@@SEANBERRY56 same - I am not spending more money on this game until I get good enough that equipment actually matters. It just doesn't matter right now because my swing is shit.
Love the look of those new grips. And great to see you talk about a subject which should be top of everyone's priority at the start of every new golf season. I'm very particular about having good grips but my brother plays with a set of blades with the shiniest grips I've ever seen. Tried them at the range and I had no confidence using them they were so bad, so not surprised your driver test showed you could carry more with new grips. Managed to convince my brother to have all his grips upgraded and just ordered new ones and will fit them for him. I have a bet with him he'll start shooting lower scores once new grips are fitted. Such an easy job and so well worth it. Awesome as always Mark.
I've always cleaned my grips ( after soaking in a bucket of warm water with laundry soap with stiff bristled brush ) multiple times a year and can go a long time ( years ) without changing grips. When they need it I do it though.
Have had to go Jumbo grip due to arthritis, the CPX grips had just arrived in the pro shop so I thought I would give them a go. If you get sore hands after a bucket of balls, try these they are amazing, I can grip softer yet with more control. For me they are a revaluation.
hi, how do you still find them? thinking of getting the jumbo cpx grips for my irons, as suffer from arthritis too, was using midsize normal grips but someone told me about these, do you have them just on your irons? appreciate any advice, thanks and greetings from Ireland
Grips whould be maintiained with mild soap, warm water and a scrub brush regularly. It is recommended to replace them after every 40 rounds. May last longer if not getting baked in a 30 degree Celsius trunk or boot.
Refresh my grips.....I just did it a few weeks ago and completely agree with this video; makes me feel as though I'm playing with new clubs and feel more confident!
Where I am in America (I’m sure it’s common around the world) most clubs and what not are having a hard time getting grips… I had 4 clubs that I changed the grips over last year but that was only because it were the only 4 matching available. I’ll be checking into doing it this year on my jpx900 tour/forged irons
I'll be regripping mine this week! And found that a hook blade isn't really needed to remove off a graphite shaft! I removed grips off of 2 drivers, a 3-wood, 5-wood and 4 hybrid with graphite shafts with no issue at all.
Refresh my grips! I actually enjoy regripping clubs and have a workstation in the garage dedicated to it. My friends love that I can do this mind-numbing task for them!
Refresh my grips! Brilliant video today, thanks Mark. Would love to see more reviews on other grips. Real lack of decent, informed, grip reviews on TH-cam.
Refresh my grips….Love the Golf Pride CP2’s. Find they last longer than other grips and will last over a year before they need changing and great for arthritis sufferers. Will definitely try these CPX next re-gripping.
I still play the driver you used in your test. Haven’t found anything that performs consistently better. Went in for a look at new drivers last week, old driver versus new on track man and the old one remained the champ. Such a great, low spin head.
Refresh my grips. I love doing re-gripping. I find it to be very therapeutic. I can do a full set in under an hour. No fancy vices etc required. I do it pretty much the way you do. I stick a tee in to the but end of the grip to keep the white spirit in before pouring into be the double sided tape.
Refresh my grips. 100% agree with having good and new grips. It does feel like getting new clubs. It blows my mind seeing how many people have old worn grips on their clubs. It would make me crazy
I played with completely unrestored hickory clubs with very old shiny leather grips (which had to be treated with olive oil or the like to make them tacky) in order to find out how difficult they were to use. As is the modern trend with hickories i replaced them with leather wrap grips turned suede side out. The difference was huge.
Mark use a hairdrier to heat up the old tape. Is a lot easier to take off. Loving the CP2s at the moment. Have Midsize from driver to pitching wedge and standard for my 3 wedges. Find changing my grips very relaxing so will likely order the new Golfprides and fit them in the next couple of months. 😁
I did this worked great although when I left the hairdryer in the garage and wife couldn’t find it, it didn’t end well 😖 be warned people put it back 😃
I always compare my newly gripped club to a new uninstalled grip to make sure same length after installing. You can stretch them thus making them thinner when applying. Also you can use a tee to trap the fluid until you dump it out on the grip tape. After gripping all clubs I wash them with soap and water to get the stuff off of them.
Nice. I prefer solid colour grips with no lines and often turn the logo down so I don’t see it. Grip alignment goes out the window with adjustable hosel clubs.
