As usual when I need wisdom about God's word I turn to Pastor Guzik and I'm glad I did this morning because he made quite clear the doctrine of election. Many thanks.

16“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. 17“For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. 18“He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3: 16- 18

David clearly said that God did not prepare anyone for destruction….man prepares his own destruction. Good prepared hell for the devil and his angels. Man chose the path of damnation for himself and no one can lay it at Gods feet. This is what I heard. God chose Jacob regarding the covenant not Esau. Yet that didn’t mean he was not blessed or that he was rejected in the life after death.

You said some good things in terms of God having a plan but completely missed the point of this chapter. It is by faith, not pedigree or works. God elected Israel to be the vessel through which His plan would come. Please do a more careful study of this. This is not about God choosing individuals, but chose Israel. They objected Him including the Gentiles, but He said He will have mercy on who He wants. Please study more carefully

9:10 Not only that, but Rebekah’s children were conceived at the same time by our father Isaac. 11 Yet, before the twins were born or had done anything good or bad-in order that God’s purpose in election might stand: 12 not by works but by him who calls-she was told, “The older will serve the younger.” 13 Just as it is written: “Jacob I loved, but Esau I hated.”

This is actually carried over into chapter 10 where he does speak above faith instead of works. His next video starts with the end of chapter 9 and goes through verse 10. Please see that one if you haven’t already.

I’m sorry David, but this teaching is just awful. You get everything badly wrong. Paul is not teaching that God chooses some and not others. Paul is teaching God chooses everyone. You’ve badly, badly misinterpreted Romans 9.

@@latonyaforrest8698 Hey Latonya, are you familiar at all with the verse you just quoted? It’s from Matthew 22. Do you know it? It comes from a parable Jesus is teaching that _exactly_ says what I’m saying. I’m not sure from your short post if you knew that or if you think the quote you listed teaches that only some people are saved, that’s why I’m asking.

can you explain why you think it teaches God chooses everyone then?

    • @TheRomans9Guy
      @TheRomans9Guy 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@inquiringmind101 A couple reasons, life experience with Jews, and what scripture says.
I grew up in a Jewish neighborhood and I’ve had the opportunity to have many deep conversations with them about theological philosophical topics. What one comes to realize is what they understand God’s chosen was to mean and how deeply being God’s chosen people affects them. They believe, as they have always believed, that the OT teaches that God has chosen only them, out of all humanity, to be his people. That God cares only about them and no one else. This is laughable, logically, but they’re very serious about it. Some of them revel in its implications and those ones actually become hateful, spiteful to the outside world. They don’t engage Gentiles as a rule, (why waste your time with pigs?) but if confronted by one about their beliefs they’ll defend their hateful theology with guns blazing.
Others believe it to be true but are troubled by it, ashamed. They still see Gentiles as something less than human, but they understand that Gentiles hate this teaching, so they avoid conflict with them however possible.
In either case, their understanding is that God loves only them, and this is deeply rooted in the OT. But is it true? Why did God choose the Jews? Did he choose them to be his only special people on the Earth? Does his choosing them mean he hates all other people? (Do you know the answers to any of these questions?)
Jesus knew the answers, and he corrected Paul. The answers are, Hod didn’t choose the Jews because side they were special, and he didn’t choose them to treat them better than all other humans or to love only them. He chose them because they were the lowliest of people and so that by working miracles through them He would be the hero of the story and all people on Earth would see his majesty and want to worship him. Think of the story of David vs Goliath. God picked David to beat Goliath because he wanted everyone to quickly see that God is the hero, obviously not a shepherd boy. And God wanted the Jews to learn this lesson and the Philistines.
When Jesus, the Jewish Messiah, came to Earth he had several very odd interactions. The woman at the well and the Centurion are two interactions that Jesus had with Gentiles! Also some of his teachings, like the wedding feast in Matthew 22 or the story of the god Samaritan are about Gentiles being loved by God just as much as Jews. This was shocking news teaching.
We see the reverberations of this in Acts and all the Epistles. I’ll skip ahead to Paul’s letters.
In Romans chapters 1, 2, 3, and 5 look allow many times Paul says justification is for all people, faith is for all people. Places like 1:16, 2:9-11, 3:22-24, and 5:28. This inclusion of the Gentiles is a 1st Century revolution! In Rom 10:11-13 and 11:32 he spells it out again, faith is for all people, not just the Jews.
Ephesians is also very clear. See 3:6, but 2:11-20 is even more thorough. In these verses you can see that all people are invited to Gods kingdom, not just the Jews. As the Jews thought they were chosen by God, so too are the Gentiles chosen. Paul’s point here is that no one is un-chosen, when it comes to the invitation to his kingdom. No one is predestined out.
Then, of course, all people have been justified to come before God’s throne and given the opportunity to worship him, those who do to them he will grant eternal life. Those who do not he will not. But all people are chosen and justified and given that opportunity. No one is predestined to eternal death.

Don’t believe him. Believe God. I suggest Soteriology 101 on TH-cam by Leighton Flowers. Depending on how someone interprets Romans 8-11 can severely uphold or undermine God’s true character.

Rather than wait on the righteous judgement of God, come before Him and plead on His mercy and grace which he has promised. if we will confess and repent and ask His forgiveness, He will surely be faithful to our request for forgiveness.
