I met Doug Steenland once at our Seattle reservations office and when I approached him and introduced myself, his handshake was limp and he didn't even respond to me with words. It was not a very warm reception.
cool! my family and i have a family friend who works as a boeing engineer and were taking a tour of the boeing factory and the boeing 787 dreamliner!! in seattle! its gonna be awesome! 787!! ill try to make a video, but i dunno if i can
Nice, glad to see boeing ignoring exisitng technology and applying a new trend towards aircraft design. Composites is and will be the future of aircraft design.
GeneralChurch. They havent even test flown the 787 yet and it wont be for several months. I was just at the Boeing Plant and when i was on the tour they only had one sitting on the ramp with ANA liverly colors and only had 5 on the factory line. The tour guide said they will be having the first test flight of the 787 by the end of the summer09. So what you saw wasnt a 787, but a 737NG which looks similar to a 787
@schussman Airbus is like Apple, big pricy eye-candy that everybody wants. The 787 takes what Airbus is known for (carrying lots of passengers) and adds efficiency, comfort, and innovation.
it wasnt boarding, it was over on the tarmac by one of the work hangers if you know newark at all. it definitely wasnt a jumbo or any type of 757 767 777 or 747 i fly a lot and that plane was not any of the listed above.
The first 787 was originally scheduled to be delivered LAST WEEK to ANA Airlines. The first NWA delivery was originally scheduled for June of 2008. The aircraft has not even been powered up yet, let alone taken to the skies.
i would guess they wouldn't but i'm pretty sure they would dump the dc-9. the cockpit of the dreamliner looks so modern and the plane is awesome. i wanna fly on one of those.
maybe it was something else you know once I made a video of a boeing 737 and until I saw the video on my PC I didn't know it was actually a boeing 747!
NWA is going to be the first airline in the world to get the 787. I wonder what the livery is going to look like when NWA merges with Delta, and becomes only Delta... Maybe the circle and Delta instead of NWA on it... I'll miss Northwest Airlines.
working for northwest already sucks and it will suck more with delta there. and i'm pretty sure it will be approved. they announced that we can start flying on delta flights free starting may 6
I think these B787's will be in the color of Delta now that NW is merging with Delta. Here @ Schiphol almost all of it's A330 are now in the colors of Delta Airlines.
Well. I have to correct you there. As you probably understood in this wideo the plane is 50 % plastic. And when you think of the fuelefficiant engines and the light weight of the fuselage the airlines will save thousands of dollars per flight. Witch mean the ticetprice will be slightly lower.
some of the animated 787s have dihedrals (winglets for those who aren't nerds:D) and others don't like at 5:05 on the left wing you can see the dihedral but at 4:11 there's no dihedral are there dihedral options that the airlines can choose from in real life? And if so has NWA ordered with dihedral or with out?
I am not a pilot or claim to be, but a HUD with an artificial horizon is speed, altitude, and direction would seem very convenient. My uncle has been an engineer at Boeing for like over thirty years. He worked on this program.
I would have loved to see a red tailed 787 operating in Tokyo Narita... Without NWA Narita isn't the same anymore! NWA kinda represented the bridge between Japan and the US.
It's gonna be one hell of an aircraft, just a shame they are having so many complications with it. Just one question though, why did they make a 787 and roll it out but never fly it?
They will not dump the most efficient narrowbody while having dozens of gasguzzler like maddogs and old 737. After a specific number it doesn't matter to have a dualfleet.
That's true, but DL is in the same boat. They need to merge to stay profitable. NW/DL merger (if approved) won't be only merger of legacy carriers. I wouldn't be surprised if AA merges with someone (CO, UA) to get back that prized #1 largest carrier in the world title...
Airbus makes some decent aircraft. By far, the A330, A310, A300-600 are what *I* consider to be "sexy" aircraft. The A340 is simply a plastic version of the venerable Boeing 707. The A318/319/320/321 family aren't my favorites at all due to the fact that it takes more time to do a "quick turn" at the gate compared to the Boeing 737.
The DREAM liner. That is what it is...a DREAM. Never reality. Boeing will suffer badly with this delayed ship. It will be delayed longer than the A380. Keep in mind, Boeing promised they would deliver on time. Now, they are already 1 year behind on deliveries.
We were leaders, unfortunately our "leaders" sold us out and "merged" with Delta. There really is no such thing as a merger due one airline survives and the other goes away forever taking all that history with it. NWA had one of the best histories and people in the industry and that will never be replaced. Enjoy your regional jet flights and no amenities. The airline industry is truly dead.
True and they had hubs in MSP and DTW which have flights to MNL and if the B787 wasn't delayed then NW now DL could have used them on nonstop MSP/DTW/ATL & JFK-MNL by simply overflying NGO or NRT
Daniel Barnes there's way too many airlines that expanded to long haul. Continental, Delta, United, American, us airways. How many times a year are you flying to Europe Asia across whole world? Us is badly positioned to have connecting traffic from Asia to Europe etc. All major EU airlines such as Lufthansa,British airways, klm, air France have very large connecting traffic from USA as well as Asia Africa and rest of the world. Therefore it didn't workout for them in us.
