    It’s such a brilliant solo, fits the song perfectly. It’s flashy and shows he can really play, but at the same time it serves the song melodically without getting in the way.

    Glenn Tilbrook is very underrated. An amazing guitarist who always played the tastiest lines.

    “If you don’t understand the chord progression, then you’ll just be memorizing a load of fret numbers and tab numbers, and you won’t really understand what’s going on.” You just summed up my 40 years of playing.

    Squeeze really don’t get the props they deserve. They took the notion of Pop songs to literary heights. And as ever, gaining insight into the brilliance of arraignment and theory applied to technique in order to achieve musicality is what I dig so much about your teaching. It’s why I eagerly became a Patron of your channel. Many thanks.

    Glenn Tilbrook is rightly lauded for his songwriting but he's an excellent guitarist too and that aspect is often overlooked. He's a big Hendrix fan too.Thanks for this, great instruction as usual.

    Thank you so much! I've been buggin you about this one for a while. Glenn Tilbrook's got the whole package.
    1. Beautiful Voice
    2. Amazing Songwriter (of course needs Difford for those lyrics)
    3. Guitar God (saw him in a small club playing Hendrix on an acoustic behind his head)

    Glen is a highly underrated player that can move around the board with the most well constructed solos in rock. Soloing is great, but a thoughtful flowing solo across interesting chord progressions is stellar.

    Not even half way through my first vid from this guy, and he's definitely my favorite YT teacher I've found, yet.... and I've watched a lot! Great balance, pace, and sneaks in real wisdom here and there. Take heed, any new players watching this! Great stuff!

    Best lesson on youtube for seasoned guitarists, notes and the theory behind it. It actually makes it easier for me to learn and remember the solo as opposed to just learning note for note, thank you sir!🤘

    I have a bit of history with this song. Back in 2017 I suffered a stroke which affected my ability to play guitar/gig. So I used this song as my benchmark to try and relearn how to play.... And I learned it note for note.. the song and solo inside out ... but ... that bloody descending run!!
    This is not an easy song to master but your break down is clear and easy to follow. This is far the best document/lesson I have seen on the song. Ironically it is not a song I expected from channel that is a celebration of everything quirky and left field about guitar music. Superb work as always and a rare treat to boot. Thank you.
    18:17 - totally nailed it.

    Such a nice change seeing this, thank you. As a few others have mentioned/implied, Squeeze and XTC are hardly ever seen as bands worthy of much attention, let alone examining their solos. A fellow kid of mine in late 70s high school learned how to play this. Blew me away.... And now, years later, you've inspired me to take a shot at it.

    You, my friend, are thee greatest unknown guitarist on this Earth. I first heard you teach The Pretenders' KID solo and brought back a flood of emotions. Same with this solo. Each lesson is so fluid, especially the Johnny Marr ones. I only dabble on guitar. I'm a drummer of 40 years. But still you are an inspiration. Bravo.

    Fantastic! Important to note ... Tilbrook didn't just write the solo, he wrote the whole tune. Big fan of both Difford and Tilbrook, but floored thinking how Glenn wrote this song around some Difford lyrics. Probably my favorite Squeeze song ... as well as solo.

    • @MrFrampo56
      @MrFrampo56 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      He always wrote the music. Difford just the lyrics. Not ‘just ‘ in a demeaning way. They are geniuses. Utterly superb. Glenn’s guitar skills are amazing. I’ve seen him twice live. Fantastic.

    Fantastic lesson and of course you are an amazing player! I always loved both Squeeze & The Cars from that period and specifically Glenn Tilbrook & Elliot Easton guitar playing! The common denominator I think to both of their bands was there publicly acknowledged respect for The Beatles as songwriters. I remember reading a Rolling Stones Squeeze interview from back then where Glenn & Chris said they consciously think of Lennon & McCartney when they write their songs as inspiration to help them try and write good catchy songs like John & Paul did. With The Cars I remember reading Elliot Easton said he reworked Paul’s lead guitar riff from “‘I Will” to make the repeating riff in “‘My Best Friends Girl’ that he plays each time after Ric sings “she use to be mine”. I guess that whole song had a Beatlesque feel to it. Sorry for going off on a tangent, really great tutorial please keep them coming!

    Thanks for doing a great lesson on probably the most Underrated solo ever. I learnt this from TH-cam videos (2), maybe 10 years ago, and now with your detail it has added a few small corrections and now sounds very good. Good to see you layout the high speed section, how I thought it went, but other videos led me to a slightly simplistic speed run. Top job 👌

    Excellent video of one of my favourite songs and solos. I spent a couple of months getting that fast part down with the aid of a looper pedal. Interesting that the solo comes in on the second verse (usually it would be later in a song). There is an additional part at the end of the song that is interesting too - E - B - A - C# min - C# min repeated a few times and then E - B - A - E. Thanks again for the excellent tutorial - I’m going to try some of your fingering patterns to see if they work better (or easier!) than mine.

    • @MrFrampo56
      @MrFrampo56 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Some Fantastic Place is a magnificent solo. Apparently he’d had it for years ‘kicking about’ , used it in this song about his girlfriend who had died. The person who egged him on to reply to the ad in the shop window, for a guitarist. Thank God she did. Oddly enough, the lyrics were by Chris Difford ( as usual). She was a friend of the whole band from the start. Squeeze are MASSIVELY underrated. Second only to Lennon/ McCartney in my book. The lyrics, the music , Glenn’s skilfully worked out solos, his vocals. Absolute genius. I never saw Squeeze live but I’ve seen Tilbrook on his own twice. Fabulous. A Fantastic musician. Oh I could go on but best not. Third Rail is a great song from the Some Fantastic Place album. Paul Carrack again on that one. Oh. Shut up!

    I have joined your Patreon group ( on a pay as you feel basis - for now). I have to say it’s the bargain of the century! Your clear concise lessons of sometimes very complex songs are unsurpassable. I intended to direct message you with this unabashed lauding but couldn’t figure out how to :/
    Your skills are amazing. I’ve been playing on and off for 50 years and whilst You Tube has helped me , there is , paradoxically, too much information from too many ( well -intending) teachers. I intend to stick to just YOUR posts from now on. Such diversity - Link Wray ! Pavement ! Hank Marvin !
    Please don’t ever stop. Your lessons will last me til the end , and then some.
    A million thanks and I’ll up my Patreon contribution very soon.
    P.S. love the Tele. I have an ‘8502 ‘ American Ash model. Limited run back in ‘05 - ‘07 ish. It’s not as nice as yours but still sweet Very versatile. I’ll stop this eulogy now , before it becomes cringeworthy. Before?
    P.P.S. I live in England too so that’s a bonus. Your diction and friendly demeanour make you seem like a real friend. Signed Stan , your biggest fan. 😂
