Today’s photo is of the December 3rd, 1969 press conference and announcement from head Coach Frank Howard that he was resigning.
Howard retired from coaching after 39 years on the Clemson coaching staff, 30 of which were as head coach.
Trivia Question
Rumor had it that Howard had already picked a successor. However, just a couple of days before he was to announce the new head coach, that coach changed his mind. Who was he?

Trivia Answer: Bill Peterson of FSU was the handpicked successor, but Peterson changed his mind and eventually went to Rice a year later. Howard had to continue the search and ended up with Hootie Ingram.
