    Enjoyed your sharing your father with us and I appreciate that he's probably shared a lot of his times with you and vice versa. You've been blessed to have him and likewise he's blessed with you. Keep on blessing us with your craft and lessons, please, thank you!

    Because of this video, I did my first 3 mushrooms . I enjoyed the way how you explained the processes. I'm completely new in this domain, I'm not an artist, I do-it for myself for fun. Thank you.

      We can always learn something new no matter our experience.
      I learned long ag that when someone says they know everything there is to know or their way is the only way , to listen politely and then find someone else to learn from.

    Really enjoyed this one. When I was growing up in Chicago during the early '60s I used to go with my dad and his Bohemian friend (he is the one that really knew mushrooms) to the Cook County Forest Preserves to collect mushrooms. The one that I remember most is one that he called the red top. Light colored shaft with a bright red cap.

    The things you present are well done and it is a talent in itself. Slowly recovering from a few operations and my wife as well, this retired manual machinist is transitioning to small wood crafts to eventually make ends meet, and even be a blessing to others. I am starting from the ground up. Your presentations keep my interests alive as I make my first beefy carving table with some of the features you illustrated. Keep up the good work. You are a blessing to others.

    I've been learning and listening alot from older people recently, It wasn't always that way. When I was young, it seems that I always was looking for 'good boy' compliments from mom and dad that I was used to hearing and trying to impress them. Pay close attention to what advice these people have to give, at any age!!!

      Man, I just started, and the "good job it looks great" stuff already bothers me. I'm looking for criticism of my work, not because I think it's necessarily bad, but because it will make me better. Some people don't seem to understand that, and they think I'm being "too hard" on myself.

  • @Creampuff78
    @Creampuff78 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I don’t usually comment on videos but this one I think deserves one.....or two ;-) lol
    I like many others now days have started turning. Few months now. First with some pens and have moved into bowls with many different woods. Eastern Red Cedar being my favorite with all the contrasting colors and of course the awesome smell when being worked lol. Having started with brute force (carbide) and finally moving to actually leaning technique for a better finish (less sanding) with “real” chisels after buying our first beginner set.
    I have watched a lot of videos lately and while it is not true with all videos, it seems most of them seem to have one thing in common. Self promoting, look at me, I am the best, better than you undertones/attitudes simply trying to promote themselves and their channels for the notoriety and monetary gain it can lead to rather than promoting the art and enjoyment of turning. All under the premise of “teaching” and “helping pass the craft” to others.
    I can honestly and thankfully say that I didn’t get that feeling at all while watching this video, and it was very refreshing to see/feel someone passing knowledge simply for the sake of knowledge and not for the sake of self promotion. Obviously there was a little promotion in there but it definitely didn’t feel that it was the reason for the video.
    Great work with the wood, great job explaining without over simplifying or over explaining, and thank you for taking the time to make the video and sharing the skills, knowledge, and techniques on to us FNG’s trying to learn trade. Very much enjoyed it!

      Thanks, and I hope you get out in the shop and make a few to give away or sell.
