Most thorough break down of a DC 07 on TH-cam !!! I have one that I love and is still working in 2021. I bought it for $10 used ten years ago. I've had to make repairs over the years and I take it apart to clean. This video however is so thorough I now want to take mine apart and look for everything that needs replacement, right down to the seals. Thanks for the exceptional video. Just fabulous!!!
Thank you! I just bought a Dyson DC07 at a Goodwill(used) for $12.99 US. It is a mess and I needed to know how to take it apart for cleaning. You have really helped me.
This is such an excellent video with so much confidence and knowledge of the DC07! I've had mine for almost 17 years and wanted to give her a full clean/replace worn parts work over! THANK YOU!!!
Thanks for the comment! You'll have yours fit for another 17 years soon enough! (I'd recommend a new internal floor head hose, a new filter set and a set of new baseplate wheels if everything else runs OK perks them right up! (inner hose needs some twisting adjustment once fitted so it clamps the floor head down to the carpet properly)
this video saved the day for me thank you! my husband works for the maintenance team for our apartment building and someone left their dyson behind! I've been wanting a dyson for as long as i can remember.
Extremely helpful! I'm resurrecting an '04 DC07 and this is really the only video anyone need watch. The parts are being washed and I'll be re-assembling using your next video shortly. Thank you.
Fantastic! It was time for me to clean up my DC07 again, and this time I want to do a more thorough overhaul. I found your video very helpful. Thank you so very much!
Thanks for sharing the part at the end about the chemical welding. That explains why I never see anyone take out those 3 screws and further disassemble the cyclone assembly. Cheers!
Awesome, glad you enjoyed and will find it useful! How filthy is it? Luckily with 07's being the age they are you could replace both hoses, brushroll, belts and filters with decent new pattern parts (or genuine nos if you hunt around ebay) for under £50 total! Then a good refurb and voila, a £249.99 as new dc07 once more.
Was going to buy a new replacement but after watching this decided to fully strip down and service my dc07i as it seems identical apart from the HEPA filter. Have a new appreciation for it seeing how serviceable everything is. Also repaired the hose that was torn near top by taking apart and shortening and reattaching to the clamp and looks okay. Wait for it all to dry and we'll see if it's any better 🙂👍 thank you!
Nice, well done for saving it! Dysons used to be really repairable, up until the dc33 era. You'll find any part for your 07 for peanuts, even new motors are under £20! The hepa filter was just an option, either type fits all the machines so don't let that fool your parts searching! There's some differences with clutched and non clutched brushroll parts but bar that, the parts fit each other! I've seen people make multi coloured 07's too!
@@beko1987 yes it's funny you say that as it reminds me of Lego especially with the coloured plastic parts and straight away I thought how you could make a rainbow hoover 😂 I'm definitely looking to do that over time, I have a red and grey one but every now and then I'll order a random colour part. Ordered a hose before I realized I could fix it and was missing the brush nozzle so ordered a blue set. And so it begins... 🤣👍
@@beko1987 also its loooads better, motor is dusty inside from using it on plaster dust before I valued it so that may die one day but I'm going to try running it with the post motor filter removed when new ones arrive in the hope it may clean itself out a bit 🤞
Thanks for these videos (Strip down and re-assembly) helped me replace both filters, belt (non clutched version) and a very good clean-out, DC07 now working well.
I've always heard about what superb machines Dysons are. I got this model from craigslist FREE section today. It's a POS. VERY poor build quality. I am SO glad I never plunked down the $700 (or whatever they went for) to get one. Thanks for the video! I'm trying to fix the one I got. It'll be a great bulk material vacuum- saving the expensive HEPA Kirby bags I use. Also, thank you for moving through this quickly. It's quite evident you've done this a time or two. I love that I can go to TH-cam and watch an expert perform a task I've never done. So helpful. Anyway, thanks again and have a great day!
Good luck, it should turn out like new! The provlem making these videos is you either spend 20 minutes talking about each part or crack on and hope the pause button works!
