A final indignity was that no one had measured the length of the vault next to Prince Albert's in the royal mausoleum at Frogmore. When this was finally done, the planners realized the Queen's coffin was half an inch longer than the space aloted for it in the vault. Since the royal party had already set out on the journey to Windsor, there was no opportunity to switch coffins--even if the King would allow this to be done, which given the royal family's previous interactions with the undertakers, is highly unlikely. Therefore, workers had to chisel out enough room to allow the coffin to fit with ease. This most probably weakened that side of the vault and sooner or later there will possibly be cracking or collapse on that side due to their being less support for the weight of the top with its statue of Queen Victoria on that side of the vault than the designers and builders had intended. Also, there was trouble locating the top for the Queen's side. It was stored for several decades at Windsor Castle and it was with great difficulty that the officials found sometone who had worked at the Castle long enough to remember its delivery and storage place. Queen Victoria certainly would NOT have been amused!
6:10- I've always liked this photograph as I can easily imagine that Victoria was totally ignoring the camera while continuing to embroider and talking to her youngest child Beatrice, Princess Henry of Battenberg! In fact, it almost seems a freeze frame from a film of her speaking!

I think her death mask looked better than she did alive. In repose, gravity smooths out and reduces many aged features.
