  • It could have been a nice and flat ride along the Adriatic coast.
Jockel had prepared a track to San Marino - with lots of climbing.
Actually he did not intend to go at first.
But when I asked him if he would join me, we went together.
A very nice day with lots of climbing and a sightseeing of city and castle.

Klasse.

Is this a solar panel above your M9?

Yes it’s a solar panel on my Alpha 9 (the larger predecessor of the M9). It made me independent of external charging for navigation, lights, phone and camera on most of the tour. But only because it is sunny and not many trees in this part of Italy.

@@ChristianWSG works on the M9? Where can I get it? Or self made?

@@Addarraj You mean the solar panel? That should also fit on a M9 since it's about the same length. Just some cheap china 18 V panel rated with 15 or even 20 W - but I have never gotten much more than 10 W out of it...

The only thing I made is the wiring + monitoring + charging setup for my battery. This was a bit more complex and required some experimenting...

Could you share information about your solar setup? What parts do you have and how do they perform?

The panel was a cheap china one advertised as 20 W but I have never seen much more than 12 W in perfect noon conditions. I ripped off the USB outlet and just soldered on wires to have it as flat as possible on the flat bonnet of the Alpha 9. Its 18 V were fed into a tiny MPPT converter with manual power point adjustment and battery charging capabilities (max current / cutoff voltage). The output was looped through a small OLED meter showing voltage, current, power and energy fed into either one of my onboard batteries (I could choose wich of them to charge).
Those are Lupine 2S/2P 7.2 V lithium ion batteries.
When they were half full in the morning I got them tipped up to the brim during the sunny days and could load my smartphone, wahoo and INST360 X2 camera as well.
I did not need any external charging. The meter showed about 40-50 Wh for the first days.
But I got annoyed with the setup because it was ugly, hacked together and people kept asking and assuming if it was a solar powered electric car. I always explained "no - solo pedali" - one of the few things I could say in Italian.
But with better cells, preferably replacing the service hatch in the front, I could try to improve the setup.
