    All good points, many I have adopted. Ultimately, the thing that made the greatest difference for me was CONDITIONING. My first 1 or 2 years of long distance hikes were agonizing and torturous during descents. It took me about 3 years to condition my knees to extended descents.

    Went to kuari pass with IndiaHikes. Fortunately all these tips were given by our trek leader, Yash Choudhary. Descent was ez pz. :)

      Second that I had my first long hike a couple months ago and because I didn't cut my toenails the top of my boots were slamming against my toenails on the way down ended up turning completely black. Tie your boots tight and cut your toenails

    Probably not wearing socks might help for toes hitting inside of shoes during descend..i tried it once for Sahyadri trek.. Seemed to help.. Because wet socks keep the feet always wet

    For me, point number 1 is the hardest. I have been stiff since childhood. Any tips for me to loosen up?

    • @swathichatrapathy1058
      @swathichatrapathy1058 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hi Jennifer, I guess your only way out is to consciously make your knees loose while climbing downhill. If you do this for an hour or so, you'll automatically keep your knees loose after that. Another thing to do is take a trekking pole. use two if needed. These will give you that extra confidence to let your knees loose.

    • @JenKumar

      Hmm.. sounds easy in principle! :) Years of behavior and thoughts need to be broken.

    Just curious.. can you give link to any source that says using trekking pole reduces energy consumption by 40%. I find it easier and less tiring when hiking without it

    • @julians.2597
      @julians.2597 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, because the number is relatively made up, however, she is completely right. When using them correctly, they reduce the strain on your body dramatically. My guess is, that you don't have good technique with poles, so that's why you don't find them useful.
