Keep in mind that the 80's came after the 70's when a ton of legitamate cult-related killings happened like the Manson Family Murders and the Jonestown Massacre so it makes sense why Jason believed that Hellfire was a cult but not necessarily a cult that could do supernatural stuff until after he saw Patrick's body crumple itself in midair." No. But in his mind, he's hunting down a murderer and fighting people protecting the murderer and getting in the way of the truth, which has a negative impact on public safety. Just swap "Edward MUNSON" for "Charles MANSON." This isn't that different from what a character like Jim Hopper or Matt Murdock does. Heck, it's not that different than Nancy Wheeler either. It's just about perspective. But it's still vigilantism gone wrong. Also, Jason only started calling Eddie a "freak" after Eddie came after him and publicly bullied him in the cafeteria. Eddie pesecutes people for beig mainstream, so it's the pot calling the kettle black. Then all of a sudden, Chrissy's dead body is found in Eddie's trailer. . . While misguided, Jason's understandably angry after being deliberately instigated. Finally, we have no reason o believe Jason would be linked to "hate crimes," since he has no scenes displaying prejudice based on race, ethnicity, sex, or sexual preference.
@@ditto9174 The d&d thing was out of hand but Vecna made Patrick fly up the air and killed him like he killed Chrissy. And they were both near e Eddie.
fr he just wants revenge and to protect his town. would have been cool if he lived the whole season and chase hellfire and at the end or something help and sacrifice for something small and maybe live.
It is similar. The main difference is Gaston was always a dick who was loved by the town. Jason was by all accounts a pretty good guy who let grief, anger, and misinformation turn him into a vengeful murderer. He's more like Prince Charming if the Princess was killed and he swore revenge.
I really loved Jason’s deterioration arc. He doesn’t start out as either a villain or as a hero (just a popular jock who’s devastated over the death of his girlfriend) but slowly he becomes more desperate and violent as the situation escalates until he becomes a character you love to hate at the end.
He doesn't become a character I love to hate at all It makes me question the mindset of the core characters, That they left him to believe whatever he wanted to, After he had seen the supernatural events. Everything he did made sense given his knowledge base. The core characters on the other hand... Less easily dismissible. when you stack up his care towards the wellbeing of his community, And their introverted, and ultimately damaging demeanor for the town they live in, I cant fault Jason
Jason actions are completely logical, his girlfriend was murdered in Eddie's house, Eddie fled and never answered questions (rightly so). Jason then goes looking for Eddie because the police wont talk to him or explain anything. He finds Eddie and his friend dies in front of him by some diabolical shit that he has no knowledge, just like Chrissy did, and Eddie runs away again. From our perspective he is wrong because we know about Vecna and upside world, he doesnt, he is only looking for justice.
@Mr Lee it’s understandable because of the conclusions he drew from what he saw but how he’s handling it is destructive not only to him but to the people around him, my man out here like Batman beating dudes asses to get information lol then he convinced not only the police but the people that some freshman nerds are in a satanic cult because they play a board game(yes I understand satanic panic in the 80s) so yeah I understand how he feels but I don’t agree with how he’s handling it, just my opinion
@Mr Lee tbh the cops can't really confirm that Eddie Munson is guilty. They just said he's the person of interest at he's been at the scene of both crimes.
Really the only thing I can fault Jason on is him believing that d&d has connections to satan, because he heard that it messes with people thinking with fiction and reality. And also is willing to launch a mob to find Eddie and the the gang who are part of the club, talking about deals with satan and such. I know this is back then, but still cmon.
Who can blame Jason for thinking what he thought? after all the weird shit that happens in Hawkins and rumours of a girl able to control things with her mind? Jason good at pep talking too
I know right plus this references Satanic Panic, something going on in the 80s. He probably had ultra religious parents like mine and fell easily and really quickly after the traumatic death of your girlfriend to fear and went with this as some sort of closure. Unfortunately he was wayy off the mark, and he doesn't have the luxury of knowing what we the viewers already know.
Me: "Pfft, it's not a Satanic cult, you idiots. How gullible can you be? Obviously, it's a sorcerer from a parallel universe who was at one time a murderous test subject in a secret lab run by the government. Anyone can see that."
Feel bad for Jason, he was told his girlfriend died when buying drugs from a creep and watched his best friend die to Vecna in a mysterious way, what he did was completely logical
Yh. He was a hit arrogant and narcissistic, but besides that he's actually OK and his arrogance and narcissism makes sense in the face of what's happened.
Your making it sound like the drugs Eddie gave her killed her and secondly, Chrissy ask Eddie for help not the other way around. Plus, how is selling drug to make money makes you a creep, I mean I get that is wrong but not everyone who sales drugs are creeping and weird man.
Jason probably gets a lot of hate but I like him. He's a genuinely good guy. He's just lost his girlfriend and best friend in a very traumatic, horrifying way and he's on a vengeful quest purely out of grief and passion for the people he's lost. Yes, he's obviously misguided but I admire his loyalty and genuine remorse.
I wouldn't say he is a good guy. Considering the fact in his speech he made in the beginning, he made the speech of the people who died at the mall about basketball, which is very insensitive to the family and friends who had ppl who died in the mall. However, his action towards Eddie is understandable since he was there when his gf and best friend died.
@@sailorsister211 So because of this he's not a good guy? Yeesh lol You basically have to be perfect nowadays to be good. How about it makes him a human being?? 🤔 And quite frankly people do this thing all the time. When tragedy happens, people gather together for sports. I remember when the Boston Marathon happened. David Ortiz came out and talked about the tragedy and then said we're going to play this game in honor of them.
@@notane.real1 He's not blinded. If we didn't know everything we did about Hawkins, we would be thinking the same thing. All the pieces fit together. Besides the freaking police said that Eddie was the main suspect, so it's not like there's no justifiable cause.

