    Normally I use the EOS M for my videos, in this case because I needed to show both M and 700D I used the BMPCC 4K coupled with Meike lenses.

    I'm enjoying my EOS M. This is my entry into photography and film making. I built a rig and bought some used lenses, but I love the option of being able to shoot handheld. The vintage lenses i picked up are so fun to use as it brings a lot of character to the scenes.

    Awwww man somehow I'd also like the 700D route because I dont want to rig this camera but EF/EF-S lenses are so much bigger -.- The VWF and the tiltable display are so epic for unrigged cameras

    • @russo-filmmaking
      @russo-filmmaking  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I agree that tiltable display is a big pro. The only cont for me is that I can't mount a focal reducer. Another thing it's that I like to add a lot of weight to the camera for handheld shots to get stable images, and with the 700D it's a little more tricky to add that weight maintaining a decent look of the whole rig. And obviously for taking pictiures the 700D wins

    2:01 You can use the NiceyRig cage that was made for the 90D and sligthly modify it. Cut the safery pin and buy a dummy battery since the battery door does not align with the cage. Other than that it looks really nice on my 700D

    • @russo-filmmaking

  • @ivandj707
    @ivandj707 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I used the eos M first, but since the 700D has a tilting screen I got that camera as well, because I thought it would be more suitable for shooting. As you said, the image quality is the same, and the 700D did not show me a greater advantage in use, while the eos M has a much larger selection of affordable manual lenses, and since it is much smaller, I always decide to take it with me, and I hardly ever use the 700D, but I'll keep it as a backup for now.

    • @russo-filmmaking

      Yeah, I use the 700D only if I'm travelling with a stabilized lens ( the sigma e17-50mm F2.8), so I don't have to carry a tripod or an external monitor with me

    • @russo-filmmaking
      @russo-filmmaking  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      well I used the EOS M for almost all my TH-cam videos, short movies, music videos and never had problems with raw record time. It depends on how you use it and you set it. If you learn how to shoot with magic lantern you won’t have any problem.

    • @russo-filmmaking
      @russo-filmmaking  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @LaMakinaFotonika it depends from the settings you use, if you for example use the 3x3 mode you can record one hour if your sd card has enough space because the raw files are very large. I really never recorded 1 hour without stopping the camera (for the kind of work I do) but I did continuosly shots of more than 15 minutes, recording some event in 4.2k anamorphic mode in 12bit without any issue. With magic lantern there is no real 4K, you can shoot 4.2K, 4.6k, 4.8K up to 5.2K in anamorphic mode. In my channel there is a video on crop mood where I explain the main resolutions in which you can shoot and what of them is more stable .

    IT seems that the 700D does not have Image Stabilization for video. I wonder if the 700D with Magic Lantern can Provide Autofocus during record? the 700D on Magic lantern has lower ISO than the 100 of the Eos m? I am considering buying a second camera and the Screen of the 700D seems an attractive point for me. As always thank you Sergio for your videos, I really rely on your videos to make my Eos M work!

    • @russo-filmmaking
      @russo-filmmaking  23 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      the 700D a part the split screen and some ergonomic button on the body, is identical to the EOS M as I explain in the video: same quality, some problems. Autofocus is bad like the EOS M, and no ISO lower than 100. The difference I noticed is that when the 700D heat it stop record while the EOS M don’t.

    • @russo-filmmaking
      @russo-filmmaking  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Autofocus on these cameras for video is bad. You can turn it on but I wouldn't do it, if you don't want to risk ruining your footage. I watch to these digital cameras more like cine cameras because you learn to pull the focus manually like a pro

  • @MrBilloven

    Are there any differences on recording capability? I know that 700d can record up to 40mb/s , while eos m can double or more that number. Is that right?

    • @russo-filmmaking
      @russo-filmmaking  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't think so. Depending on resolution and preset I normally get between 75-82mb/s with the 700D. The only thing I noticed with the 700D is that (at least mine) easily in a warm environment (more than 27 degree celsius) reaches more than 54 degree celsius very fast, and this causes problems when recording.

      Crop Mood works only with M, 700D, 650D, 100D, and it doesn't work with 5d. The 5d as a better sensor, it's full frame. Has a better image quality but if you want to shoot in High resolutions modes you can get a real time preview, while you can with crop mood.

      @@russo-filmmaking Thanks! That's really helpful. I've got the EOS M and 5D Mark II bodies (with a bunch of others...) as well as the BMPCC 4K. I love the BMPCC, but there's something truly filmic about the videos I've been shooting with ML on the M and 5D Mark II. I can't quite emulate it on the BMPCC, although I'm a complete noob when it comes to color correction and grading. The videos from ML look a lot like my dad's old Kodachromes - really rich, saturated colors, warm, slightly muted and compressed color palette. Really gorgeous.
      Zeek's videos on his channel show the rich, gorgeous colors that ML in RAW mode is capable of.

      @russo-filmmaking  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I didn't understand your question: if you are asking how do you can preview your file in camera than You can preview your files in your camera with the play button. There are 2 options you can choose after pushing the preview button: color and fast. Color gives you a choppy preview, about 16-18 Frame per second. So I suggest to use the fast option: quality is poor and image is B/W but you get almost 23 frame per second. For checking your shoots, your framing and composition in camera, it's enough ok.

Press the info button and in the upper left corner select the camera icon. Then be sure to select the camera icon with the M. After that (very important) click again the info button several time until only the caption "no card in camera" appears in the screen .Turn off the camera and insert your SD card. Know your camera is set to manual mode. Another thing: in order to be able to change the shutter speed (which I suggest to set to 1/50), in the magic lantern menu under the movie tab select movie tweaks and set shutter lock off. Check my previous videos on the crop mood where I explain how to change the ISO the aperture and the shutter speed.
