This your best video ever!!! It took me awhile from watching your videos to realize you’re actually not just a goofy guy doing guitar vids, but you’re actually really smart underneath the persona. For me this vid diving right into the material and skipping over all the camp at the beginning was refreshing. Your personality still comes through forcefully and it does make your videos very accessible. Keep up the good work.
At age 79 I, like many, have arthritis in my hands. This is so helpful. I can play the chords but having the ability to restrict movement can really help. Thanks! Also, I too am an Elixir fan for both guitar and banjo.
I wish I had access to this back in 1999 when I was in highschool and had all the time in the world to watch and practice this... Kids don't know how good they have it now...
I was gunnuh say; Classical, rock, folkies, etc. all know this. (an)Instructor might display this & say this is where U wanna be. But Sean is very "comprehensive"! Touche S.D.@@AccursedSlug
Like having to go and spend loads of money on a tab book at a music shop just because you wanted to learn one song. P.s, I still support music shops as much as I can.
Wow! I was messing around many years ago when I was starting out and figured out almost all of these chord fingerings (except for the B one) and it sounded so great! I learned what some of them were, like the Cadd9, but you just put them all in context! Thank you! Thank You! THANK YOU! 😀
Thanks to you I have been playing on Elixir strings, I'm no string snob, but I really do love the sound and tone of them. I was gifted a guitar by a friend who really didn't care too much for string type and the ones I had on before were not very nice to play on at all, the Phospher Bronze strings I now use feel so nice to play on.
I absolutely love this stuff! @ 10:36 the "G-ness of the sound " , is really the Genius of Sean Daniel's way of expressing himself in his lessons. Also thank you Sean for @ 9:44 noting that the diminished sound is known for it's Flatted 5th. 🙂
So cool, I learned Friend of the Devil along time ago and used this walk down in the scale of the G but never really understood what I was doing and this video made it all make sense.
Thank you for your most excellent videos. What exactly are you press down for the F# Diminished chord, you added garble over that compared to the other chord explanations.
As well as being easy for beginners, these are actually better voicings than the more regular ones. You hear them in Country and Americana all the time. Good one.
Good vid sensi I think now for total grasp first I’d say learn the arpeggios in the scales. I notice I learned the top of the neck last as I always had trouble with the open strings and the shapes going off neck lol.
Don’t take this wrong 😂 You remind me of the car salesman that sold me my 2010 GLS HYNDIA ELANTRA DROVE OFF WITH UNDER COATING 2 gallons of headlight fluid And racing stripes that gave the car 30 more HP off the line . Your rap is fast 💨 and to the point 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
Years ago, I heard the "People's Key" was the key of C, because they're no sharps or flats. This is offered, in the words of a song popular when I was a kid, "For What It's Worth." ✌️😎🤘
Sean, I signed up for your beginner course. No. 1. I’m 80! 2. I’ve been playing trombone for 70 years. 3. Holding a trombone has warped my left hand fingers quite a bit. I’m in desperate need of the info on moving as little as possible to play chords as you demonstrate. But I’m a beginner, you are blasting through these hand positions a warp speed. I cannot decipher which fingers are doing what because I have no experience. I need fingering charts showing exactly what you are doing to move through these chord progressions. So I thought something this important would surely be in the basic course! I did a search in the lesson video section for the title of this video! Search returned a page of gibberish! In the lesson section there is no way to ask a question? If I can’t get a response from you here, I’m out of options, I’ll just ask for a refund. I’m old, but not dead…..yet! I’m still fighting to have fun before time stops! I thought your course could help make that happen. Help.
I was a big fan of Ernie Ball Earthwood Phosphor Bronze Alloy Light until last year I decided to try something different. I bought a set of Elixir Acoustic 80/20 Bronze with NANOWEB. I love the nanoweb, the string brightness last for _months_ Now I'm using Elixir Acoustic Phosphor Bronze with NANOWEB, and I can't decide which one I like better.
I see you have the box for the Nanowebs... Is that what your currently playing with? Whats your feelings about the Polywebs? Im also an Elixir guy. I have them strung on all of my acoustics. My all maple Guild is finicky about which version I put on them. Not sure if I put the Nanos or the Poly on that guitar this last time. These are not cheap strings so I need to get it right when I order again for the Guild.
Hey I was using the elixir strings, and then buy accident I found another string that for a while felt and sounder better so I switched .But after a year or so I went back to Elixir. the other strings came with the guitar I purchased and I love the guitar but the Elixir strings sound better ,they don't last as long but the soung was more important to me.
Ah, but Grasshopper, old school G chord is played w/3, 4, 5 fingers, making transition to C and Am (and F,D,A) very fast and efficient. Tom Petty wrote 75% of his catalog on that theory. LOL Hi Sean, its been awhile. 8) Hope your doing well, are you still out in Ca.?? I stumbled onto Andrea's most recent video yesterday. Have you checked in with her? I don't recall her ever acting that strange!! She played part of a new tune, that was ok, but she seemed "way out there" with everything else! Hope things are good for you, and a happy NY!! 8) --gary
@@codyfrancis22 Cool! I'm 72, and that's how I learned 57 years ago. All the years playing and gigging I think I tried everything, and always went back to this for the most part. I was serious about Petty, that's how he played most of his songs. Have fun and good luck! 8) --gary
That’s all too complicated for someone who has just learned to play those 3 chords GC and D . We are baffled by your guitar speak of chord progressions and scales . Hey we are just learning one chord at a time and this video is not for beginners who dont understand guitar speak. Sorry but way too complicated for someone like me.❤️
Honestly I need to walk away because as good as the information is the way your talking at full speed sounds like rambling unfortunately it’s driving me nuts
Hahaha you guys actually think music theory is real? "G#sus9aug17upended3jesus5 is the fourth chord in the inverted key of K# macedonian, so if you just play it on top of a B7flatsplurge you just turn the whole thing into a Ckappa3, it's ez get outta here
I’ve been playing in bands for decades always looking the new scale or riff from anyplace , but after a few minutes into the piece I’m completely lost . Sean is obviously a high functioning player with a real depth of theory , however the delivery is confused and borders on rambling
Very easy lesson to comprehend. It’s basically the busker chords. I teach most of these to my students right away. The ability to keep your ring and pinkie finger grounded helps beginners immensely. They dont get lost so fast. It doesn’t get much easier than this. For the person that plays in a band and said he got lost, wow. Not sure what kind of music you play but this is basic. He even explained how the chords are created from the scale. Not much theory required to understand this. And he showed you that once you get this key mastered which is simple you can do this in any key with a capo.
You should also just keep your job at Buddy's carpet outlet and play your guitar when you get out of bed ...enjoy YOURSELF! and leave the poor people of the internet alone

