- Bob live on NBC October 3rd, 1960 with Bobby Darin, Patti Page, Joan Crawford, and the Hollywood Deb Stars for 1960 join Bob for an hour of music and comedy. Look for Deb Stars Paula Prentiss and Shelley Fabares.
It’s Bob Hope he was a GIANT, THE BEST EVER AT THE OSCAR’S.. How does Any1 Put a Thumbs down... think about all the Giants are Gone.. Hope, Sinatra, Dino Duke Wayne, Davis jr..,Bishop, Stewart, Ball, Rickels Etc. Etc. Etc..We degreased In Entertainment
Because our culture has degenerated. A largely uneducated populace vis-a-vis music, film, theatre, literature. (And almost wholly ignorant of the natural sciences and mathematics).
I love Bobby's mack the knife, video!!! He's way too cool!! Love him!!
This aired 18 days before I was born. Bob Hope always had really good monologues - topical without being patronizing; critical while being respectful at the same time.
First thing I said when his monologue was done was, that was one of his best!! I love Bob!!
Bob and Bobby, a tough pair to beat.
This special was much better than the ones he did later in the 60s.@@tonychristo8733
I love Bob Hope. & he was always funny. The Chinese restaurant sketch, funny as it was, could never be done in today's PC culture.
None of that old humor could be alright today…yet back then, everyone laughed because everyone was a target.
Love the bit with Darin and Hope together...it doesn't get any better than that!!
What a talent Bobby Darin!
So sad Mr.Darin died at the age of 37 of a heart condition he had and died after the surgery. He and Sandra Dee were married. He had arole in a movie,"Captain Newman,MD" with Gregory Peck,Angie Dickinson,Eddie Albert.A very good movie with Mr.Darin playing a shell shocked patient. He was very good in that part.
Bobby was a good guest star!! He did a great job on 'laugh in' !!
Joan Crawford 💜💜💜
What a talent Mr. Bob Hope!
Elegant Joan Crawford.
Love Joan...great woman and such class.
Those debs were so beautiful, especially Shelley Fabares and Paula Prentiss, and Bob Hope couldn't have been funnier, especially with Joan Crawford by his side. Those 1961 Buicks were pretty cool as well and I'm sure there is a 1961 Buick in a barn somewhere waiting to be restored.
IMO ALL of the 1961 cars from ALL manufacturers (Buicks included) looked very mundane and pedestrian. They wouldn’t start looking really good again until 1964 IMO.
three of Elvis' Co-stars, Letitia Roman, Shelley Fabares and Jenny Maxwell (got spanked by Elvis in "Blue Hawaii"!) ... not bad!
Great monologue… if you are of a certain age you will laugh at the Loretta Young doorknob gag.
Vicki Trickett is best known for co-starring in "The Three Stooges Meet Hercules" (1962).
We weren’t doing “kines” in 1960. Videotape was introduced in late 1957 and in wide use in 1958. Kinescopes were seen in the West for delayed broadcasts of color programming but by 1960 color videotape had been introduced. After that kinescopes were used for delayed broadcasts to the few stations that did not yet have tape machines (Guam for example).
Carole Wells later co-starred in "PISTOLS 'N' PETTICOATS" (1966-'67).
Well, who knew that before Chrysler was a sponsor of Bob Hopes specials, Buick would be a sponsor, I can’t wait to see what the ads have to say
Buick sponsored Bob's NBC specials from 1957 through '61.
@@fromthesidelinesAfter previously being sponsored by Chevrolet...Ford took a turn in the 70s, so he hit the trifecta
Kruschev was bounced 4 years later during the World Series when the Reds didn't make it.
Program was prerecorded 59:26
Can you post beautiful 1960s singer / actress Connie Francis on some of the Bob Hope shows ?
The begging half of it was replaced by a kine scope copy ,due to possible tape damage on that part, but it got back to video tape after that.
Introduced by Frank Barton.
Hollywood Deb-Star Jenny Maxwell looked like she was stoned. LOL
I remember showing a scene of the Elvis Presley movie, 'Blue Hawaii,' to a friend of mine one time.
It was the scene where Elvis is driving with the schoolteacher and her foursome of female students in the convertible with him.
My friend was watching.......and then he sees her (Maxwell) with the mean look on her face. She played the role of the spoiled, miserable brat.
My friend looked both confused and curious and said, 'THAT one on the right looks like a real........BITCH!!'. LOL
So there you go.
Two decades later she was shot by her estranged husband
The black commercial slugs should have been tightened to :03 or :05 prior to uploading this.
I made a mistake half of the video tape exist .
+Michael Mcgee By what do you mean only half of the tape is extant?. what happened?.
This does not look like kinescope .Like it was shot on a normal movie camera simultaneously.Bob really hated that kine scope look
The majority of this show is on videotape. For some reason, part of the introduction and Hope's monologue were "lifted" from a kinescope.
Only Paula Prentiss ,where the boys are and Shelley Fabre ,up to a point , would succeed.
I wouldn't call Shelley Fabares a true "deb" star, being that she was better known than any of the others at the time, thanks to being on DONNA REED. And Paula Prentiss would co star with Hope the following year in the film BACHELOR IN PARADISE.
She ddi that year what ever happen to baby Jane. This must have been right before the film.
What the hell happened to American culture?
See Netnenyahu's tirade at Fink's Bar and find out.
Sadly, no more variety shows!
Imposed diversity, political correctness, SJWs, MeToo, Woke, etc.
The Beatles.
Oh, did I mention I have brown eyes like Shelley Fabares?👀
Jenny Maxwell is best known today for being the "Babysitter" on "THE TWILIGHT ZONE" episode "Long Distance Call" {3/31/61} ["No one! He didn't talk to NO ONE.....he just sat up in his room all day, talking on that toy telephone of his....HONEST!"]. She passed away in 1980.
Not quite. She is best remembered for her role in the Elvis Presley box office smash, 'Blue Hawaii'. In fact, she got the role because Norman Taurog, the director of the Presley movie; saw Maxwell ON that episode of 'The Twilight Zone'.
She was murdered in 1981.
Yeah. A shame that happened. 😟
Interesting the audio is real high-fidelity almost stereo, like it was recorded on audiotape, yet the video is definitely a kinnie (film). My guess is they used mag-stock for audio sync'd to film. Too crisp for a typical optical track.
Very interesting indeed. If only all kinescopes were preserved that way. They would be more enjoyable.
Most of the show is on videotape- part of the opening and Hope's monologue was "kinnied".
Barry I. Grauman Yeah, the tape ops probably had issues with the video portion tracking properly on the quad tape (whenever this was re-mastered years later) and used the kinnie as a replacement to complete the program - like other early videotaped shows that are being / have been preserved. I'll assume Les Brown was the musical director - but surprised he's not credited!
During this period, David Rose was Bob's musical director on these "Buick" specials.
Might have been an edit point has gone bad.
Now everyone’s offended. Comedy is dead in 2023
All of his jokes are so tacky, but god damn do I laugh hard at them lol
But i wanted to see...Tales of Wells Fargo..not this
