We were scheduled by your schedule to have our Re-cycle trash picked up last Thursday, April 7th and it was not. Now we are going to have 4 weeks of recycle on the 21st of April. Our bins are already FULL and this is not the first time this has happened. I called your office and all they said is that they would pass on the message. Everyone pays this city monthly for this service so . . . should we expect a rebate for "lack of service"? Again, this is not the first time and for many weeks now recycle has not picked up on the date scheduled, it's usually the following day or weeks. Really disappointed in this organization!!!
In the video- the resident is shown cutting the top of the box away from the bottom portion, which is greasy. The top (non greasy) part can be tossed in the recycling container while the contaminated portion is tossed in the trash. When ordering a pizza- ask the restaurant if they can place parchment paper under your pie. This could help to keep the bottom of the pizza box clean and allow it to be recycled.
Has recycling pick up stopped in Middle Plantation (Royal Oak Close-- 900 Block Houses and others)? For the past 4 weeks our blue bin as well as many of our neighbors on Royal Oak Close have not been picked up. We have started transporting our recycled items into our black bins since that is the only truck that shows up to pick up refuse. Today, 12.5.18, was yet another day where we saw recycling trucks on Little Neck Road but none made it to our cul-de-sac. Please let me know, if the City, has decided to no longer service this neighborhood so I may share with many of our very discouraged recycling-prone neighbors. Thanks!
Per contract, our recycling vendor agrees that collection services shall not begin before 7:00 a.m. and shall generally be completed by 5:00 p.m.. With the time change, it can be difficult for our Waste Management crews, and the contractor, to be in neighborhoods collecting once it is dark. Safety is paramount and darkness provides us with limited visibility for seeing the things that matter most to us, such as children playing. We expect our contractor to operate in a safe and efficient manner and for this reason, they (and us) will sometimes be unable to collect routes by 5pm. Since there are a number of factors that can cause our routes to be delayed, our contractor “agrees that missed collections shall be serviced within 24 hours or the same day, depending upon the time of notification.” Each evening, our contractor provides Waste Management with an email stating all routes were completed. Should routes not have been completed, we are provided with a list of those areas. Once those routes are completed, we receive a final email of completion. Your area is on the list of neighborhoods that were not completed yesterday. Trucks are out now, servicing this area and should be finished by noon. If your cart is at the curb, then you can expect it to be serviced. We have made them aware of your concerns and hope that they are able to identify the problem and take corrective actions so that it does not continue to happen. For all future collections- If your container has not been serviced on your normal collection day, please leave it at the curb as the trucks will be finishing those routes the following morning. If your container has yet to be serviced by noon the following day, please contact Waste Management. You can reach our Customer Service at 757-385-4650 or by email at WasteMgt@vbgov.com While social media provides an excellent way for us to share information, we are asking that you please call our department should your container be missed in the future. By contacting our department, we are able to track the missed collection and issue a work order, which requires follow-up and completion notification from the hauler. It also makes them aware of any route issues. We appreciate you and your neighbors being such avid recyclers and hope that this provides some insight. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.
Has the contract with Tidewater Fiber Corp been changed? Are they not required to pick up Recycle Bins on our normally scheduled Trash Pickup Day (Thursdays on MacArthur Road within the Green Run section of the city)? For the past 4 Recycle Dates, our Recycle Bins along MacArthur Road have NOT been picked up on the normal trash pickup days. They have, instead, been picked up on the following day (Friday). Many residents have now lost trust and confidence in the Recycling program because it's not reliable. As a result, many are now placing typically recycled materials into the Black Trash canisters in order to comply with Green Run Homes Association bylaws of when we can and cannot have our trash receptacles out at the curb. Does NOBODY check up on the Recycling program anymore to ensure the contract is being adhered to by the awardee? Please address this issue.
On occasion, collections for recycling occur the day after a resident’s normal collection day. This is due to driver shortages and/or equipment failure and in no way violates the contract between the City and the hauler. Our office is made aware of all neighborhoods that will be serviced the following day and we communicate that information to residents via our Waste Management Facebook page and NextDoor. We are currently working with your HOA and will be happy to see if they can share this information as well. Please email us directly at wastemgt@vbgov.com with your home address so that we can look into this further.
Hi, Mopat. You may contact Waste Management at 757-385-4650 or email them at wastemgt@VBgov.com. Here's their Facebook account: facebook.com/VBWasteMgt. Thanks.
VB Waste Management, Please take the comments from this video into consideration and create a new video, this is a very outdated explanation of HOW the citizens of Virginia Beach should recycle. We don't need to know what the importance is, I think those that do really want to help. Tell us what can/can't go into the cans. I have so many neighbors (many much older) who think all their yard debris and scrap wood from home projects go in the recycle bin. I'd hate to see what's happened in Chesapeake happen in VB.

The video shows a man cutting up a greasy pizza box at 1:50; however, I have read that greasy food containers are not recyclable.

The Great Neck library told me we could recycle batteries in our regular blue cart. Is this true?
