I've been into motorsport for the past several years . in cross country rallies like desert storm and raid etc 4H has been used and like desert challenges( dune cross/ UDC) 4L .
cross country drivers need to complete stages of 150-200 kms
which is not possible in low ratio with a speed of 70-80 .
No they don't, 4low is for extreme conditions only

To people watching this - this is wrong information on the video. please for gods sake, don’t do what he did on rain/tar or any roads for that matter. It is also mentioned in the manual. Do not use 4L like that. It will destroy the gears and transfer case. It is also mentioned in the manual.
There is no central differential to save from the stresses and winding up of the gears.
4L is for very slow and highly slippery conditions like ice. not even snow or sand.