REFRESH MY GRIPS. I went from standard to Oversize last year (due to arthritis pain) and it has given me a new lease on golf. I can actually somewhat enjoy the game again. The pain now just comes from the quality of my game, not the arthritis. I'm really curious to try these new grips out. The extra cushion is quite intriguing.
AT-205 - it's a rubber restorer often used in automotive for weather stripping and rubber boots, sleeves, and bushings. Works great for golf grips, too. hit them with a stiff brush or a quick fine sandpaper, then a rag dampened with this stuff and it will make the rubber really supple again. I do it to my grips before the start of the season and once about midway through and it keeps them feeling nice and grippy. Just standard GP tour velvet rubber grips. Been on the same bottle for about 5 years and it was 10 bucks at auto parts store.
Refresh my grips. I think you should point out that most putter grips (i.e. those which are not circular in cross-section) would be non-conforming if fitted to your chipper. Chippers are treated as "irons" in the rules.
I changed my own grips in Fall of '20. Used the GP +4 MCC like Dan has in this video. They were an instant satisfaction as far as ball striking goes. Like, I could hear the ball sizzle off the face of the club. Now on to today, I have wedges, 3wd, and driver that need grips replaced. I am interested in the CPX's but afraid of the smaller diameter.
"Refresh my grips" Thank you for another informative video Mark. I plan on replacing most of my short iron grip with medium size. Hoping it'll give me a little bit more feeling control around the green and out of the bunker. Keep up the great work, cheers!
I love fresh grips and i see an immediate drop off in performance as they wear or shine up. Great video and so much more economical than brand new whole clubs :)
I play pure grips and I put them on with their goofy air compressor gun. It’s nice to be able to do your own grips and take them right out and play without any dry time. It feels so nice every time
Refresh my grips. Personally i regrip regularly. Just what i was taught. I was always told the most important golf equipment for every golfer is grips and ball consistancy. So i keep my grips fresh and always play the same ball. So important in my opinion.
Seriously... new grips are like a good facelift. It can make a new golfer out of you for sure! I love mine medium with two layers of tape...and soft. Currently have the Golf Pride CB2 grips and I feel like the extra size gives me a slightly better idea of what the face is doing because my hands feel more secured on it. REFRESH MY GRIPS!!!
Sooo... I leave the old grips on, and buy "tennis racket" grips. They cost $20 Canadian for a dozen wraps, and I can wrap a club in about 3 minutes. They are sponge soft, have extremely high sweat/humidity/rain resistance, and they are made for tennis players who put many times the torque on in a six hour match than I put on a golf club all season. They also have the benefit of making my grip slightly larger diameter, which is great for my long fingers. Great feel, great lasting, just an all around better grip than any "golf" grips I've ever tried....and way cheaper! I keep them in my golf bag, and at the first sign of wear I replace it in a few minutes.
Your content is really reaching a new level this spring Mark. I always love you content, but right now you are really providing absolute beautiful videos. Very impressive. Keep it up!
Mark seeing you doing this I can't believe pro doing his job no work table or shaft wise, this is exactly how I regrip my irons driver and three wood is difficult
I've done a fair amount of regripping (of my own clubs) recently. Not much to it, just be sure to use enough spirit to fully lubricate the grip and the tape!
Another great video. I know you said you hate it Mark but I really enjoy re-gripping my own clubs at home. Also love the new and improved looks and feels with the clubs after putting the new grips on
Happy to be corrected but regarding your comment about putting a putter grip on the Crossy Wedge, I don’t think you can do that as only the putter can have a grip with a flat side (I.e. a putter grip)?
I’m right on the std/mid size line and use a combination of std for my irons and mid for my woods. It’s worked so well after trying all sorts recently. I use pure grips and have put them on backwards so the top view is completely blank so I don’t get any subconscious bias to hand placement.
Hey mark I remember reading that it is illegal to use a putter grip on anything other than a putter. Not sure if you care about tournament golf/handicap rules. I know you mentioned regripping the chipper to a putter grip. Great video.
If it's a perfectly round grip it's OK. But you can't use a grip that's flat on one side, for instance. Here's an excerpt from the USGA rules: "The grip must be fixed to the shaft, must be straight and plain in form, must extend to the end of the shaft and must not be moulded for any part of the hands."