The walk down from G to F# to Em sounds like Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen. I've been using Elixir strings for many years, I like the coated ones.

Excellent lesson. Really tight and yet flexible. A real foundation to use as is or to build on. With the capo it opens up all keys. Loved it!
Great lesson, Sean! And I only use Elixir strings on my Taylor guitars!
Thanks for your great video's!!

Nice one, many thanks!! :)
Hey Sean, been a long time. How ya doing in Ca ?
Maybe im stupid but how is a capo on the second fret the key of A ? Is it because the G note is now A ?
"how is a capo on the second fret the key of A?"
Because everything moves up two half steps. So what was D is now E, B is now C# and so on.
This is a great one!! Got some Elixir strings yesterday at my local guitar shop!
Me too I got 2 box sets of strings but I am too lazy to put them on but of course mine are Daddarios 😅
I love the D18.
I love the Alvarez md60bg for a fifth of the price 😃
It's perfect.
That was a great lesson
Super useful.

Strum chords for a long time, then start listening to Mississippi Queen, and figure that out. This is way too complicated. The Internet. Jesus Christ.
I am just totally dumb, but how does capo 2 make these shapes key of A😮?
You were in G with the open chords. You put the capo 2 semitones up that puts you in A.
Thanks for the insight!!
I can't play guitar because I'm not as good-looking or talented as SyndieJo, who has a new version of Running Up That Hill, on TH-cam....
Hounds of Love - great album
I think you stole all of Paul Westerbeg's chords 😂 Cool lesson! Thanks!
The key of G.
G for Jesus.
D 18 or 000 18?
D18 :)
I need help please.

Tommy Emmanuel never took a lesson in his life and can’t read Music to this day!!!
You talked about playing songs?
Well, he said maybe...
Will cut Sean some slack on this title. You can't play songs if you can't move smoothly between chords. ;)
I thought you said "D" was the people's key
Nope, he's always said that G was the "people's key."
yup! I'll fight this fight to the grave!
Good stuff. Talk just a little slower. Just a pinch. It’s not a race. Peace man
