So I did what you did with the rocks on top of the glass and a few months later I woke up to a cracked tank. I've had mine for 3 yrs now. I added nothing but river rock after switching out the tank but the rocks are jow on top of 3 to 4 inches of sand. No issues now after 3 yrs.
I personally have never had any issues in the past with rocks smashing the bottom panel but from my experience the key is to make sure that the rocks are firmly in place. Turtles are surprisingly strong animals and can move and knock rocks over. I didn't do it in this tank but previously I've put rocks on egg crate to prevent the rocks damaging it and also siliconed the rocks together (this doesn't look that good though).
Yeah I've now realised that too... This means she's going to grow way bigger. Fortunately according to baby names websites Rico is still a fairly common girl's name so I'm gomnna stick with it
you need higher things for him to climb on so he can get more air, like a pile of rocks that get him out of the water easliy or drift wood. i love the set up!
Awesome set up..btw my 4 y.o RES hates eating her pellets..always wan dried prawns..even though I stop giving her..she can go for days without eating the pellets until I no choice feed her shrimps again.. any advice? Tough love treatment perhaps?
Have you tried giving her any other brand of pellets? If she’s only wanting to eat the shrimp you can get natural mixes of turtle food, in the UK we have a common brand called King British but if you’re in the US I just had a look and Zoo Med Gourmet may be better. Not an expert but I know from first hand experience finding the right turtle food can be a real headache!
@@natarium I given Zoomed pellets at 1st..it enjoyed it..but after some time..It became addicted to dried shrimps haha..been giving it fresh veg n all sorts of pellets but it just avoid all of em. Picky eater
She's a River Cooter (I think there's further subspecies of them but I can't remember which she is). They're not super common, especially online, but here in the UK the most widely available turtles are these and common musk turtles. If you think your turtle looks like her there's a big chance that yours is a Yellow Belly Slider which are very similar and much more common it seems, especially in the USA. Good luck finding out!
A lot of turtles do well on their own however I agree with you, she currently is in a pond with 2 other terrapins and many fish. In the future I'm going to build her a raised pond where she can have more friends. Thanks for watching!
Amazing! Your turtle is very fortunate to have you 😊
I was just thinking the same thing. Awesome home!

Cool 👌
Cool setup. Rico is a female, btw. Males have very long front claws for courtship.

I thought the same to begin with however now she is able to get a good grip on the egg crate & can climb up super easily
I think he has enough rocks to step balance and breathe

@@natarium thank you so much I looked up yellow bellied turtle and it was very very similar to mine so I’m pretty sure it’s mine thank you 😊
@@natarium I was going to say Peninsula Cooter, but I haven’t seen many River Cooters and the carapace markings make me uncertain.
Why the thrilling music lol
For the exciting and thrilling content of course
Where did you learn to use a jigsaw dude, would have done better with a knife and fork 😂😂 good vid 👍.
Haha, still getting used to using the jigsaw and working with acrylic so give me some slack 😂Thanks for watching!