Be careful. In the States its $15/ grip to do yourself so that's $200 for 13 clubs. If they were SOMEWHAT reasonably priced I'd consider it but at that price, nope. I'll regrip twice a yr on ebay for $70 instead. Golf pride wont receive a dime of my money. That's stupid.
Always good content and Nirvana t is 🔥 cheers! new grips are almost as good as new clubs...amazing feeling...our only connection to the club, and like one's grip, very often overlooked!
Refresh my grips. Mark, It doesn't have to be a chore. You need to get yourself a cheap little hobby airbrush compressor, ordinary masking tape and a can of spray adhesive. I use the air to blow the grips on and off. The spray adhesive is enough to stay stuck to the masking tape without moving, and then it air just pops it loose with a twist when you want to change them. I change mine at least twice in a year and also do it for some of the friends I play in social golf club with. It literally takes me half an hour. No messing with solvents and they're usable five minutes later. And for those wondering, I swing my driver at >115mph and the grip doesn't budge.
Refresh my grips, I change my grips every year, and have used the GP tour wraps midsize for about 15 years.. I think they are by mikes the best grips on the market but I’m definitely going to give these new ones a go.. 👍👍
re grip all my clubs! Use a Black and Decker Work mate (table/ vice) You can then line up your club face dead verical in the soft vice then when you slip on your grip it will be lined up spot on. safer when cutting away the old grip and tape. When peeled off, use the double sided waxy paper to smooth the new tape on the shaft (no creases)
"Refresh my grips" indeed as I can attest to new grips being amazing! I don't think I gained yards because I always kept my grips at least decent (sanding them to restore tackiness for a time as an example), but they certainly feel SO much better than an old grip because there is noticeably less slide. I can't speak for everyone, but more grip inspires more confidence for me because it's a lot like the club is attached to me rather than something I need to death grip so it doesn't slip out. They really do feel like a new club. Which makes a lot of sense because they're the only point of contact we have. Well... "If" I like the grip of course. I've told this story to a bunch of people through the years, but I think it's useful and relevant: I once got a replacement club (For a Ping Eye2 plus iron set I got as a gift that had a missing 5-iron) with a brand new Avon Chamois jumbo grip and didn't like it because it felt slimy. Well, I didn't know that at the time as I figured it didn't matter if I hated the grip because I just wanted the club and could change the grip later if I didn't like it. Generally I don't have problems getting used to grips, but it was so much worse for me than any grip I ever had and ended up changing it for a Golf Pride tour wrap to match the others as I could never get used to it. So whether you have new grips that you don't like or old grips that got slick, change them to something that you like and you will be really happy!
I have arthritis in my fingers and I've moved to mid-size and they definitely help. I'm back in Devon for a few months this Summer where could I go to test out a number of deferent grips to find the best for me? I'd like to try the jumbo max and others.
Another tip is to clean the grips regularly- I get a kitchen scourer, and with just dishwashing detergent and hot water, give them a scrub, rinse off, dry, and they feel 6 months younger! I do this once every 12 weeks or so, and it makes the grips stay grippier for longer. The amount of grease from your hands, either from sweat or from half-way sausage rolls builds up quite a lot.
Mark, here's something that will help: Get a linoleum hook blade for your knife (Stanley 11-961 2-1/16). The knife goes under the grip, and cuts upward, so that the sharp edge can't make contact with your shaft.
hey Mark, I'm glad you didn't put a putter grip on your chipper, although it's an interesting idea. check this out: b. Cross-section (See Fig. 19) (i) For clubs other than putters the grip must be circular in cross-section, except that a continuous, straight, slightly raised rib may be incorporated along the full length of the grip, and a slightly indented spiral is permitted on a wrapped grip or a replica of one. bueno.
I regrip every year. May be overkill instead of two years, but I honestly think the type of grip is player dependent but having fresh grips regardless is super important.
Use a hook blade and a grip tape remover, plus a small vice and it's so easy to replace grips. Just picked up a few of these grips to try them against my Plus 4 grips. They look really nice and I like the pattern. We'll see I guess. How did you like them and will you keep them?