Which is sad haha I can't wait for the day where there's a breaking news story that Keanu Reeves once stole a candy bar when he was 9 and suddenly he'll be cancelled lol Because if you're not perfect that means you're not a good person.
Honestly, I can sympathize with Jason. He lost his girlfriend and is probably the most terrified he’s ever been in his life, it makes sense for him to try to get justice since he is a very emotional teenager who’s experiencing a lot of grief and anxiety. As much as he’s portrayed as a villain or a bad guy on the surface (going against the protagonists) he’s actually not that bad
so in a show where a creature can kill people from another dimension people think he's crazy because he believes that some kids are doing satanic rituals? His actions are wrong but not illogical. He lost his girlfriend, saw his friend die in a gruesome matter. He's actually quite rational considering the things he's been through
He always hated Eddie he is just using this opportunity to finally have an excuse to kill him, that's what you're not getting he's the bad guy because bad ppl use their personal prejudice as a weapon of hate and then will wait to find just one thing their target does to justify a future hate crime basically. You justifying him and his mindset is close to Nazi logic: Anyone who's different deserves to be prosecuted.
@@professionalpizzaconsumer5419 I know that. The comments I'm pointing out are coming from viewers who say it's ridiculous to think that kids are doing satanic rituals in a sciencefiction show
I feel like Jason wants to do good but his actions are HORRIBLE Jason can’t use violence and quote scriptures from the Bible as justification for the violent hate acts especially on innocent people Edit - at the same time I get it, Jason is coming from a place of rage after losing two people he cared for. His anger is blinding him from common sense
fair enough, but you have to keep in mind he as a side character cannot know as much as the audience concerning vecna. in his perspective, at this point he is fully convinced he holds enough evidence to pin it on eddie, given him being the prime suspect for chrissy's death. suspicions which are later reinforced by jason seeing patrick contorted to death just as he has his prime suspect cornered. until that point, he was not fully persuaded that the cult killings were in any way infatuated with the supernatural, simply that they were occurring and needed to be stopped as he stated. this is prior to him quite literally witnessing his friend levitate out the water and watch his body implode. given all the context before the 80s of satanic panic and all the cult-related killings that occurred like the manson family murders and the jonestown massacre, its not as if his resort to biblical imagery is completely unfounded. admittedly he still remains a very flawed character, holding a knight templar complex and inadvertently due to his misunderstanding becomes an anti-villain aswell as being highly impulsive. this only opens him up greatly to further development potential.
@@Mrspiderman20014 If someone you loved was just murdered and you were convinced you knew who the killer and desperately trying to find him you'd probably do the same thing.

@@itsasquid the issue is he does not know it was vecna he has no idea that the upside down exists and this is the best explanation he can come up with.

