Hi there. I used to have a lot of trouble with PS1 emulators and Duckstation was no exception. One thing I tried was to use DS with CD's which was unsuccessful. I just found this video and followed all your steps. Finally I can say that it's working like a champ and it's running smoothly. Thank you for putting this together. I must like this video

Not sure what to call you so I guess we'll just go with Casual Gamer for now lol, but I would just personally like to thank you for this VERY SIMPLE and EASY setup and instructions. I never would of thought to use Duck Station! I've heard of it but had no idea how good it would work. You wouldn't believe the amount of trouble I was having and how many emulators I tried just to emulate Tomb Raider lol. I was about to give up so thanks for that! You earned a subscriber for life!! Im hoping you also have a tutorial for how to emulate PS2 and XBOX 360......but I won't hold my breath on that one LOL. I look forward to seeing and learning more from your tutorials. Thanks again!
Duckstation does have a cover downloader tool to automatically add the game covers to the games in your library. It is under the “Tools” menu when you open it.

@@UrCasualGamer you’re welcome. Another thing I discovered as well is once the game cover is added, DuckStation generates a folder and automatically save the pictures in them. It will be a Duckstation folder in your Documents tab and you’ll find the saved covers there. The name of the folder will be called “covers” in all lowercase.

Duckstation has been incredible! I remember when it came seemingly out of nowhere a few years back. It's especially wonderful on android.

In the Enhancements tab, I recommend experimenting with PGXP (Precision Geometry Transform Pipeline). First check Geometry Correction, Culling Correction, Perspective Correct Textures and optionally Preserve Projection Precision. This should improve polygon and texture distortion. However, results may vary depending on the game.

bro you are at the top when it comes to trusted sources of info on emulation, i have a few others that i trust and will take in place should you not have a vid on what im looking for but for the most part you have all bases covered for us lol, I have been tinkering with emulators since around 1999 or 2000, but i stepped away for a long time from the PC side and was only able to emulate on my various androids over the years, just got my first PC in over 14 years a couple months back and seeing how far the emulation scene has come on this side of things is mindblowing, thanks for helping me get my setup up and running 😁💪💙
My bin files were all in folders in the BIOS. Didn't realize they should be outside. That fixed it.

It's awesome that someone in 2024 is making emulator guides that don't suck and straight the point. what I'm wondering is how does this compare to the epsxe 2.0.5 version.?
ePSXe, even with the latest version, is severely outdated since it hasn’t been updated since 2016 I believe. DuckStation is a lot more user friendly and has lots more features.

if you download the emulator off of vimms lair it comes with the bios

@suii325 I believe so. If not, BIOS are incredibly easy to find. The Emulation subreddit has them in a pinned post, I believe.
I did everything right but the duck station file didn’t pop on my desktop
I tried to use Duckstation but when I use start up any game. It moves the cursor on its own. I tried automapping the controller but Duckstation can not automap it but I can input the controls and the buttons work but it seems like the buttons are stuck. My controllers are fine because I can use them in other emulators and they have no issues with stuck controls
Did everything you say in the video enforcing there were a few options that it did not pop out for me and when I went to play the game the whole screen just stay black

QUESTION: Can anyone help me with my performance issue? When running a games (PAL) the frames are only half the amount than standard (50fps) and the game crashes on the loading screen.
The update is not installed. What could be the problem? It just downloads and the application closes without installation
this is a great tutorial, i do own duckstation on my PC since i will be playing Xenogears on it, i always wathc your videos for emulators in general.
The only problem really is it refuses to load real discs. How do you fix that? I mean PCXS2 loads real discs without issue.

So far this has been the best set up for a PS1 emulator so far. Tried PSX and it loved to crash on me. I had tried emulating in 2018 and it had bricked my computer. Thanks to your helpful videos I can finaly succesfuly emulate games.

Got to the step of putting the bios in the folder, but when I launched Duckstation it said no bios image was found. What am I missing?
When I first launched it, it didn't automatically direct to the folder even though it looked like it did. So I hit browse and made sure to manually choose the folder where the bios was located. It found it then
What we need is developers to develop plugins that utilize AI to remodel and upscale the fixed resolution sprites so that the fonts are also brought up to the same level as the 3d enhancements. On top of this I think a reshading retexturing and relighting upscaling AI plugin would be mean also which essentially could bring the graphics more closer to PS5 graphics still with the glorious nostaligia that all ps1 gamers love and revamping the ps1 ps2 ps3 games to a point where game developers make even more sales and gamers are over joyed with orgasmic gameplay!

Is it normal for Windows Defender SmartScreen to trigger when opening DuckStation? I'm assuming this is because it is listed as "Publisher - Unknown Publisher"?
