I saw someone describe the finale as "unloving to its own show" and those are really the only words I think perfectly sum up this last episode and season. The whole episode felt incredibly rushed, there's so many loose ends, so many questions, so much nonsense. They added new characters every season and especially on this last one we had SO many of them and they were basically useless. You have an incredible core cast and you barely made them interact. Sandra and Jodie's chemistry is off the charts and you only put them together on the last episode?? I wasn't expecting them to get together from the start of S4, but literally waiting for the last 30 minutes of the whole show?? We've been talking about The Twelve since the beginning and we were all expecting a big reveal only for the writers to have Villanelle kill them in 20 seconds and we still don't even know who they are; why did Carolyn kill Villanelle and whose side is she on; what did Konstantin's letter say; who killed Kenny...
And don't get me started on Laura Neal and the stuff she's been saying on interviews... Calling Eve's scream as a "rebirth" only shows that she doesn't understand the character AT ALL. The director calling the scream "a scream of survival" and that it's like saying "I survived. I've got a new life"... those were their exact words. I don't think a single person that's been watching the show since the beginning would say that Eve's scream felt hopeful or like a rebirth as they said, it felt heartbreaking and chilling (and i'm so so glad Sandra decided to do it like that). And also the writing team uploading stories of them taking shots every time someone insults them... it all feels incredibly disrespectful. That "the end" card felt like a slap on the face too.
I don't know, I'm so angry and disappointed. They literally had two years to think about the ending only to give us the worst option they could go with, it all feels incredibly lazy. I think that for a show that always took pride in doing the unexpected, they literally went with the most cliché ending. Nothing will top season 1 for me, but I never expected to feel so let down with this episode.
All my love for the cast though, they were all incredibly talented and acted the shit out of those crappy scripts. I'm just very sad that instead of going for the more interesting route of having a character like Eve, who has been learning to embrace her darkness for four seasons, and a character like Villanelle, who has always been told she was a monster but then found a woman who truly loves her and makes her feel that she is indeed lovable, end up together and explore that weird and original dynamic, they chose to do what everyone else does, the "bad guy" dies, their lover suffers for the rest of their life...

I loved this analysis and thoughts- I totally agree with you on every point. It’s very sad how they decided to end this- one twitter search or wattpad search would have given them a perfect ending to go off on ( or as one tweet said: THE BOOK ITS SUPPOSED TO BE MADE OFF) I’ve yet to watch the interviews but from what you have briefly said about it , I don’t think I want to watch it.
I’m REALLY trying to not let the final ruin killing eve but the more that gets released/ spoken about, it’s getting harder to stay on board with the writing and season 4 in general.
Thank you for this great comment. I love hearing thoughts and opinions, especially when it’s stuff I didn’t even know about! :)

I completely agree with everything you said. To me, Eve’s scream was the scream of someone who has literally nothing left, having just lost the only person that’s ever understood her. It actually feels quite homophobic that they did the whole cat and mouse thing for 3 whole seasons and then also way into s4 between these 2 women that had such palpable chemistry got to kiss. It got tired! By season 4, Eve and Villanelle had both become so similar that I don’t think it would’ve been unrealistic to give them a happy ending. And even if they did have to die, couldn’t it have at least been together so one doesn’t have to live without the other? it just hurts that they gave us 20 minutes of true Villaneve before they destroyed them.

    • @StaceyStaser

I totally agree with your mom that the season had been getting better.
Carolyn, cold heartedly pretending she and Villanelle we're buddies, when she must have already arranged for the sniper. Carolyn and I are no longer friends.
People have commented that the 12 took a long time to realize that Helene was dead. I doubt that. And I think Carolyn sent Eve the message with the change of venue.
Earlier we were told that the 12 were so hard to crack because they were broken down into cells, and the cells didn't meet. So what were they doing all together on the boat? And with almost no security? And none of them armed?
At least now we have a textbook example of how to take a supremely talented cast and yet produce a terrible show.