Found this video, and the associated rebuild one, extremely helpful in replacing a damaged head. Only thing is that it says you will need a long Torx screwdriver to remove the clutch cover so I went and ordered a set, only to find that a standard length one will do the job perfectly well (as Beko himself in fact concludes at about the 13min mark - sadly didn't see that in time)
I love my old DC07s I finally worked out how to fix the trumpet noise some of those make. I tend to wash everything with the water hose. I also have a foot operated vac so I can keep the dust down during disassembly.
hi Robonza, the dc07 and dc14 both can make a trumpet noise, I find the hepa filter under the cyclone can have a loose rubber gasket. I pull the gasket to the edge of the filter wall and hot glue the gasket back in place. sometimes you have to go around the whole filter and it might take more pressure to put back in. but it will fix that trumpet noise
Ah yes, it can be quite tricky without some force in the right place! Glad you got it off, don't refit it until you've tested it all works (can still turn the clutch without the knob to test)
Many thanks for posting this video, my venerable DC07 brush control gave up the ghost with a grinding noise / burning smell and I couldn't figure out how to get the end cap off the height adjuster. I now need to get a longer T15 screwdriver, but at least I have an idea what to do. Cheers!
I changed both filters in mine and gave it a good cleaning. I didn’t take it apart this much, but I did give it a good once over. I noticed it’s getting pretty hot when running for any longer than 10 minutes. It actually makes my bedroom hot because of this. Is this normal? If not, what would you suggest I do?
Excellent video @Beko1987. For whatever reason the swinging/change over valve carriage mechanism (14:53 - 15:41 of this video) does not automatically slide/divert to the lower hose when the DC07 is reclined. I have to manually push the valve down. Would you know how to fix this?
My DC07 started a burning smell, think brushes are at the limit, I've ordered a new pair, I'll be using your video to get to the motor, fingers crossed it's not the motor itself. Many thanks.
After changing the brushes and assembly, it worked well, I managed to do the house, but along came the pop sound and the burning smell, initially thought the brushes were bedding in, but it got worse, the motors I've seen have had some reviews on them overheating, any recommendations on a good motor that's in budget. Many thanks.
Chaz Evans: How are the carbon brush leads attached? Are they soldered, clamped, or crimped? After watching several teardown videos, I am thinking a new motor install would be the better choice. That way you get new brushes, new commutator, and new motor bearings.
@@tomheringer2047 the brushes were fitted easy just pull the wires from the lugs, in the end the motor still burned out, so I ordered a new motor, I got one cheap, but it's not as powerful, 1800 w but still does the job.
Thanks so much for this. I was gifted a used one, but the beater bar won't move. Im pretty good at taking my vacuum apart and doing thorough cleans. This Dyson I don't think has ever been cleaned. The prefilter foam pad fell out and disintegrated. Make me worry about the shape of the permanent filter. You made this look so easy, I will tackle it and order the new parts needed including filters. Thanks so much
Thanks for the great video. Question: The rubber seal on my motor says Panasonic Only. Do the compatible Qualtex motors work for replacing the DC07s with Panasonic motors? I live in the United States.
Short of taking the top off and manually manipulating the centre rod it's a pain I'm afraid... The bottom flap will break if you do anything else than release the latch from inside. Then hopefully it's just jammed up with crap inside and works fine after.
It's not too bad although easier with the machine stripped down, but if you undo the back screw that's flush to the surface, remove the filter holder and that elbow should move out of place and to the side. Then you can see the back of the clip and a few love taps with a hammer and screwdriver pops it out. New one pops in from above 🔨
Thank you for your great video could you please advise me for the DC07 post filter I have just the pad filter fitted ? Do I need the cartridge type as well Thank you in anticipation of your reply
Easiest way to check is remove the pre filter and the cyclone and turn it on. Is the suction really really good from the chassis? If so, keep it running and put the bin on. Does it immediately block right up and blow the release valve? If yes there's a blockage. If the filters are really bad it can cause it too, you'll be able to tell when you remove them 😉
Very good. However, you didn't take out the plastic dust bin door latch. This little thing breaks easily and the owners wind up using tape to hold the bin door closed if they don't replace it.
No you don't remove the latch until it breaks, otherwise it breaks! Next time I need to I can do a video, I've got several spare. But it just pops out and the new one clips in
Hi great vid. I was after some advice I have bought a motor for a dc07 but it doesn't have any connectors on the wires. Can I still use it or have I bought the wrong motor? Many thanks
