      This video is very concerning:
      th-cam.com/video/db2_qRHLUV4/w-d-xo.html
      4:12 C-Webb says to Shaq; it just took you and some dirty refs to beat us.
      Isaiah Thomas (Detroit Piston) and Barron Davis laughed.
      C-Webb been goes on to say something like "I'm not trying to get fired, I love the NBA!"
      Shaq just laughs - what can he say?! 😮
      But if Shaq knew he was innocent, why would he just laugh?!
      What do you think?

      And then this one:
      th-cam.com/video/tcOt6fWIHdI/w-d-xo.html
      Both Steve Smith (Trail Blazers) and C-Webb (Sacramento Kings) seemed very much like; c'mon Shaq! Stop pretending....
      Doesn't look good for Shaq and the 3-peat Lakers to me....

      I'ma Lakers fan and that game was rigged. I've seen some blatantly rigged games throughout my lifetime, this was one of them, the NBA doesn't pick the winners/losers in a playoff series, but they do extend series' and force it to be decided in a game 7, they do have their favourites for ratings purposes and it's usually always about ratings, not that they favor a certain player or team directly but if it was going to be Kings vs Nets in the Finals, but they could do what they did to make it a Lakers Nets Final with a Shaq-Kobe 3 peat on the line, it was obvious what the league preferred. They did a similar thing in the 2016 NBA Finals when they suspended Draymond for Game 5 and threw Steph out of the game in Game 6, they let it be decided in 7 games because that Finals being over in 5 would have been disappointing but what that did is leave it to the injury gods who picked the Warriors to take down that year.

    I hate the NBA's logic of "we need a high profile team in the finals or ratings will suffer." Honestly, I could care less if the Lakers, Knicks, or Celtics aren't in the finals. In fact, I feel more interested in watching if there is an underdog type team in the finals, or if it's two teams that don't historically make it. People will watch the finals regardless. I doubt the casual fan will feel more inclined to watch the NBA finals just because the Lakers are in it.

    • @ianbent0n
      @ianbent0n 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      You're right. I think the motivation was the league wanted a Game 7 considering how popular that series was. I remember it was talked about as the "real" finals that year. And yes I do think this game was rigged, I don't think an honest person can watch the fourth quarter in real time and conclude otherwise.

    • @thatsarock
      @thatsarock 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They just wanted the revenue of another game.. But I do have to disagree with you.. Even tho the NBA league is a sport.. It's still entertainment.. And major markets draw bigger views.. For example.. The pheonix suns vs the Milwaukee bucks last year was one of the lowest watched finals ever. So yes..I can understand why they want big market teams to flourish.

    • @joesakic91
      @joesakic91 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Nelekets It has been the NBA's M.O. since 1980 where you have teams like the Boston Celtics, Chicago Detroit Pistons, Golden State Warriors, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, and San Antonio Spurs made the NBA Finals at least three times.
      Also since 1980, you have at least one NBA Finals involving these super/megastar players in Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Isiah Thomas, Michael Jordan, Hakeem Olajuwon, Shaquille O'Neal, Tim Duncan, Kobe Byrant, LeBron James, and Stephen Curry.
      For example in 2002, if the Sacramento Kings were in the NBA Finals, then, the Boston Celtics have to be there.
      That being said, a Lakers-Celtics 2002 NBA Finals would've been arguably better.

    @6:15: "Unclear how this merits a whistle": Kobe sticks his hand in above the opposing player's left wrist/forearm all the time so they can't lift up to shoot fluidly. That's not actually allowed even though it isn't a swiping motion. So when he went to pass the ball, they called a foul since Kobe's hand altered what the offensive player was doing. Legit call.
    @12.44: "There appears to be very little contact": Disagree. He reached in and impeded his dribbling by hitting his right arm. The camera angle you're using doesn't show it, so you will have to extrapolate what is taking place behind the King's player's body. Lakers player reaches in, clearly hits him with his arm, THEN the dribble is lost. That does not happen "before the contact". The foul is why he lost the dribble.

      What happened? The Kings lost all three and blew their chance to win it all in 2002.
      2003 was a better chance for the Kings with a better and deeper squad and a more solid defense until Chris Webber tore his lateral meniscus in his knee against the Dallas Mavericks.
      Now, the Kings have to suffer even more when other teams beat them to the punch for NBA titles and NBA Finals appearances since while they have a snakebitten hat trick.