Honestly the jocks really aren’t bad their just doing what they think is right like the OG gang only difference is the OG gang knows what they do and the Jocks don’t know wth is going on but they think they do.
Except for the fact you don’t firm a vigilante group with tire irons etc to beat the crap out of a suspect of a horrific crime. That’s what vigilante criminals do and is no way acceptable anywhere any time. You can’t just assault ppl and seek so called justice
There’s a difference between ppl criticising Jason for being clean cut nice looking popular Christian who they despise (coz they’re freaks and don’t like ppl like him), and those who can say - well these actions he’s taking with physical assault and wide assumptions aren’t appropriate. Albeit with much of his reasoning reasonable
I get that his girlfriend and best friend were murdered, but there is no justifying what he tried to do. He literally tried to kill someone younger and weaker than him, had one of his goons go after an *11* year old, and trying to send a mob after Eddie, an innocent person who is just as terrified? Fuck no, I don't feel bad for him in the slightest, plus I also found him annoying lmao. Before anyone comes at me, this is just my opinion and how I view it, you don't have to agree with me! If you like Jason that's ok too, there's nothing wrong with liking characters like him, he just simply wasn't my cup of tea.
I see a lot of people trying to defend Jason. First of all I think what he does is absolutely horrific and cannot be justified. Yes, I do get that he lost his girlfriend and his best friend in a horrific way but cmon trespassing into someone else's property and beating them up because they're friends with Eddie, planning assaults on people younger than him and getting the whole town to turn their back on Eddie just because of his biased reason is absolutely wrong. I think when we get to this point of the show where he's doing the speech, we can start to see that he's just doing this for the hate of Eddie rather than for his 2 lost ones. In fact, can we even question if Jason is a nice person in general because the fact that we don't see any in depth scenes where Jason and Chrissy are together as a couple and the fact that Chrissy went to Eddie instead of Jason left me thinking if Jason is actually a nice person in the inside in general although he is nice on the outside perspective of himself before Chrissy gets killed.

It's not like hearing them out would be easy, I honestly don't blame his distrust on Lucas in general because to him, Lucas already betrayed him by siding with Eddie, who's literally the main suspect or person of interest within his girlfriend's case. No one even bothered to tell him what was happening, and when Lucas was finally gonna try to explain what's happening around, he was already batshit crazy by then. He was deteriorating in general, I don't even think that the cast can be excused from this, he's already devastated and clueless enough, cult activities are the closest thing to what you can think of what's logical enough for what happened to Chrissy, let alone her death taking place on an outcast's house who runs a club called Hellfire Club.

Jason looks slightly deranged and unhinged in this scene. understandable given he had seen how Patrick died and didn't have a way to explain it. still. i think his growing mental instability is what will make him do some truly villainous deeds in volume 2
I’d was a little worried about Erica’s involvement at the press conference with her Parents like but thank god she’d stood by her ground by calling them out for being dumbasses about hellfire club
The whole Chrissy ordeal I can understand why it changed jason and made him begin to seek vengeance for the girl he was in love with. But after watching Patrick die and clearly seeing Eddie had nothing to do with it honestly I believe he’s just dumb for still being convinced that it’s still Eddie and hellfire behind it all. jason kind of reminds me of george from of mice of men. he hates someone who is different, then the person he hates accidentally does something bad or is in the wrong place at the wrong time, and george/jason say or think they have a reason to hurt or kill the person they hate. and they care more about attacking the person they hate than how much they are sad about the death of the person they love (btw jason isnt nearly as bad as george from of mice and men. i recommend reading/watching of mice of men as it is one of the best movies/books ever)
How on earth was George bad in Of Mice and Men? I think you are getting him confused with Curley, he's the guy who wanted to kill Lennie to "avenge" his wife.
Jason is probably the character I’ve hated the most in the entire series of stranger things. Dude uses tragedies like students death as fuel for stupid motivational speeches that serve his selfish desires. Even when he saw Eddie being just as freaked out as he was when his friend got possessed by Vecna, he convinced himself Eddie is a tool of the devil to take over Hawkins. I could see him having a future as a sleazy hypocritical pastor who preaches about evil stuff he does behind closed doors or motivational speakers that says bullshit to sell books and courses.
I mean if you put yourself in his place you would think the same thing and want revenge because a guy killed you girlfriend. He was slowly going crazy at this point tho.

