    This air assisted treadle hammer is absolutely the thing I've been in need of. It is absolutely awesome ! Roy it looks on the video like the addition of the 6x6 post tightened that wall right up and stabilized your treadle hammer substantially. I installed my treadle hammer a few days ago and upon first operation I wasn't very impressed. So I heated an 18 inch long piece of 5/8 square bar on one end and went at it with the the air assist and was left looking at this thing like a dog does when they are really confused by , you know with their ears up cocking their head to the side with a very alert and studious look in their eyes and on their face. So I reheated the bar and went to my anvil and started in with my 2 lb cross peen. I told my Wife , I just moved metal faster with my 2lb cross peen than I did with this air assisted treadle hammer with a 16 pound sledge hammer. So after a little thought I decided what adjustments to start with. I took the spring chain up 1 link and moved the air cylinder up from the bottom to the middle hole. Then I turned the compressor up to 130psi. this time when I activated the air assist and the 16lb sledge struck the 5/8 square bar I grinned a little. I then moved the air cylinder from the middle hole to the top hole and again activated the system. This time when the 16lb sledge struck the square bar I smiled nodded my head and said aloud, yeah, that's it baby and continued the process briefly to the square bars detriment lol. Roy you stated your goal with this piece of equipment on this video and other videos about this hammer and the goal has been the same every time you mentioned it. I would like to say THANK YOU !!! This goal of yours has been ACHIEVED!!!

    Man, that looks amazing, Roy! I really need to bite the bullet and get one. Great job with the design and follow through!

    Looks like a great step when one is ready - and i was pleasantly surprised by the price.
    I need to learn how to swing a hammer and move metal first so I will NOT be ordering one soon, but i am glad to see that there would probably be a nice option if i "need" one.
    Thank you for sharing so much of what you do.

    Looking forward, I hope, to the next version, your in-line treadle hammer design! I know it would be more expensive, but I think there's a real market out there for them. I would certainly get one.

    Been waiting to see this Roy! Going back to the group discussion we had last week there was a question that was not really answered. At what point does it become a powered hammer? 😁we could fill a phone book with ideas on that one!

    Hi roy really good product that you have made will you be doing any forge welding under it and if you forge weld something and then twist it dose it need to be at forge welding temperature

    • @ChristCenteredIronworks
      @ChristCenteredIronworks  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes I will be doing a lot of forge welds under the treadle hammer here in some upcoming videos... And Yes something welded And then twisted should be done at a welding heat

    So what is the stroke of that cylinder? I have a Treadle hammer I built with a 40# head and a 12" resting position above my anvil surface. I am wondering if I could use your air kit to power mine.

    Hello what's the largest hammer you can use with the air assist?
    thanks

  • @erikcourtney1834
    @erikcourtney1834 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    If people think this is to expensive they should go price one like John has at Black Bear Forge and it’s completely manual.
    Out of curiosity, how efficient would a heavier hammer be? Will the air cylinder handle it? Also will it cycle faster with a lighter hammer or is it pretty much as fast as you can push the pedal right now?

    • @ChristCenteredIronworks
      @ChristCenteredIronworks  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Agreed 💯! The hammer is a One Hit per press of the air pedal And will be the Same no matter how heavy the sledge hammer is.. that being said I designed this system to go up to 25 lbs ... So a heavier hammer will get a lot more work done then a light hammer in this configuration

    • @jeffcoffey4992
      @jeffcoffey4992 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Erik, I'm not Roy but I am using a 16lb sledge hammer in mine and it hits hard and fast. See my post here for the simple adjustments I made. I did not modify anything just used the adjustments built into the treadle hammer.

      @@ChristCenteredIronworks Is there a *Warranty* on the part itself by the manufacturer ? Or you

    • @ChristCenteredIronworks
      @ChristCenteredIronworks  ปีที่แล้ว

      There is no warranty on the Air cylinder or it's parts but I take care of My customers regardless... As longevity is concerned This is the most economical Air cylinder and fittings I could find. I am trying to keep the cost of getting into power equipment as low as I can as a manufacturer. If they become a issue in the future then I will have to get premium Air cylinders and fittings and have to charge a lot more. When I was looking at the cost difference It would have been an additional $150 usd per kit so we will see.
