Thank you for your videos. Something I’ve noticed you do several times which I don’t understand is the use of C# on a Dm7 chord. Is there a theoretical explanation for how you make this work?

Depending on which one you’re referring to, C# can be an approach note (like chromatics) or it can be borrowed from D melodic minor. Check out some jazz legend’s playing. @@Pennmusic2019 The one that stuck out to me is the one in Ex5. It sounds hip (which of course is what matters), but it's just seems surprising to have it on a down beat and as part of an arpeggio like this. This is good though because it's expanding my mind about what can work!