People need to understand that Jason is actually not that bad of a guy. He was just misguided. Caleb McLaughlin even said this in an interview. The only reason why people hate Jason's character and think he's a bad guy is just because he was trying to stop the main characters. I found out people have been giving death threats to Jason's actor just because of what his characters did. The actor only did what he was told for the story of the show. Don't get me wrong. I was somewhat satisfied to see Lucas fight Jason and see Jason's death. But I also feel bad for Jason. Jason was victim himself. His girlfriend died. His friend died. He just wasn't understanding what was really going on. If we were watching this show for the first time and only watched it in Jason's perspective, we probably would've been rooting for him. I just wish that Jason learned that Lucas was telling him the truth in the final episode of this season. That Eddie really was innocent and that Eddie was Chrissy's friend. That Chrissy really was buying drugs. That Hellfire has nothing to do with Vecna's kills. If he found out that Lucas was telling the truth, Jason could've became a helpful character in this series. Take Steve for example. In season 1, he was hated. But then he started helping out and became a lovable character. People were afraid that Steve would die in this season. If Jason got a similar character arc, people would be hoping that he wouldn't die either. If Jason continued on, I'm sure he would've went to the hospital with Lucas for support after what happened to Max. Jason would even apologize for everything. Jason would even feel bad for accusing Eddie. It would've even been nice to see Jason tell Eddie he's sorry and is willing to help him. Eddie could've even told Jason about how he used to know Chrissy in middle school and how he managed to make Chrissy laugh earlier the day before she died. Heck, it would've been nice for Jason to sacrifice himself to save Eddie. I feel like that if Jason lived, he would've helped clear the group's names. Telling Hawkins that he was wrong about Hellfire and they didn't do anything wrong. If he got to meet Eleven, I'm sure he would say "So you're the supergirl they've been telling me about". And imagine Jason confronting Vecna. Vecna could've said to Jason "You are weak... just like Chrissy", and this would cause Jason to lose his shit and attack. Bottom line is, if all of this happened, I think Jason could've became a helpful character in season 5. I just feel bad that he died not believing in the truth and thinking the main characters were evil.
yall are really losing it. yes, jason was partially justified in trying to avenge chrissy, but assaulting a child? assaulting the hellfire club? holding lucas at gunpoint and trying to choke him to death? that had nothing to do with chrissy anymore. that was just pure rage and pure hatred towards someone ( eddie ) that he visibly hated for being different. and ngl, we all know what he would've done with eddie had he found him. Should he resort to violence against normal folks? No.
Then all of a sudden, Chrissy's dead body is found in Eddie's trailer. . .

@Mr Lee how is it not logical considering that majority of hawkins doesn’t know about the upside down
Really the only thing I can fault Jason on is him believing that d&d has connections to satan, because he heard that it messes with people thinking with fiction and reality.
Jason good at pep talking too

fair enough, but you have to keep in mind he as a side character cannot know as much as the audience concerning vecna. in his perspective, at this point he is fully convinced he holds enough evidence to pin it on eddie, given him being the prime suspect for chrissy's death. suspicions which are later reinforced by jason seeing patrick contorted to death just as he has his prime suspect cornered. until that point, he was not fully persuaded that the cult killings were in any way infatuated with the supernatural, simply that they were occurring and needed to be stopped as he stated. this is prior to him quite literally witnessing his friend levitate out the water and watch his body implode. given all the context before the 80s of satanic panic and all the cult-related killings that occurred like the manson family murders and the jonestown massacre, its not as if his resort to biblical imagery is completely unfounded. admittedly he still remains a very flawed character, holding a knight templar complex and inadvertently due to his misunderstanding becomes an anti-villain aswell as being highly impulsive. this only opens him up greatly to further development potential.

Never hit me til this scene that everything that happened before this never went public.

