- A few years ago, Noah and the Whale would have seemed like the last band to bring a drum machine to a Tiny Desk Concert. But here, the London band plugs in -- and sweet simplicity still reigns.
Set List:
"L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N."
"Blue Skies"
"Waiting For My Chance To Come"

Ive always loved Noah and the Whale, but their album The First Day of Spring, especially Blue Skies, got me through a breakup. Will always hold a special place.
It was same for me. It was a very painful separation but helped me unsderstand my emotions. For 5 years my door was open but I understood I had to let go to keep on living.
I'm in this boat right now. Really hurts. Taking it day by day. NATW helps.
Album was an absolute masterpiece. It's so forgotten about, sadly.
NATW got me through some of the toughest times I’ve had and I seriously thank their existence for me still being here
Last Night on Earth was that album for me!
Got me through the break up, through the recovery, and straight into my next relationship, who now 10 years later is my wife!
I have alot of memories of listening to their music. Nostalgia
They both look like they're genuinely enjoying themselves. Especially the guy on the violin, always smiling. So adorable.
I just love the tiny smile of the guy with the violin
noah and the whale....u guys don't know how much ur songs mean to me.
it's been a while. and when I saw ur face here I instantly started to cry.
thank you for filling in wholly some of the greatest moments in my yesteryears.
really . ur soul of despair is is the sweetest sound to be surrounded with.
Noah and the whale are way underrated!!
Their first album, Peaceful, the World Lays Me Down is about falling in love
First Days of Spring is about that love breaking
and Last Night on Earth is about moving on.
I'm a sucker for heartbreak, so First Days of Spring is always going to be my favorite, but it's only as good as it is because it's the second act in an amazing trilogy. Deliberate or not.
And the quality of their musical skill really went from 0 to 100 between the first and second album ❤
So many memories with their beautiful songs…💙
this is such a perfect tiny desk... i loved Noah and the Whale's music as a teen but this is the performance I come back to time and time again. It feels so good.
his voice is so effortless
They are ADORABLE. Great vocals and instrumentals. I cant believe I haven't head of them before!?! God where have I been? way too underrated
they were big ages go because of 5 years time
Check out their La Blogotheque/Take Away Shows...3 in total. Solid stuff!
Gordon Welsh that’s what got me into them ❤️
Watching this again after a while and it's great see how the excitement on the violinists face during the first song.
came here to say how much i miss this guys. the songs live on! and as they said, those performances live and will never grow old. lots of love, wherever they are.
Anyone here in 2024?
Me
God I missed them… where are they now? What happened to them?
2024..
Just for the first song.
Yep……
Aaawwwww!! I LOVE that he did "Instrumental II" as the lead-in to "Blue Skies." :)
I doubt anyone noticed
+Aaron Folkard Probably not. And Charlie probably thought nothing of it. But there are those of us who appreciate such nuggets of beauty, my pessimistic friend.
i love this band so much. they got me through college.
Katie Hughes same 😂
Hope they’ll do the same for me
His voice is absolutely lovely.
reallllllllllllly wanted 5 years time, but this still kicks hard

Visiting Richmond Virginia. This song helps navigate old memories.
I love you guys. Thank you for everything. I wish I could have you perform at my wedding in Brazil next year, but one way or another we’ll have your music there. Thanks again.
Thank you NPR Tiny Desk for introducing me to this spectacular band! My fragmented soul needed some defragmentation, and this suited the job well.
Fragile yet solid as a freakin' rock
Beautiful...young delicious flavor...Fantastic Live in 2009, sweet days of spring!!!
This was my first time hearing Blue Skies and it made me bawl my eyes out. I've been suffering from depression for so long now it feels unending but blue skies are coming... But I know it's hard. Beautiful.
Hang in there. You are not alone. Blue skies.
@@saltairswings Thank you for your kind reply. This made me tear up.
@Jenny Griffin 🙂
@@7hecrows Me too. I have found the right medication for me and have been enjoying a season of stability since November. I am so grateful to be enjoying the sun and the blue skies once again. How about you?
@Steven Bennett I'm indeed still enjoying blue skies since going on medication in November. I see my brilliant counsellor once a month and am 'doing the work' to undo decades of negative thinking. Are you enjoying blue skies, Steven? I love this community that this beautiful song has created.
I'm a strings nerd, so I love the violin! It's one thing to listen to the gorgeousness on the CD, but it's another thing to fan girl over watching it in a video! :P
Absolute awesomeness 😊❤️🎶☀️
No negativity. These guys are grand(:
I've spend all night watching videos of them live. And they are amazing every time!
I like this concert and the drum machine does not degrade it in the least in my opinion. If you listened to the album it is Pop-esque and the drum machine lends itself to that for a two man "acoustic" show.
I like all three songs although I feel “Blue Skies” is a masterpiece and hits me it the feels
It’s great to see Tom (violinist) playing with Gang of Youths nowadays, he did great work on their last album
I love Noah and the whale! I miss them❤️
Awesome! Wow, his voice is so solid. Really amazing music :)
If I hadn't already found the one, I'd say I fell in love with the face behind the guitar!
Timeless, who else is still listening in 2021?
How about 2024?
seeing how much Tom's career has changed but that even in Gang of Youths he's still playing that violin makes me so happy
Absolutely beautiful...loved it!

Nothing but nostalgia.
They are so good looking!!
adore you guys
These guys man ❤️ So talented it really tugs on the heart strings.
Simply beautiful
Yes, the violin and a fiddle is the same instrument, though sometimes (not always) fiddle players alter their bridge, making it more flat to play chords easier, I've never seen it but read it somewhere.
BIG love.. miss you guys
There is something do pure about their music
Your so welcome... Its amazing!!!
They love what they do, and that's what wonderful about them :)
oh i miss them ):
miss them saw them at Warwick Uni brilliant band
The way Tom smiles during the chorus is what music is all about.
wow i didnt not expect him to sing like that but his voice is definitely nice .new band to listen to
Musical Poets......love you guys
Completely agree! First song it's beautiful but that beat-machine totally kills it!
🔥🔥

Thank you so much I have been wanting to learn that for a long time.
Lol which one is noah and which one is the whale
jackbaradog matt owens the lead singer is nicknamed urbyy the whale.
it would be unrealistic to bring a whale to the office. they'll be no room plus it would be dead from suffocation so wouldn't make any noise
The Idiot Gamer actually the lead singer is called Charlie fink, urby the whale isn't present in the performance.
Ahhh damn my sarcasm has failed me lol
The Idiot Gamer haha nah pal, I see what You did, Hey have you heard that Charlie fink is releasing a solo album? I literally just found out so I've been listening to some good ol NATW to bring back some old memories
Brill I'll keep an eye out cheers. His performance on npr was so effortless.. I didn't mind them on their album but they shine live.
The MOST beautiful rendition of Blue Skies that's out there.
"On my last night on Earth, I'll pay a high price
To have no regrets and be done with my life" . That might be my thought in my early youth as I would remember. That might describe what I've become. (Extremely aware of reality and doing what I'm supposed to do)
how i love this 2 guys!
loving thier hair!
makes me so happy and relaxed
I wana cry!! l.i.f.e.g.o.e.s.o.n EPICNESS!

I LOVE NOAH AND THE WHALE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Band announced their break-up on April Fool's Day and I guess the joke was on me because I've never gotten over it.
I for one was glad to hear he was alright after Ben Stiller got his head trapped in that vice. Life goes on indeed.
Absolutely amazing
love these guys
with a lot of The Kinks for flavor
so good, thank you!
Drum machines are great! They show up to gigs on time...
...and sober.
I miss them...