@danialbaemrnes3271 Well, it seems that didn't turn out the way you said it would, did it? Northwest was toxic. Delta is head and shoulders above Northwest in every aspect.
Northwest operated a319, a320, a330 and the super jumbo B747 and delta does not operated any of these aircraft. Would delta retired these aircraft once the merger is finalized or not?
as a commercial pilot at 19rs old and soon to be hired in few months time instrument flying in crappy weather involves alot of staring at the instruments and to be honest its annoying looking down when you want to be looking out the window and before i got into flying i couldnt see why there wasnt a HUD on civil aircraft but there now is..its great to have but rarely seen on civil aircraft..maybe for weight reasons and extra costs as its an add on bit like winglets
Both Aircraft Manufacturers design awe-inspiring aircraft, i love the Airbus a320-200's and the Boeing 737-832's, flown on both types more times than i can count on my fingers. As to the comment about Boeing aircraft having more crashes than Airbus, Boeing has been around ALOT LONGER than Airbus, mistakes are going to be made, we are human after all. I actually would prefer if Lockheed Martin would get in on the civilian market, continued.....
I met Doug Steenland once at our Seattle reservations office and when I approached him and introduced myself, his handshake was limp and he didn't even respond to me with words. It was not a very warm reception.

Well, if you can't, don't. None of us want to see a pathetic effort expended in making a video that isn't worth watching.
Nice, glad to see boeing ignoring exisitng technology and applying a new trend towards aircraft design. Composites is and will be the future of aircraft design.
wouldn't have this been a sight.
sweet ...2008
Thanks, because i was not sure if it was an actual word or a typo.
GeneralChurch. They havent even test flown the 787 yet and it wont be for several months. This makes me cry each time.
Me too it seemed like they were going to have a great future 😭
If only Delta kept the order
@@gabrielb9010 They should have and use it on B767-332/ER routes while freeing the A350-941s on routes that formerly had the B747-451s B777-232s
The HUD had been a customer option for years on both Airbuses and Boeings.
Very nice
Incredible
The 787 is made of carbon composite, so there won't be any problems with metal fatigue which brought the Comets down.
...but the lithium batteries catching fire are no big deal, right?
787 is bleedless iirc. All subordinate systems are run via onboard electrical, not bleed air.
there is or are like 2 787's, one is right now in engin testing and hope it will fly soon
that's because they fly the 757-300, which is a streched version of the 757-200
It flew. But, it was not public. my dad was on buiseniss in california, and he saw it fly over. He knew what he was talking about.
@levygonz well because ana is the launch customer and is going through test so its gonna be a while
@schussman Airbus is like Apple, big pricy eye-candy that everybody wants. The 787 takes what Airbus is known for (carrying lots of passengers) and adds efficiency, comfort, and innovation.
wow look at the wingflex...
Richard Anderson needs a good hair piece.
. . . And a good shave!
I got both Boeing 787 Dreamliner & Boeing 747-8 Intercontinental in my background.
thanks
it wasnt boarding, it was over on the tarmac by one of the work hangers if you know newark at all. it definitely wasnt a jumbo or any type of 757 767 777 or 747

Yes, 'stowage' is the correct term. It's different from 'storage'.
nice plane
i would guess they wouldn't but i'm pretty sure they would dump the dc-9.
the cockpit of the dreamliner looks so modern and the plane is awesome. i wanna fly on one of those.
this song reminds me of Emirates's older safety video
i work for northwest too. Im not excited about the merger, but thrilled to have this new plane in our fleet. its going to rooooocckk.
Welp...
i like the a380 more but thats b/c of it enormus size
Americans are not small minded and ignorant.
Americans are way to proud for their own good.
it s the song of EMIRATES
@yoyoyoyoshua I agree, The A380 is a giant best for size, The 787 is smaller but more advanced technology, so you can't compare them.
maybe it was something else you know once I made a video of a boeing 737 and until I saw the video on my PC I didn't know it was actually a boeing 747!
this pup hasnt even flown yet. as a pilot, I cannot wait one day to fly on one of these, but cmon boeing, lets get the job done.
True, the news article about Delta not buying NWA's 787s is false
god, look at how smooth she is, not a single rivet or panel line
yeah, that'll be interesting
You welcome.
how is this possible?!?!?! northwest is gone!
@fretnbe No 787 is wider, Go look it up!!!
NWA is going to be the first airline in the world to get the 787.
I wonder what the livery is going to look like when NWA merges with Delta, and becomes only Delta... Maybe the circle and Delta instead of NWA on it... I'll miss Northwest Airlines.

Here @ Schiphol almost all of it's A330 are now in the colors of Delta Airlines.