    I thought the game was called mostly regularly in the first half and the beginning of the third quarter. Some good calls, some bad calls, but nothing really out of the ordinary.
    But then the wheels fell off the wagon, and just sunk into unseen fishy levels.

    • @doccholo905
      @doccholo905 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As a Kings fan, same. Shit happens for the first 3 quarters. Kings got some calls to go their way too. But the last few minutes of the 4th Quarter, and that Kobe Jon Jones style elbow to Mike Bibby's face in front of the ref, and the call went against Bibby? Well, at that point I guess the refs said "Aw fuck it, I think everyone already knows"

    • @mrmacross
      @mrmacross 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I went back into the game logs and video just to make sure I remembered this correctly, but this is actually the second time in the series in which Kobe elbowed a Kings defender in the nose, and the Kings got whistled for a foul. In game one, Doug Christie plays tights defense, gets an accident elbow to the nose from Kobe, and Dick Bavetta inexplicably calls a blocking foul.
      th-cam.com/video/PjEXupO9YqY/w-d-xo.html
      Kobe's elbow must've been sore from those times the Kings defenders contacted it with their faces.

    Here is a couple of facts that most sports fans don't understand, but they are true and you can realize I am correct by just a few minutes of research...
    There is no law preventing a referee in any sport here in the United States from making calls which help one team over another. It's true. The executives of the NBA, NFL, MLB or the NHL can instruct the referees to make calls that either help certain players or teams more likely to win. A league instructing it's officials to call games a certain way to help a team, or importantly using calls to make the games more exciting or to push a certain story line is completely legal. It's just considered the same as an employer, the league instructing it's employees, the refs to do their job the way they are instructed.
    Secondly, the media companies and networks who cover the leagues and broadcast the games have a financial interest in making sure that game fixing scandals are not known to the public. Does anybody think that ESPN or any other sports network who pays these leagues billions of dollars to broadcast their games is going to report on a game fixing story that will cut into their profits which come directly from broadcasting the games? Is ESPN going to break a game fixing story knowing full well that if the public found out the NBA was rigging games, it would cost them possibly millions of viewers? Of course not!
    No sports broadcast network or their parent companies are going to report game fixing, and lose money. The only time they ever talk about it is if they are forced to by a scandal that was uncovered by accident by the FBI like the Tim Donaghy scandal.
    The NBA is fixed for sure by the league to increase ratings, excitement and to extend series.
    This makes them tens of millions of dollars more than they would if they just let the games be played fairly.
    If you were in charge of the NBA, wouldn't you try to extend the series for extra money too especially if it were perfectly legal? Well it is. The key is to control the narrative, and just don't get caught.

    Yes, it was rigged. They don't call fouls on the lakers.
    Even against the sixers in 2001.
    Fisher hitting iverson's face, shooting arm and no fouls called.
    Shaq hits mutumbo's face with his elbow when he takes a shot, and no offensive foul.
    Lakers are fake champions to me.
    I cannot unsee those no calls by the refs

    The Kings were absolutely robbed in this game, full stop. Ronnie Nunn is defending his guys but idk how you watch those clips of these absurd fouls against the Kings and defend the refs, there has to be accountability which starts with admitting the refs blew this game at best, at worst it was rigged. Lakers had 27 free throws in the 4th Q!!! That's a lot for an entire game and they got that many in one quarter. Unacceptable for the NBA which is only looking out for their $$$ rather than the integrity of the game and letting the players, coaches, and teams decide the outcome game regardless of star players or franchise market size. Also I'm not a Kings fan so unbiased opinion here.

    As others have said, the problem with this is that the timing and frequency of fouls favored the Lakers were really what people had a problem with. The Lakers getting 15 more free throws and 7 more fouls to key players is indicative of an overall difference in the officiating. Beyond individual calls refs try to call balanced games and the overall frequency of foul calls is definitely on their minds mid game. While many of the fouls in the early game could be legitimate, it’s the run itself preceded not just by foul call precedents like illegal screens but also knowledge of foul trouble and foul call frequency that’s the problem. The refs made adjustments to call things they hadn’t before but who that change favored overall is important particularly for that 4th quarter.
