Coloring food, especially dairy, is from the old world. My great grandmother did this with homemade butter from her 2 dairy cows. Only 'poor' people used lard to cook with, but the butter from her cows was very pale in the winter due to dry feed (its the chlorophyll that gives butter its color). She would juice carrots to add color to the butter and cheese so it didn't look like unappetizing lard. This practice of tinting dairy products just stayed on in America, which is why cheese is orange.

When my husband and I were first married, I made a pot roast. I was so proud of my first home cooked meal I had made for my new husband. We sat down to eat and after a few bites, he got up and took his plate into the kitchen without saying a word. I thought he was going for seconds. Yes, we are very crazy about it. It is just completely normal in all Italian families, we are exposed as children to the best artisanal, fresh foods. The other day I saw a youtuber girl that was showing on her channel what her American hosts (she was visiting the US) buy at the supermarket like chips (3 different kinds), sugary drinks, cereals, and very little fresh meat, fish, and vegetables that is normal in Italy. She was completely shocked. We also buy small quantities every few days and do not freeze much at all. It is a completely different universe.

The other day I saw a youtuber girl that was showing on her channel what her American hosts (she was visiting the US) buy at the supermarket like chips (3 different kinds), sugary drinks, cereals, and very little fresh meat, fish, and vegetables that is normal in Italy. She was completely shocked. We also buy small quantities every few days and do not freeze much at all. It is a completely different universe.
Nothing could be more true! Here in Italy it is perfectly normal to buy food two or three times a week. I only keep ice cream in my freezer.😂😂 "Good food" here is popular culture. We talk about food even when we eat 😅😅
We love food. For the italians food is family, food is life, food is love. We show our love with food, we cook for our love, we cook for our family. You are sure that he/she loves you when he/she give you a little piece of his food.