You made some good points there. I did a search on the topic and found most people will agree with your video.
Northwest Rocks! good luck with the detroit-shanghai route.
Thanks Delta they delayed it to 2020
i thought they were releasing these planes next year on 2009. without any delays
isnt nwa gone aka mixed in with delta?
Yes, they retired the 727's in 2000 I believe. They had a lot of them
Well. I have to correct you there. As you probably understood in this wideo the plane is 50 % plastic. And when you think of the fuelefficiant engines and the light weight of the fuselage the airlines will save thousands of dollars per flight. Witch mean the ticetprice will be slightly lower.
Hey people today Boeing 787 Dream liners make it's first maiden flight. The maiden flight went very well in CNN video.
Excellent Video!!!! I want to fly the Boeing 787 someday!!!
@ContinentalFlyer738 no, it's still DL
And now..
Narita is all gone down
i travel to asia twice a year cant wait to fly on 787
my dad works there hes happy about the merger but of course we live near atlanta
Have we gotten into bleedless technology yet?
Or what is the first primarily all electric airplane?
@A380sebster This vid came out in 2006/07 probably, way before a merger was serious.
some of the animated 787s have dihedrals (winglets for those who aren't nerds:D) and others don't like at 5:05 on the left wing you can see the dihedral but at 4:11 there's no dihedral are there dihedral options that the airlines can choose from in real life? 11 years ago...
@tnt7005 the 787 uses Rolls Royces too.
Thanks, Now which one is NWA choosing?
I am not a pilot or claim to be, but a HUD with an artificial horizon is speed, altitude, and direction would seem very convenient. My uncle has been an engineer at Boeing for like over thirty years. He worked on this program.
I would have loved to see a red tailed 787 operating in Tokyo Narita... Without NWA Narita isn't the same anymore! NWA kinda represented the bridge between Japan and the US.
It's gonna be one hell of an aircraft, just a shame they are having so many complications with it.
Just one question though, why did they make a 787 and roll it out but never fly it?
HUD!!! Wow thats awesome. I hope that when I become an airline pilot that I will get to fly a 787.
They will not dump the most efficient narrowbody while having dozens of gasguzzler like maddogs and old 737. After a specific number it doesn't matter to have a dualfleet.
this plane is awesome!
can't wait to fly in one
This aged like milk
NWA is now officially Delta. As of January 1st of this year, NWA's officially gone.
No the Comet had square windows the 787 still has that oval look
BIGGER THEY BET....HARDER THEY FALL!
@nojyt yeah I hate it when people compare the A380 to the 787. there is no comparison
That's true, but DL is in the same boat. They need to merge to stay profitable. NW/DL merger (if approved) won't be only merger of legacy carriers. I wouldn't be surprised if AA merges with someone (CO, UA) to get back that prized #1 largest carrier in the world title...
are you nuts they have only 2 that are in one piece one with boeing livery and the other with ANA livery!
NO WAY!
Things change so quickly don't they?
2008?
Northwest Airlines?
no, i flew NWA to japan under Delta last month. No inflight. Ride quality was a POS. I miss the 777... i guess im gonna have to fly JAL again now.
there are only 2 airplanes that are in a hole piece both are testing in Washington you know it could be an A330 or an A340!
I'll still be afraid to fly no matter what and no matter how many flights I've been on
800,000 hours????? 100 years
Airbus makes some decent aircraft. By far, the A330, A310, A300-600 are what *I* consider to be "sexy" aircraft. The A340 is simply a plastic version of the venerable Boeing 707. The song sounds a lot like EK's safety video music lol. i wonder where they got it from lol
I wish boeing will hurry up with livieries for the 787
I know, right! I can't wait for this thing!
The DREAM liner. That is what it is...a DREAM. Never reality. Boeing will suffer badly with this delayed ship. It will be delayed longer than the A380. Keep in mind, Boeing promised they would deliver on time. Now, they are already 1 year behind on deliveries.
Bad prediction
I want one
cute ad
A turbulence avoiding system... Does the A380 has the same system?
We will never experience turbulence on a 787?
Has anyone noticed at 3:20 Larger "STOWAGE" bins?
We were leaders, unfortunately our "leaders" sold us out and "merged" with Delta. Management screwed the workers of NWA, and that was their plan all along. Rape and pillaged the company of every dime

a NEWW plane Best ever !
probably but is nwa the only airline equipped with a 787
what do i have to do to fly in a 787
do i need 2 pay extra?
Well actually it is set to replace the 757 and 767.
Is 2009 already... no Boeing 787 has built!
they have one in service already i saw it parked on the tarmac at Newark EWR last week, its huge! I cant wait to get on one of these planes!
Well thank goodness for the fuel efficiency Boeing is putting on the 787.
Both Aircraft Manufacturers design awe-inspiring aircraft, i love the Airbus a320-200's and the Boeing 737-832's, flown on both types more times than i can count on my fingers.
