    I've watfched probably 20 videos on this bike and I learned more about the options and tune from your video than all of those combined. It's almost like they all are reading the same script. Appreciate the video!

      Really glad it was useful and you enjoyed the detail. Make sure you watch the live ride review that goes with it too. If you could spread the word about my channel with your mates that’d be really appreciated as well. Have a great weekend. Guy

    "Properly locked down Brawler" it is! Just rode it for a weekend and then proceeded to pick one up, well it's on order. Definitely one of the funniest bikes I've ever ridden!

    What i don`t understand, as a layman. Why do they force this tight mid linkage? The mud will absolutely kill it. i got a small rock stuck into the linkage on my merida e160 and the paint is gone. On the first ride !. Also its a nightmare to clean it. I don`t use pressured water, only the garden hose.

    • @tonyparkin3379
      @tonyparkin3379 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Every SC bike I demo'd last year (appart from last year 5010) had mud clogged in the rear shocks). Now the 5010 and bronson look exactly the same.

    • @thesoloenone8245
      @thesoloenone8245 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tonyparkin3379 Sad part is, that i could not find any good solution for a mud guard to avoid the problems, what you mentioned as well.

    • @stevenboisvert1767
      @stevenboisvert1767 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The design is for low center of gravity and the linkage allows for the shock kinematics they want. Upper swing links tend to add an odd hump to the shock curve that can be efficient for pedaling and XC riding but a real compromise for bump absorption and raw traction. I have had a 2019 Nomad since 2018 with a few mud fest rides and the lower link hasn't been a problem. If it is wet enough or you are going fast enough a shock is going to get dirty. Plus it does have a little mud flap for the shock. I also have a 2017 5010 V2 that I got in 2016 that I love but I am definitely welcoming the lower link for how large of an improvement it brings to suspension performance. I am in New England so we get mud for sure. It is a pain in the ass to make it ultra clean, but functionally the hose gets everything that matters out of the way to keep the shock happy.

    Nice video man! Would u put 150mm fork travel on that bike? Do u think 150mm would take away the playfulness of the bike?

  • @tonyparkin3379
    @tonyparkin3379 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Don't know why they they changed the rear shock position. When I demoed the bronson bike in winter. You couldn't see the shock from all the mud.

  • @albertogisbert7169
    @albertogisbert7169 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey, nice talk, do you know whats the fork offset? also if its a 46mm offset, if it would have enought clearance for a 37mm offset fork?

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Alberto, sorry for delay. It's a 46mm but no problem to fit 37mm AFAIK

  • @TFritz82
    @TFritz82 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Man, they should offer that revised ifp setup for Megatower owners wanting to make their SD not feel like a washboard over square edged stuff at speed!

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That's exactly where the tune comes from. They've now changed it on the Megatower too so maybe ask your Santa Cruz dealer if it's available aftermarket?

    • @TFritz82
      @TFritz82 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GuyKesTV wow, that's very useful to know, thanks! I wonder at which point they changed the tune for the MT...how did you find out that info on the MT. I feel like the majority of people have no idea they revised the shock for the current Megas!

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TFritz82 I don't think they've made much noise about it, I just found out sort of backwards while asking about the tune on the 5010. They're probably just letting people know who come back to them with MT issues rather than wanting to create a stampede.

    Lovely bike. Not sure about the salmon colour though. Shame no alloy version, I feel ali is more eco than carbon and wonder how long before we revert back to recyclable materials.
    Guy, which bikes would you consider this against? Great vid.

    • @TPV07
      @TPV07 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      they did not sell and almost the same price to manufacture, also really complicated with the lower link design.

    • @nellyandbert
      @nellyandbert 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      PETI T. Agree with the reasons, personally I really like a sorted alloy bike and always nervous about carbon bikes in transport. Stay safe and keep riding!

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Greg, the Switchblade video is currently on my Patreon as an exclusive. If you sign up for $3 a month there's several exclusive videos on there and TBH if you don't think it's worth it then just cancel the pledge and it probably won't even take the first $3. I can't remember the date it takes the payments though so I can't guarantee it.

    do you think mallet e pedals are the best clipless pedals for enduro riding.

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've not tried the Nukeproof Horizon's which always get good write ups but i've been using the Mallet E's ever since I got them in for test and that's a big switch as I had loads of shoes already set up for SPDs.

    Hi Guy, regarding your comments on the new Burgtec Mk3 stem, when you say it feels stiffer/sturdier do you mean compared to the Burgtec Mk2 stem?

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Andrew Woodall yes, feels much stiffer and more solid compared to the CNC’d one.

  • @TPV07

    is the shock tune on all models or just the ones which come with the ultimate shock?

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Just asked Santa Cruz's design team and they say: "The 5010 ultimate uses the High Flow piston but not the other variants. This is not a cost savings measure, but a reflection of the way the different shocks flow oil."

    Hey Guy, do you think the 4 pot brakes are too much for an XC bike? I ride a 120mm Specialized Camber and I'm think about trying 4 pot over 2. Just wondered what your thoughts were on them. Also I'm a heavy rider lol

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hell no. The power isn't massively different between something like a G2 and a Level but it's noticeable and they're more subtly controlled and more consistent on longer descents or if you're putting more load through them as a heavier rider. There's very little difference in weight between most 4 pots and 2 pots too. Last time I weighed Guide and Level in Ultimate spec they were only 36g for a lever+hose+brake set.

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you're still on 180/160mm rotors though then hopping up to 200/180 will increase power by 20% (a lot more than most 2 pot to 4 pot comparisons) for just the price of a rotor and adaptor mount.

      @@GuyKesTV thanks Guy. Think I'm just going to upgrade my brakes, I'm running Shinmano Deore BR447 calipers and think they're just a bit shagged after 4 years of use. Time for an upgrade 😀

    • @GuyKesTV

    • @GuyKesTV
      @GuyKesTV  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting. Hopefully they will bring in an alloy version further down the line then. The C is definitely the best deal at the moment for sure.

    • @rickmoz
      @rickmoz 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      GuyKesTV only problem with the C version it’s not available as frame only. Last year I bought the v3 5010 in alloy because the CC carbon was just out of my price point and my brain took over my heart and I thought is there really £1300 of a performance difference, I’m not a pro just a slightly overweight 37 year old ..... but having said all of this I have spoken to stif they do have stock of the new v4 arghhhh
