The CANARY ISLANDS are a chain of oceanic #volcanoes located on the north west #African coast. They enjoy a very mild weather all year round (the locals know it as the eternal spring) and is incredibly #rich on natural resources, endless agricultural vegetation, such as plantains which are very important for the economy of this island, also #sugar, #cheese, #honey, #wine, #rum and #cattle are pretty big too..
The Canary Islands are influenced by the local inhabitants, the #Guanches who were there before everyone else arrived. The Guanches used to worship dogs, mummified them and treated dogs generally as holy animals just like the ancient Egyptian cult of the dog-headed god, "Anubis" are closely connected but there is no explanation given as to which one was first.
Even though this is an old culture, #Romans, #Pirates, #Ottomans, #French, #Portuguese and #Moroccans had tried to conquer these islands for centuries because of his #wealthy climate.. But the Castillians imposed a new economic model, based on single-crop cultivation: first sugarcane; then wine, an important item of trade with England.
#Spain, #SouthAmerica and #WestAfrican are the main #influences on this type of #cuisine. Their cuisine wasn’t particularly what impressed me the most but their locally sourced amount of products really inspired me. Their own #beers, their own #honey, their #cheese, #bananas and their volcanic soil where they harvest fantastic grapes to makes unique and high quality #wines, (red, white and rose) and I haven’t mention the rum yet.. Oh boy that rum and they got many! Ps; For rum lovers, I thought #Habana was the place, but I might be wrong…
Some Canarian dishes come from Spanish cooking, but the Canarian specialities have their own touch of originality. One of the best-known and traditional dishes #PapasArrugadas (wrinkled potatoes), made of potatoes boiled in salted water, served with two delicious “mojos” (sauces): the #mojopicón (spicy sauce) and the #mojoverde (green sauce).
If you are a #fish lover you will be delighted in the #CanaryIslands. Among the most typical regional recipes are Caldereta and Sancocho Canario, salted fish in a “mojo” sauce. You will find a wide variety of international recipes of fish and seafood, too.
Among vegetarian dishes Potaje Canario, (the one I’m trying on the video) a hot pot of chickpeas, is perhaps the best known. And The most typical dessert is #bienmesabe, a mixture of honey, almond cream, eggs and rum. I was nice but thought it was too heavy or might to have gone to the wrong place! HA!
The Islands can almost guarantee the perfect level of heat, little rain and plenty of #sun. However, this does not apply to the whole of the island. The island is mountainous, sits in the cooling Canary Current of the North Atlantic Ocean, in the path of the northeast trade winds, and is very close to the west coast of Africa; these factors give rise to an exceptional level of regional climatic variation - so much so that you can generally choose what type of weather you would like to experience on any day. You can choose from swimming on the sea or just go hiking on a sleeping volcano with loads and loads of fog, careful don’t get lost, because the internet connection isn’t great. But all in all it's a fantastic place to visit during winter, it compliments the great #locallysourced #products with the #wellbeing and #lifestyle here .. So why just don’t bring your camping tent and spend the rest of your live here!?

That was painful to watch, here is how you do it:
You grab the tuno from the bottom (where it has no spikes) and twist it to remove it from the tunera.
Then you use one of those big yellow spikes to cut and peel the tuno.
They are delicious and there's no need to suffer in the process.