I choose to believe it ended with their kiss. I’m so tired of this trope, it’s mentally & physically exhausting. Have they learned nothing from Lexa? It’s been 6 fuckin’ years now, I still haven’t recovered & I don’t think I ever will. As if it wasn’t traumatizing enough with Clexa, now again with Villanelle & Eve? Script/screen writers, please stop telling LGBTQ+ characters that they’re not worthy of happiness unless it ends with a bullet in their backs. And to the Killing Eve writers, we all need to sit down & have a nice long discussion about #buryyourgays & why it needs to stop.

This is the first time seeing your videos and I think yours is my favorite reaction video. Also, your mom is beyond precious! I feel the same as you. I felt utterly betrayed and angry for the first week. I do feel like we, along with Sandra and Jodie, deserved better, but I’ve come to terms with it and it won’t ruin me being able to watch it in the future. I’ll still love watching it bc Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer are so good in it.

Just found this, loved your reaction! I went through a whoooole range of emotions before I gathered my thoughts on this! I love that you and your mom watched this together, so nice! It’s interesting to see lists of different reactions and options. Different things bothered different people it seems. I really just tried to take it for whatever it was going to be at this point. I knew the 12 plot wasn’t going to be addressed well and I didn’t expect much on that front. I felt like I got a tiny taste of something that could have been and then have it brutally ripped away. Totally wrecked me, which I expected and was actually objectively pleased with, until I took a step back. An interesting quote from Phoebe Waller Bridge (I’m not sure of the context): “every moment in this show exists so that these two women end up alone in a room together. really it would be a betrayal to the audience if they don’t come together in the end.”

I was so chocked at the end just like everyone, that's was the most hearbreaking final after watching them finaly being happy and being their true selfs. Both of them evolved during 4 seasons, espacially during this one, they fought their fears, they found peace being who they were, and when I think about it, what made them running away from each other constantly was because they couldn't face the fact that they were, for each other, the part of their soul they feared most. Eve couldn't handle her "dark side" and Vil couldn't handle the good feelings Eve made her feel according to the way they both were raised; but at the end the fact they finally stop running away , accepting each other and loving each other was the proof they were in peace with themself, free from their conditioning.
The only psycho was Carolyne ! I mean every characters show us their vulnerable part ( Konstantin death was heartbreaking) but Carolyne, as she said, doesn't want to deal with emotions, she's afraid of it.
That's so sad for her, that's sad Vil died, she didn't deserved this, neither Eve, but at least the tow of them found and gained something Carolyne won't ever find.
Sorry for my english, I hope this will be understandable XD

The finale struck me as incomplete compared to the books. There are also so many other small hints that seem to have a double meaning. In S1E6, when the Mandalay team prepared Villanelle for the Aaron Peel undercover mission, Villanelle seemed to have a eureka moment. Her facial expression alone -- something between amused and astonished. She asked Carolyn, with what for her was an unusually reverential, almost submissive tone "You are the real Boss, aren't you?" Carolyn confirms "Yes, I am." V goes all big eyes and smile and Eve is seemingly clueless about what is going on. Now: V already knew who Carolyn officially was, and she wasn't the Big Boss of MI6. Carolyn tried to recruit her in that prison in Moscow. In later seasons we learn that Carolyn had known (possibly "chosen"?) Villanelle when she still was in the orphanage at only age 9 and that it was Carolyn herself who had baptized the subversive group "The Twelve". Yes -- Carolyn did infiltrate the group under cover to spy on them for MI6, but then her spymaster father was murdered (or forced to commit suicide) for being gay, and some switch might have flipped in her, illustrated by the scene where she encourages the fledgling Twelve to trash her father's luxurious house, like trashing her past. In the books was a similar charakter playing a double game, a Russian general, using Villanelle and Eve to gain immense power of global reach. I think in the series Carolyn represents that charakter. She is in control now of the power and resources of The Twelve. If the show would parallel the books, Villanelle's death would be an elaborate illusion and Carolyn would allow the two to re-unite after a while and have a more or less normal life together, somewhere far away, with new identities... which is, after all, how the books end...
