically because the format that used to see most of the design effort was rotating and so could (and did) have sets printed specifically to be bad by design and bring the power level back down.
the real problem is that the game isn't being designed to be competitive anymore, it's being designed for commander, because that's where the money is.
modern horizons is only a symptom of the catastrophic screw up that is F.I.R.E. design in general, and notably things have been a bit better as of late... unfinity only introduced one broken card into legacy (it should have been none but let's ignore that) and LotR and MH2 weren't *_as_* format warping for modern as MH1 was
WotC be like "well if we cant hard force rotation in our eternal formats we'll just power creep the shit out of them and thats basically like rotation". I stopped playing like months ago but I assume their still suffering from FIRE card design since the sets are made well in advance.

Magic's biggest issue was deciding to monetize commander as much as they have, and I don't say this as someone who inherently hates commander, I've been playing commander for nearly 15 years. The issue is they used to print a commander product every 2 years planned to be cycled with other casual focused products, then it became every year replacing other casual focused sets, then every set had to have some degree of commander in mind when being designed, and now it's just every set has to have a commander product tied directly to it. It's just too much, it hurts design, bloats the sets, and makes determining legality a mess. This wasn't an issue in 2015 and we had the same amount of supported formats as we do now minus one, and that one followed the exact path Modern followed for growing as a format and would have had no issue either without the over-monetization of commander. Now you need a spreadsheet just to keep track of what is allowed where from a standard pack.

Wait YGO Worlds is non spectator event now thats wild. Worlds should be like a yearly huge celebration of the game. Like MTG's World Championships i think used to have a side event Grand Prix (those were the high level tournaments you hit up around the year to get a chance to be in the WC's) that you could register for that ran parallel to the main event if you just wanted to be at the event but didnt qualify for it iirc. Konami just seems to hate their TCG player base from what it seems like.

When you're first, you sit behind The Arrival with hopefully enough disruption to make it to Turn 3 to OTK them with Accesscode Talker, when you're going second, just OTK them with Accesscode. The deck is still working on trying to find it's way though because it suffered big time after Mathmech Circular was banned.

It's kind of funny that shifting card design to cater directly to commander hurt every format *including* commander.
@tinfoilslacks3750 the funny thing is that a lot of Arena nerds love playing standard they just can't play paper standard because rotation is way too delayed there's way too much product making it hell because sets don't stay on the printer very long and all the eternal formats sans commander don't get preconstructed decks (if they are going to have standard rotation be several years a pre-constructed deck or two sounds amazing to keep prices down)

Regarding the whole MtG debacle, it's the other side of the "Konami of America never changes it's distribution model" coin. Changing a distribution model is going to cause more chaos than just keeing the old pack structure, which was still confusing.
At least the bad products are being cancelled instead of going into stores. I'd be happy if Konami canceled the rest of the Legendary Duelist sets and just threw the cards already made into some random set instead of whatever F-Tier archetype they were planning on making.

@@TCG9777 YGO players dont care but staying in your own bubble (like farfa who just refuses to acknowledge that MTG is a card game even those it has existed longer than he's been alive) is always a terrible thing in card games. YGO players are just like komoney TCG where they live in their own bubble not aware of anything outside of their world (like other card games and the OCG) then just it around and continue to wonder why their game sucks ass when they can just quit and go do something else with their time like play another card game.
mtg booster problem is being overblown.

Lets go back to DUNE/AGOV format and say that. It was really cool having just an absolute ton of viable decks, and not the tier 0 mess we have now. I kinda hope that format eventually becomes a followed retro format like Goat, Edison, and TOSS.
I love when people talk about how they want YGO to have lot official formats. I feel like it would just be the same issue I see with mtg (where I live) minus maybe 2 people. Everyone I know who plays MTG only plays commander. I know a lot of people who just don’t like the other formats.
@@sun332s7 I think a lot if it has to do with what the LGS supports. One LGS I used to go to would actively support Standard and modern, so everyone had a Standard, Modern, and Commander deck. The store event did an I think monthly legacy event, so some people even had those decks (forgive if the frequency was different, it's been like a decade or more since those events ended).
Another would have days dedicated to Commander and then FNM would alternate Standard and Modern and have draft as an alternate option, as well once Pioneer started there was discussion about that entering the cycle, until COVID hit. So you would get a lot of people with Commander decks that also overlapped with having at least one of the other formats. Hell, we even had a nice little Oathbreaker group forming for a bit and that wasn't even officially recognized at the time.
Of course if an LGS only supports Commander, people won't bother making anything but Commander, especially if there aren't a lot of LGS options for people to choose from in the area. If that happens then it would take a strong grassroots effort from the players to get anything more going on at the store.

MBT got out of MTG at the right time imo. I think he got out in 2017? And 2018 is when WOTC started to ramp up the amount of sets per year.
Edit: I stopped playing EDH because of the amount of new cards being added into the game. As soon as I got a deck exactly where I wanted it, I was already like 5 sets behind.
The beautfy of commander is that you really don't need to get a new card in each set, very rarely is their something useful in each set. Maybe once ever 4-5 sets their is a single bit of support, but that's just like yugioh. I've had a cycling deck for years and ever few sets their will be some random cycling support that is good enough to replace an older card

I left Yugioh for good at the beginning of 2023 for MTG and it was the best decision I ever made. There's *actual counterplay* and games last longer than 3 turns. I was watching some Vintage gameplay recently and I was blown away by (a) how similar it was to Yugioh (free countermagic, turn 1 and turn 2 wins, etc) and (b) how *terrible* it is! Brawl/Commander is literally everything I ever wanted in a TCG I don't know how I endured Gouki Extra Link format when this existed
The switch from Yugioh the MTG have been a blessing for me. I don't care about the goofy universes beyond stuff I will be playing with a deck that has Ellie and Alan from Jurrasic park as its commander and I wont be stopped, this shit is just too fun
Man you have absolutely shit taste in games if you definition of enjoyable gameplay is Commander. 100 card singleton is inherently terrible due to the variance and how many power cards are in the Format. Furthermnore there are exactly 2 kinds of Commander games. Either people win on turn 3 with an uninteractive combo or you spend 2-3 hours watching people vomit empty value onto the board without a single wincon in sight.

Vintage definitely is not for everyone, but what makes commander playable is not the actual format it is rule 0s and agreeing that you don’t want to play against land destruction.deck or similar things .
As a mtg player, this is becoming a joke. I liked when they had regular commons, uncommons, rares, mythics, and foils. I cannot understand the need to have 5 or 6 different versions of a single card. Wtaf is the purpose? I hate it so much.
the 5 or 6 versions of the same card are here to appel to collectors and people who want to bling out their cards a lot of this is just alt arts you don't have to buy.
@@jmanwild87Collectors and blingers aren't enough to give these cards value. The most in demand copies of most cards that see play are normal non-foils because they look normal and don't have the WotC foil taco curse.
@@jmanwild87 If they are already trying to appeal to collectors, the least WotC could do is at least give them a little "sorry, we have to take something from you in exchange" and get rid of the damn Reserve List. I don't care if my duals and Diamond drop, let Legacy be a supportable format.
@@DualSwordBesken the reason they don't do that is because of the potential legal ramifications. Sure the reserve list isn't a contract but people could call promissory estoppel and potentially treat it like one and wotc gets their pants sued off.
@@jmanwild87 I've seen that claim, but I've also seen people claim it wouldn't hold up in any court. I've also seen the claim that the amount WotC/Hasbro would make would outweigh any possible costs they'd get hit with in a legal battle. I'd say unless a confirmed lawyer weighs in, it's all speculation at this point.