I hope for them to clear Eddie's name they either have the government frame it on Jason and he goes insane in the insane asylum. Or have the whole world find out that monster and dimensions exist.
My brother made a theory that the finale will have the US and Russian Army team up to invade the Upside Down so the last one is plausible….now I’m just imagining the Battle Of Umbara from Clone Wars.
Dang why do people hate Jason so much .
@@wyatt2918 he's annoying
@@ditto9174 how
@HypahBOMB he is also not shown a mean beforehand the worst thing he does is call eddie a prick after eddie insults his sport.
"we're not killers like eddie" and yet the dude and his friends buy knives, crowbars, baseball bats.
This guy gives some mad speeches, making Me wanna join their gang hahahahah
Jason was honestly scarier than Vecna.
CONFIRMED! The Daily Bugle in Spider Man: No Way Home is a CULT!
I don’t care what anybody says! Regardless of how hurt Jason really was, I still think he took it very far!
say what you want but he’s bloody gorgeous
From where I come from, Jason should be arrested for inciting a mob.
I agree. After watching this, Jason has really snapped. He's either gonna get killed or end up at Pennhurst. That's what I think.
@@philipdr88 We'll see what happens. If he gets hunted by Vecna or something, he's gonna pay.
People like Jason are never held accountable for their actions.
"How do you expect to stop the devil if you don't believe he's real?"
Jason is being overly ridiculed IMO.
As someone else wrote: "When you read about the actual Satanic Panic in the 80's and what the general public believed Satanic Cults were doing, it's frighteningly similar to what Jason, his goons, and the rest of the townspeople in Hawkins believed. The only difference is that the people of Hawkins have seen genuinely weird stuff happen in their town while in real life back in the 80's, people believed this stuff based purely on their fear with barely any evidence. People legitimately believed that Satanic cults were kidnapping and performing magic spells/ blood sacrifices with children.
Keep in mind that the 80's came after the 70's when a ton of legitamate cult-related killings happened like the Manson Family Murders and the Jonestown Massacre so it makes sense why Jason believed that Hellfire was a cult but not necessarily a cult that could do supernatural stuff until after he saw Patrick's body crumple itself in midair."
Should he resort to violence against normal folks? No. But in his mind, he's hunting down a murderer and fighting people protecting the murderer and getting in the way of the truth, which has a negative impact on public safety. Just swap "Edward MUNSON" for "Charles MANSON." This isn't that different from what a character like Matt Murdock does.
@@jlk6916 Quit pasting the same comment over and over again. We get it. You like Jason. But he’s snapped. He’s no longer doing this for Chrissy. He’s doing this for himself.
I know it wouldn't make sense, but I would have loved for Hopper to show up and not just surprise everyone that he's alive, but tear into everyone who dares to hunt down the Hellfire club. Especially since that includes Dustin, Mike and Lucas who Hopper would of course be extra protective of.
I want him to beat up Jason but good thing his dead
That Jason guy is nuts he just wants to hurt somebody just for a girl.

I just want to know where the fuck Jason's parents are.
Most of the way Jason behaved was pretty reasonable, given the circumstances and his lack of insider knowledge. But the one thing I can't forgive him for is turning the town's tragic deaths from season 3 into a goddamn championship game speech.
Bruh.... none of this would've happened under Hopper's watch. He would've kicked that kid's ass
NGL if I didn't know what was really going on in Hawkins, I'd be hyped to join him too 😂😂
Only if hopper was there as the chief bro wouldn’t even be able to step forward

Tbh I know he’s the antagonist. But without proper context and under those circumstances, I would’ve done the same things.
Hellfire club trying to save Hawkins from evil
Jason: tries to save Hawkins from evil by attacking the Hellfire club 😂
Villains are justified, I have to admire Jason for his pride and patriotism for his hometown
If you don’t know the full reasoning, then yeah.
Roman's 12.21 do not be overcome with evil but overcome evil with good
I see a lot of people defending Jason..... no. He's awful. He's an awful, awful, awful person. Even if you don't blame him for getting mad because he thinks Eddie killed Chrissy, nothing else he does is OK. He's an antagonist.
Antagonist has nothing to do with evil. In a bank robber film, the antagonists are often the police And where is Jason a terrible human being? Does he do exactly what the main characters do? How little empathy do you have?
@@truthhahn8238 Well, antagonists aren't necessarily evil, but in a show like this, the antagonists are either evil or very close to evil. Jason is a terrible human being because he has intent to hurt people and has hurt people and is now encouraging other morons to do the same. And empathy isn't really apart of this, at least not on a real world level because it's fiction. It's not real. It is a fictional television series. Don't take it so seriously. And I've seen you replying to a bunch of other comments in the same way. Why are you like this? It's not real. These characters are not real.
@@hoztoventertainment5297
According to logic, you are not allowed to discuss math word problems because the examples are not real.
Your arguments are bad.
Steve was also an antagonist and not evil either. Where did Jason hurt other people? Are you confusing him with Angela? How can he lack empathy when he's constantly speaking to your teammates' and the townsfolk's feelings? He has worked to make Lucas comfortable with the gang and has assured him that even if he doesn't help with the quest, he'll still be one of them. In the 7 episodes I can't see where Jason is supposed to be a horrible person because he reflects the stereotype of a strict son and dutiful student.