Refresh my grips. Mine are really old now but I’m reluctant to change them as that’s over £100. I’m only just getting my swing to a good place having started back up a year and a bit ago, and would like to get new clubs. So spending that money on grips doesn’t seem to make much sense if I’m just going to get new or second hand clubs. Think I need to get better quicker so I can get the right clubs for me with fresh grips.
Funny this came out today . I added .75 loft on driver today, but has a spine align grip. Could not stop it going left. Going back to the 9 degree setup ,
Refresh my grips, I am sold on this as I have changed to midsize and have one series of irons with the jumbo grips and if I was braver I would go to jumbo for all my irons. 😉
Funny coming from the guy who nevers cleans his clubs/grooves! ;) perhaps you should test the effects of dirty grooves on spin too. I've been using the GP Z cord grip but I think it's time I try the tacky stuff again so this is interesting to me.
is there any difference on shots or how grips feel dependent on how you put them on?? i know there are some grips purposed design is to be installed by just air. this would make it less messy to install and quicker to replace worn grips. but is taped better than air? would they twist in your hand on hard swings, move, then mess up your round or practice until you fixed them? i am considering going the way of air installed grips. i also use oversize grips with extra layers of tape and plan on Jumbo grips the next change.
Use a hook bladed utility blade to prevent graphite shaft damage!
... and save your fingers!
Same. The hook bladed "carpet knife" works wonders!
I agree, a hooked blade and if using a vice a shaft protector.

I usually REFRESH MY GRIPS once a season. Doesn't make a huge dent in my handicap, but it definitely improves my feel and confidence.
Great video. I seem to recall the lads at TXG found that with those Tour wrap style tacky grips players were swinging them 2-3 mph faster.
I've just got my driver re gripped with these to see how they are if I like them the rest of the set will follow suit
REFRESH MY GRIPS!!! I have just had the CPx fitted and they feel great.
Refresh my grips, I change my grips every year, and have used the GP tour wraps midsize for about 15 years.. I think they are by mikes the best grips on the market but I’m definitely going to give these new ones a go.. 👍👍
refresh my grips. I went to the +4 on my irons and jumbo on the driver, 3 wood, and hybrid.
re grip all my clubs!
The knife goes under the grip, and cuts upward, so that the sharp edge can't make contact with your shaft.
very tempted to put that grip on my old 975D and give it a try on the next 18
Refresh my grips, yes please. I like the CP2 wrap midsize, lovely & tacky.
hey Mark, I'm glad you didn't put a putter grip on your chipper, although it's an interesting idea. check this out:
b. Cross-section (See Fig. 19)
(i) For clubs other than putters the grip must be circular in cross-section, except that a continuous, straight, slightly raised rib may be incorporated along the full length of the grip, and a slightly indented spiral is permitted on a wrapped grip or a replica of one. bueno.
Brilliant video Mark, refresh my grips
I regrip every year. May be overkill instead of two years, but I honestly think the type of grip is player dependent but having fresh grips regardless is super important.
Use a hook blade and a grip tape remover, plus a small vice and it's so easy to replace grips. Just picked up a few of these grips to try them against my Plus 4 grips. They look really nice and I like the pattern. We'll see I guess. How did you like them and will you keep them?
Refresh my grips! Very interesting - will give them a go
Refresh my grips.
Going back to the 9 degree setup ,
I always leave the tape off the top of the shaft so that moisture can escape through the hole in the butt end of the grip.
Just bought new clubs so won’t be regripping for a while but I like the look of those. And no I don’t own a grip trainer.
Refresh my grips
I still have the original maxfli grips on my 20 year old irons. Not sure whether I should regrip or replace the entire set
Refresh my grips! I absolutely agree in fresh grips. I however do not like the Align grips. The spine down the back puts me off!
Use an air compressor to fit new grips, use masking tape instead of double sided and white spirit, easy to change the next time no mess and smell.
is there any difference on shots or how grips feel dependent on how you put them on?? i know there are some grips purposed design is to be installed by just air. this would make it less messy to install and quicker to replace worn grips. but is taped better than air? would they twist in your hand on hard swings, move, then mess up your round or practice until you fixed them? i am considering going the way of air installed grips. i also use oversize grips with extra layers of tape and plan on Jumbo grips the next change.
Great stuff lads love the interaction between you! Hope you cleaned up mom’s kitchen!🙏
