1968 Miracle Mile Winner Halwes

Champion Tasmanian pacer Halwes won the 1968 edition of the Miracle Mile after being ruled out of the Inter Dominion Final at Alexandra Park, Auckland, less than a fortnight earlier with a leg injury.
Driven by Kevin Newman, Halwes stopped the clock in 1:58.6.
Prizemoney was $10,000 with an additional $2500 if the winner equalled or bettered two minutes and a further $5000 to equal or better Robin Dundee’s track record of 1:59.

Another great champion Halwes - there were some wonderful horses in those days with plenty of owner / trainer / driver being the same bloke . Not referring to Halwes of course - just reminiscing !
